Chapter 80: Meow Brand Agent

In a factory located in the Southern District of the outer city, workers were lined up for disinfection and dust removal.

Electrostatic dust removal equipment efficiently removed skin flakes and dust from their bodies, followed by a fine mist of alcohol sprayed onto each worker’s uniform.

Nutritional paste, the staple food sustaining over half of Hope City’s population, is produced under stringent safety standards.

Although many of the workers are those who have diverged from the educational pathways in Hope City, their role is crucial for the city’s functioning.

At one o’clock in the afternoon, after a one-hour lunch break, the factory workers resumed their duties for the afternoon shift.

They entered the factory and adeptly positioned themselves beside various machines.

The transition was seamless, with the production line for nutritional paste continuing without interruption as the shift changed.

Hope City’s nutritional paste comes in two varieties: the first is a pure insect-based nutritional paste, primarily made from cockroaches, which were reviled in the Old Era.

These production facilities are typically situated near waste disposal sites, where cockroaches process edible waste before being utilized to produce the traditional nutritional paste.

Over a decade ago, as Hope City’s population grew, the demand for the traditional nutritional paste began to outstrip supply.

In response, the Department of Life Technology introduced their latest innovation—extraordinary beast nutritional paste.

Research conducted by the Department of Life Technology revealed that extraordinary beasts, even after losing their vital signs, retained some edible value.

The nutrients within these creatures were too valuable to waste.

Following successful pilot tests, a new production line was established and has been expanding ever since.

Notably, the research was spearheaded by Zhao Kai, who is now part of the Black Coffin, though he was not the Minister of the Department of Life Technology at the time.

On the factory roof, a colorful little cat surveyed its surroundings. Anyone paying close attention might notice an unusual intelligence in its demeanor, not typical of ordinary animals.

Fulan, the intelligent cat, easily overcame her natural inclination to nap during the day. Having infiltrated the area, her next challenge was to get a closer look at the production line.

Below, workers continued to queue and move into the factory. Watching the bustling crowd, Fulan suddenly had an idea.

A man, who didn’t seem like an ordinary worker, was holding a black briefcase, bulging with unknown contents.

He stood beside the queue, observing the workers as if inspecting his team.

The briefcase was placed against the wall next to him.

What a perfect opportunity!

Fulan’s eyes narrowed as she entered a combat mode, stealthily making her way towards the briefcase from the rooftop.

At that moment, both the briefcase’s owner and the personnel handling dust removal and disinfection were focused on the incoming workers.

Fulan circled around the roof and effortlessly positioned herself behind the man.

She glanced at the black briefcase and discreetly bit off a corner, holding it in her mouth.

Ten minutes later, the shift change was complete.

The man, seemingly pleased with the workers’ performance, picked up the briefcase from the wall and walked into the factory, heading towards his office as workers greeted him.

Fulan returned to the spot where the briefcase had been, chewed the piece of artificial leather until it was finely crushed, and swallowed it.

Then, her entire body underwent a transformation, gradually morphing into a deep brownish-black briefcase.

A faint Kitten’s Paw mark subtly appeared on the brass clasp of the briefcase.

The bulky faux briefcase was quickly discovered by the cleaning staff.

Without hesitation, he promptly found his supervisor to report the location where he had found the package.

Upon hearing it was by the outer wall, the man, familiar with the factory manager’s habits, immediately knew who the briefcase belonged to.

He grabbed it and gestured for the cleaner to continue with their work.

After pondering for a while, the man decided not to open the package to inspect its contents; instead, he made his way toward the manager’s office.

The owner might not yet realize their belongings were missing, presenting a perfect opportunity to curry favor!

With this thought, he quickened his pace.

Soon, he arrived at the door of the manager’s office and knocked.

“Wait a moment before coming in.”

The manager responded from within the office.

“…Come in quickly.”

That was what the man heard, so he pushed open the office door.

He saw the manager, his face filled with anger, standing beside the bookshelf.

He then noticed the bundles of information coins scattered across the floor.

Oh no…

Just as the man stood there, stunned at having stumbled upon a secret, the briefcase in his hands transformed into a cat, swiftly disappearing around the corner of the staircase.

“Didn’t I say to wait a moment?”

The manager’s angry voice echoed, and the man realized he had made a grave mistake. He hurriedly explained,

“Manager, I found your briefcase outside, right by…”

He reached into the office, but his hand was empty.

The empty right hand felt like a lump of yellow mud dropped into his pants, and he knew he was in deep trouble now.

In the awkward silence, the man slowly raised his empty right hand.

“Smack! Smack!”

After slapping himself twice, he silently closed the large door to the manager’s office.

“What an idiot.”

Watching his oblivious subordinate leave, the head of the new nutritional paste production factory resumed counting the money.

It wasn’t until he pulled out the last two bundles of cash that he noticed a small hole chewed into the corner of his briefcase.

The man frowned, and after putting the information coins away, he closed the Hidden Door.

He then sat down at his desk and wrote on a piece of white paper the sanitation focus for the factory next month:

“Regarding Pest Control.”

The production building for the nutritional paste had a high frame, with metal beams exposed in the simplest manner.

As a cat, Fulan hardly exerted any effort to climb to the highest point along the stacked items by the wall.

Then she leaped gracefully, landing lightly on the metal beam.

From the unseen heights, the cat began to survey everything inside the factory.

The production line roared with activity, and as the large refrigerators opened, the crushed and folded bodies of extraordinary beasts were revealed to the workers.

They skillfully picked up iron tongs to extract the limbs of the insect-like extraordinary beasts, placing them onto the production line.

The teleportation belt moved slowly, and the next group of workers swung hammers to smash the outer shell of the limbs.

The following workers dug out the colorful gel-like substances inside the limbs, ensuring there were no remnants of soldiers’ shrapnel before sending them to the nearby pipes.
