Chapter 76: The Divine Kitten Wants to Eat Its Fill
"Meow?"
The Divine Kitten, now with a new name, felt a bit surprised, but the experiences from divine enlightenment had granted it true thinking abilities.
Since the moment it received the bestow a blessing, it had officially shed its identity as a beast and become a truly intelligent being.
So soon, Fulan swallowed the next "meow" that was about to escape her lips and instead said, "Okay, divine being."
The kitten’s voice was very sweet, though it was unclear where she had learned it.
Lin Qingliu thought for a moment and decided that raising a catgirl didn’t quite fit the current vibe of Hope City, so he dismissed the idea.
Putting down the now-named Fulan, Lin Qingliu commanded her to demonstrate her abilities with an air of authority.
Fulan circled the room a few times and walked over to the corner trash can.
Lin Qingliu raised an eyebrow, sensing that the kitten still retained some of her primal instincts.
After all, for felines, having a natural attraction to containers was quite normal.
The trash can itself was brand new, typically used for show, and there wasn’t really any garbage inside it.
Even so, such a container had a strong allure for the kitten.
Fulan approached the trash can, her mouth slowly opening wide.
A row of spiral teeth faintly appeared from her jaws and throat; as her mouth opened and closed, one corner of the shiny stainless-steel trash can vanished into her mouth.
Then, Fulan’s body trembled slightly, as if slipping into an unclear chaotic state.
"Clunk."
A black trash can fell to the ground; aside from the different color, it looked almost identical to the original version with the missing corner.
Lin Qingliu walked over, picked up the Fulan-branded trash can, and inspected it closely.
As a divine being, he wouldn’t naturally transform into such a bizarre low-quality item, but it wasn’t a bad idea to understand the weakness of her ability beforehand.
He weighed it in his hands; it felt quite hefty, and under the indoor light, he could vaguely see a lightly printed Kitten’s Paw logo on the bottom.
It was rather unique.
Lin Qingliu gave his internal evaluation and then set the trash can down, commanding Fulan to transform back.
The chaotic color blocks appeared again, and as if the previous actions were being reversed, the colorful little cat reappeared on the floor.
Lin Qingliu nodded in satisfaction. Next, he and the kitten tried various objects and found that the application of her ability was actually quite broad.
The only issue was that Fulan was completely powerless when it came to solid steel pipes and the Examination Table.
The former was too thick for her to bite, while the latter presented a huge size difference; after several attempts to transform into chaotic color blocks, she ultimately gave up with a few disappointed meows.
Looking at the new living being in his home, Lin Qingliu felt much lighter in spirit.
Talking to a smart being, no, a smart kitten, was such a delightful experience. Objectively speaking, Lin Qingliu thought that Fulan’s intelligence level surpassed that of the dimwitted Xiao Huimao.
And Lin Qingliu’s few rules quickly imprinted themselves in the mind of the kitten who believed in him.
First and foremost, Fulan must not reveal Lin Qingliu’s true identity casually; when he spoke in his normal state (with no colorful halo appearing behind him), she only needed to treat him as a regular master.
Fulan naturally had no objections to this; for a cat, which inherently had little sense of hierarchy, it didn’t matter whether the caretaker was a god or a human.
In the eyes of others, she was just a bigger cat.
But for Fulan, who had gained the thinking ability, things were much simpler.
Fulan greatly enjoyed the feeling of holding a tremendous secret that only she knew, which made her very agreeable to Lin Qingliu’s rules.
As for daily communication, Lin Qingliu wasn’t a stickler for formality; he just needed Fulan to play along when he revealed his divine nature, without strict etiquette requirements in everyday situations.
Who would expect a cat to follow rules?
The second rule Lin Qingliu set for Fulan was to behave like a real cat and treat the area around the mental health clinic as her territory, patrolling it every day.
In truth, Lin Qingliu didn’t care too much about this; he just wanted to ensure that Fulan didn’t puff up like a sugar-free multigrain loaf or a big chicken leg, so he planned to give her something to do.
He had already thought of Fulan’s future tasks.
Once the kitten could advance to the Second Level, she could create illusions.
This would make Lin Qingliu’s identity as a Paster even more versatile.
As for what came after that, he had some basic ideas, but the situation was constantly changing, so thinking too far ahead didn’t seem practical.
After confirming her abilities and setting the rules, morning had arrived.
Lin Qingliu cleared away the fatigue of the entire night from his mind and took out the nutritional paste to share the first meal with Fulan in their new family.
Five minutes later, the not-so-agile Kitten’s Paw was trying to use a knife and fork while Fulan chewed and earnestly commented,
“Companion, delicious.”
“Pfft.”
Lin Qingliu almost sprayed the nutritional paste out of his mouth; he looked at Fulan in surprise and asked,
“What did you just say?”
The kitten tilted her head, showing a puzzled expression:
“I said, ‘The companion is really tasty.’”
Lin Qingliu picked up a piece of nutritional paste and raised his wrist:
“You mean this is the companion?”
Fulan nodded, giving up on the utensils, and leaned down to take a big bite.
Lin Qingliu completely lost his appetite.
He activated his knowledge path ability, trying to enhance his vision to analyze the nutritional paste.
But unfortunately, he wasn’t an expert in this area, so his analysis was unsuccessful.
The knowledge path ability was strongly correlated to the user’s knowledge reserves; some dim-witted individuals might get this ability, but at best, they could only make bland observations about things.
He looked at the nutritional paste and felt that life in Hope City was truly unbearable.
Previously, he had thought that the raw materials for these products came from some creatures whose proteins were six times that of beef.
But now it seemed that things weren’t that simple.
Come to think of it, perhaps because he hadn’t been on the front lines, Lin Qingliu hadn’t really considered how to process the bodies of extraordinary beasts.
Or perhaps he had thought about it, but he just classified it under processing methods similar to those in the movie "Pacific Rim" and never considered that these things could be turned into staple foods that went into his mouth after fine processing.
He looked at Fulan and asked,
“How do you know this is your companion?”
Fulan chewed a few times and said,
“I can smell its scent.”
“Whose? The companion’s?”
Fulan thought for a moment and shook her head:
“The gray-black spores.”
