Chapter 126: Height Never Changes
The more Little Flame was pulled out, the weaker it became, even taking on a faint greenish tinge of grievance. It resembled a chastised animal shrinking into a tiny ball.
You You found this unexpectedly amusing, her anger dissipating. She sighed, "Alright, just don’t wander off. Stay close, understand?" Feng Rong’s condition had stabilized enough that Little Flame should be safe here.
Little Flame brightened at once, resuming its original size and circling her cheerfully.
After lecturing the flame a while longer, You You finally surveyed their surroundings. They stood in a vast cave system with indistinguishable directions. A strange animal-like odor wafted from ahead, suggesting a beast’s den.
Prioritizing safety, You You hurried toward the fainter-smelling path. Little Flame raced ahead, illuminating their way while spitting small flames to sweep the ground clean.
They hadn’t walked five minutes when a sudden rumble shook the ground. An ear-splitting shriek echoed through the cavern, its sonic vibrations dislodging rocks. "Quick, Little Flame! Let’s go!" You You shouted.
The flame accelerated, abandoning its tidy flames to erupt into a blazing firewall that scorched their escape path clear. You You sprinted toward the growing light ahead, bursting from the cave exit only to face the roaring monster itself.
You You stared. "…"
Since when did monsters wait outside their own caves? Had they developed dramatic flair?
"It’s you!" A female voice cried from the right. The monster’s companion turned out to be a petite sword-wielding girl by a cracked defensive formation. Bloodstained and battered, her features seemed vaguely familiar.
Before recognition struck, the enraged eighth-grade monster lunged at You You. "Run!" the girl shouted, raising her sword too late to intervene.
The beast’s putrid maw yawned before You You. Reacting instinctively, she unleashed a spell. White light engulfed the monster, stripping away layers with a rustling tear.
When the glow faded, a hairless creature stood revealed – every strand plucked clean, wrinkled hide exposed. Its diminished form trembled pathetically before fleeing into the woods with mournful howls.
You You: "…"
Girl: "…"
Monster: "…"
A cold breeze ruffled the silence.
"…You." The rescued girl finally spoke. "Your spellcasting… is remarkable."
You You grimaced internally. She’d merely used the Dust Cleaning Technique on a filthy beast! Since when did it depilate?
"That technique… is unusual." The girl eyed her strangely. "No wonder your guardian beast lacked fur. Did you subdue it this way?"
"Wen Ze’s coat grew back!" You You protested automatically before pausing. "Wait – how do you know about him?"
"I saw you walking him years ago." The girl’s eyes widened at You You’s blank look. "You’ve forgotten me?!"
"Er…"
The girl flushed, stamping her foot. "You! You—"
That stomp sparked memory. "Wu Yue?"
"Hmph!" The girl’s anger lessened. "At least you recall something."
"You’ve grown!" You You marveled. The waist-high child from Cheng Tian Pavilion now reached her shoulders. "I barely recognized you."
"Twenty years changes people," Wu Yue muttered, then hesitated. "Got any Recovery Pills? I’ll repay you."
You You produced a crimson pill. "This Blood-Restoration Pill works better for injuries."
Wu Yue swallowed it without hesitation, wounds visibly healing. "Thanks," she mumbled, avoiding eye contact.
"Take another if needed."
"Unnecessary." Wu Yue lifted her chin. "I’m a Foundation Building cultivator. Minor injuries mean nothing."
"Impressive." You You resisted patting the shorter woman’s head.
"What’s your Cultivation level now?" Wu Yue demanded, then waved dismissively. "Never mind – you’ve always surpassed me… while staying this beautiful." Her gaze lingered hungrily on You You’s face.
You You sighed. Still the same appearance-obsessed kid.
