Chapter 16: There Are Many Good People in the World
Originally, Lin Feng’s team had only seven members. With You You joining, they became eight. But after meeting Yin Fan’s group and adding Xun Rong along with his servant, their numbers swelled to nearly thirty. The team felt increasingly robust.
You You didn’t object to Lin Feng’s decision—he was the captain, after all. Seeing Xun Rong’s frail state, coughing so weakly he seemed moments from collapse, abandoning him was unthinkable. When traveling, lending help where needed felt natural to her.
Since everyone walked, Xun Rong’s servant guided the horse-drawn carriage to match the group’s pace. By coincidence, the carriage’s right window faced You You’s direction, giving her a clear view inside whenever she turned.
Xun Rong offered a gentle smile. “Might I ask the noble lady’s name?”
“Me?” You You glanced over. “I’m You You. Hi!”
He paused, seemingly surprised by her casual reply, his striking features softening further. “The surname You is uncommon. Are you from Shangyang City?”
“Nope, I’m from Liuyang,” she blurted.
“Liuyang? Where’s that?” He looked puzzled.
“Uh…” She backtracked. “Just… a tiny place you’ve never heard of.”
“I see. Though unfamiliar,” he said politely, “your refined manner suggests Liuyang must be a remarkable land.”
Expecting modesty, he was startled when You You nodded firmly. “Spot on! Good eye!” Her hometown had produced legends, after all.
“…” His polite small talk crashed.
Xun Rong’s smile twitched. Before he could recover, Yin Fan abruptly turned, blocking the carriage window, and thrust a water pouch at You You. “Thirsty? Have a drink!”
“Thanks!” She gulped eagerly.
“No need for thanks!” Yin Fan grinned, then shot Xun Rong a glare. Newcomers shouldn’t hog her attention. “Want some fruit? Found it fresh in the forest!”
“Nah.” She grimaced. Wild fruits here tasted awful.
Yin Fan deflated, but a smooth voice interrupted. “Perhaps pastries instead?” Xun Rong held out an ornate box. “From Shangyang’s famed Qifangzhai—only ten made daily. They’ll spoil soon, and I can’t eat much. Would you help by taking them?”
He opened the lid, revealing flower-shaped delicacies that put Yin Fan’s sad fruit to shame.
“Thanks!” You You bit into one. “Wow, these rock!”
Xun Rong’s eyes curved. “Young Master Yin, try one? They’re legendarily fit for noble ladies.”
“…” Yin Fan’s eye twitched. Was that a dig?
“Want some?” You You offered.
“…No.” His mood darkened.
She shrugged and shared with teammates.
Xun Rong watched her leave, then turned to Yin Fan with a sly smirk. “Heh.”
“…” That smirk! This pretty boy was mocking him!
Yin Fan fumed silently as You You returned the empty box.
“Call me Xun Rong,” he said. “I’ll take you to Qifangzhai in Shangyang for more.”
“Deal!” The pastries rivaled her world’s best.
Xun Rong gestured at the endless meadow. “The journey’s long, and walking tires you. Why not share my carriage?”
Yin Fan’s face darkened. Shameless!
But You You brightened. “Really? You’d lend it?”
“Of course.” He scooted aside. “Plenty of room.”
“You’re the best!” She patted his arm, then yelled, “Deng Sheng! Wang Xiao! Li Tian! Injured folks—get in here!”
She hauled five “wounded” teammates into the carriage.
“Thanks, Xun Rong! Good people still exist!”
Xun Rong: “…” This wasn’t the plan.
Yin Fan: “…” So he’s… actually decent?
Teammates: “…” Our ankles are fine!
Another day of wholesome teamwork!
