Chapter 28: The Only Doctor
"Knock, knock, knock!"
"Stop knocking, stop knocking! I’ll be right there!"
Lin Qingliu sometimes thought that having overly sharp senses was not a good thing, especially when someone was banging on his front door in the rain.
He got up, turned on the lights, and shook off the sleep as he walked downstairs, putting on his signature white coat over his pajamas. When he reached the first floor and opened the door, he saw a silver-haired boy carrying an unconscious woman.
What is this kid doing here?
His instinct was to point at the sign that showed the clinic’s Business Hours, but then he suddenly remembered that after the Ji Yongxing incident, he had thrown that sign two hundred meters deep into the underground, never to be seen again.
With a helpless sigh, Lin Qingliu quickly checked his surroundings with his keen senses and welcomed the two inside.
As he shut the door behind them, he caught a strong smell of blood. Looking at the liquid that was mixed with rainwater dripping from the woman’s feet, he gestured for El to take her inside first.
After laying the unconscious Zhuang Mian on the bed in the examination room, El glanced at Lin Qingliu with a guilty look, while the taller Dr. Lin awaited an explanation with a serious expression.
"An hour ago at the Wang Hai intersection…"
"I don’t need to hear that."
Lin Qingliu’s face grew increasingly serious as he looked at the troubled boy and said, "How she got hurt is not my concern; I just don’t understand why you brought her to me."
He spread his hands, pulled over a wheeled stool, and sat down heavily, saying, "I’m a psychologist, not a surgeon."
El thought for a moment before explaining, "Father… Dr. Lin, there’s no one else I know who is a doctor and still alive besides you."
Lin Qingliu’s mouth twitched slightly. It had to be said that this kid had indeed done quite a lot of big things lately. He’d heard some whispers about the patients he treated, but he hadn’t expected that in the eastern part of the outer city, he was the only half-baked doctor left…
The patients would be moved to tears hearing this.
He turned to look at the woman who was deeply unconscious on the bed and asked, "Why did you save her?"
El’s tone became a bit earnest: "This public security captain may be a little inexperienced, but she’s a good person."
"And I’ve gotten a lot of intel from her before. If I let her be hunted down like this, I might never get the chance to repay her."
Lin Qingliu looked at the sincere boy, recalling the times this kid had cooked for him after keeping his promises. It seemed he was indeed a grateful child. If it weren’t for family troubles, he might have a bright future ahead…
"I’ll do my best, but don’t get your hopes up."
Lin Qingliu got up and took a first aid kit for treating wounds from the cabinet behind him. He pulled the white curtain of the examination room to shut El outside.
He really wasn’t very knowledgeable about surgery, but he decided to try using his three pathways and the rudimentary first aid knowledge he had from his previous life.
Standing before the Examination Table, Lin Qingliu began to devise a first-aid plan in his mind, first ruling out the Blood and Flesh pathway.
This was a very self-centered path; from its design’s inception, it was centered around one’s personal power for branching and advancement. A superpowered individual of the Blood and Flesh pathway had to reach at least the Fifth Level to gain the ability of Blood and Flesh Mastery to share self-healing and transformation abilities with others.
But he was nowhere near that level yet, but the remaining two pathways worked well together.
His eyes blinked, and a lightly glow descended over Lin Qingliu’s irises.
Museum Pathway, Analysis!
In Lin Qingliu’s eyes, all things began to slowly disassemble according to their assembled parts. Lines of structural analysis appeared in his mind as if his brain had entered an overloaded state. He felt like he was about to grow a new brain.
He quickly lowered his head to look at Zhuang Mian, who had a pale complexion. His eyes, as though possessing X-ray vision, easily traced the bullet holes to their origins, while the boundaries of her bones and muscles were also clearly displayed in his view.
His hands then became ethereal, exhibiting the properties of Dimensional Shift as they slowly reached into Zhuang Mian’s body, beginning to "retrieve" the bullets from inside her.
"Thud, thud…"
Accompanied by a series of crisp crash sounds, three bullet heads were successfully extracted and tossed into a white enamel basin. The last bullet had caused a penetrating wound, leaving two blood holes in her left abdomen before it had managed to escape.
Lin Qingliu skillfully applied the ability of Dimensional Shift, performing a rudimentary suture on Zhuang Mian’s wounds without enlarging the lacerations.
However, this alone was not enough. Zhuang Mian had already lost too much blood; even with effective treatment to stop the bleeding, it seemed difficult to ensure her survival.
But there was not without a method. Lin Qingliu had recently observed that regardless of which believer was awakened, their body’s metabolism accelerated significantly during the process, as if their bodies needed extra energy to create a grand dream.
And in that process, similar to the evident bugs in many old animated cartoons where the protagonist became invincible when transforming, he discovered they would enter a high-energy state that repaired some wounds and left them looking healthier when they awoke…
This woman, Lin Qingliu remembered meeting over a month ago. She had come with two subordinates to ask him whether he had witnessed a certain incident one night.
He remembered her clearly not because she was particularly beautiful but because, as the true culprit of that incident, he had a very vivid memory of this encounter.
Considering her professional attitude at that time along with El’s description, he could basically confirm that this Zhuang Mian was a competent public security captain.
Although she lacked certain abilities, what did that matter? Abilities could be cultivated later, and it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing for her not to be overly intelligent. If every believer were as hard to deceive as Ji Yongxing, Lin Qingliu would have to think about how to craft convincing speech at night…
Reflecting on this, Lin Qingliu found himself increasingly fond of the woman on the Examination Table. Yet if Zhuang Mian were to witness this scene, she would surely see no trace of pity in this man’s eyes, only the delight of a weary farmer looking at high-quality leeks.
"Your luck is really something."
As Lin Qingliu softly spoke, he inserted the ethereal golden USB drive into Zhuang Mian’s neck, "I hope you awaken a pathway that suits you."
