Chapter 10: Archrival Comes to the Rescue
“A mere Tier Four River Beast reduced you to this pitiful state?” The man laughed mockingly, radiating smugness. “Just quit and become farmers! How dare you call yourselves the border city’s best? Pathetic!”
“Yin Fan!” Lin Feng recognized him instantly, brushing off the insults as he shouted, “Don’t get careless! A Tier Four monster isn’t easy to handle!”
“Hah! For your trash team, maybe. We’re different!” Yin Fan sneered, relishing the chance to humiliate Lin Feng. “Watch closely and learn who the real number one is!” He waved at his teammates. “Activate the formation!”
The men leaped from the trees, encircling the River Beast. Each thrust a staff-like magical tool into the ground. Yin Fan slapped a yellow talisman onto the ground, triggering a burst of light. The staves emitted glowing threads that wove into a Light Cage, trapping the beast.
Lin Feng gaped. “You have a monster-ensnaring formation?!”
“We’re the border city’s true top team,” Yin Fan bragged, shooting him a triumphant look. “Unlike you, we come prepared. Now step back and witness real hunters at work!” He channeled inner energy into the formation.
The River Beast thrashed, coating itself in icy spikes that shattered harmlessly against the Light Cage. Yin Fan poured more energy into the formation, but when the beast began ramming the cage, the structure warped. Yin Fan paled as backlash surged through him, his teammates straining visibly.
“This formation only works on Tier Three monsters!” Lin Feng warned. “Without spiritual energy, inner energy alone won’t hold it! Use spirit stones!”
“Spirit stones?!” Yin Fan spat, veins bulging. “If we had those, would we be stuck in this dump?”
Realizing the danger, Lin Feng rushed forward. “I’ll help stabilize it!”
“Don’t expect a share of the spoils!” Yin Fan snapped, but didn’t refuse the aid. Soon members from both teams joined in—except You You, who stood frozen.
Inner energy? What’s that?

Yin Fan’s face darkened as rivals became allies. “Useless! You call that inner energy?” He barked orders. “Shorty, move right! Mud-stain, left flank! Lin Feng, your shrinking team proves you’re third-rate!”
Lin Feng stayed silent, focused on the cage.
Spotting an injured man limping forward, Yin Fan roared, “Cripple! You’ll ruin the formation! Get him out!”
You You darted over. “I’ll help!”
“Finally, someone competent!” Yin Fan turned—and froze. “Y-You…k-k-k…khjqx?!”
You You blinked. “Gesundheit?”
