Chapter 265: Cyber Father and Son
“Son? What son?”
Ji Yongxing instinctively retorted, wondering where a Young Man not yet eighteen could have a son.
As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized who Lin Qingliu was referring to—
It had been some time since he last saw his creation… that artificial intelligence robot named [Skydome] had been delivered to Lin Qingliu for management after the last surgery.
Clearly, Dr. Lin also didn’t know how to handle this seemingly useful, yet improbably so, entity, leaving it to gather dust in a corner.
Leading Ji Yongxing through a long corridor, Lin Qingliu returned to the space beneath his house.
After a period of expansion, the area had taken shape, though it still appeared somewhat empty due to the lack of related equipment.
Lin Qingliu stopped in front of a peculiar room. Unlike the normal doors of other rooms, this one was unusually heavy, allowing no light to penetrate.
“9527! Your father’s here to visit!”
Lin Qingliu’s tone was serious yet tinged with amusement, as if he were indeed a warden leading a family member for a prison visit.
Ji Yongxing felt a wave of darkness wash over him, as if he had joined not a savior organization but a comical troupe roaming the inner city.
A sudden flash of green light pierced the pitch-black darkness.
“Initializing…
“Standby mode disabled…
“Energy-saving mode off…”
After a brief, incoherent babble, the suitcase lid automatically opened, revealing a pixelated expression on the screen.
The pixelated face turned toward the door. Lin Qingliu pushed it open and stepped aside, allowing Ji Yongxing to take the center position.
Upon seeing the familiar figure at the entrance, the pixelated face instantly welled up with tears, droplets of glowing green rolling down and disappearing at the bottom of the screen.
“Dad! Dad!”
The speaker emitted a voice mixed with a crying tone and crackling sound:
“I’m wronged! I’ve been bullied so badly!”
Ji Yongxing slapped his forehead, letting his hand slowly slide down as his expression turned to one of exasperation.
“I told you to stop causing trouble, and now that you’ve stirred up a mess, do you understand your mistake?”
Skydome: … Dad, are you serious?
Lin Qingliu: … Brother, you really get into character quickly!
Ji Yongxing stepped further into the room, his expression genuine as he approached [Skydome] (in front of the cameras), leaning down to look directly into the lens he had personally replaced:
“Is it fun?”
The pixelated face scrunched up, huddling in the corner of the screen like a small animal showing its belly in hopes of forgiveness:
“Woof.”
“Bang!”
Ji Yongxing slammed the suitcase lid shut, beginning to ponder what this guy had learned from Lin Qingliu…
“Stay put.”
With that, he turned and left the room, knowing that the researcher, Ji Yongxing, wanted to speak to Lin Qingliu.
“Buzz~”
A communicator in Lin Qingliu’s hand vibrated. He lifted it to check, and the screen displayed:
“Failed, failed, failed…”
Don’t mess around in inappropriate places…
Lin Qingliu twitched his mouth and quickly replied:
“I told you playing the victim doesn’t work, but you didn’t believe me. I’m off to work now.”
The two settled down in the basement, and Ji Yongxing, having just emerged from a bewildering stage play, asked:
“Did you need me for something?”
“Yes, there is something.”
Lin Qingliu walked to the corner of the room and pulled down a thick canvas, revealing a complete set of power armor.
The armor had a dull silver hue, its surface covered in patchy scratches, as if it had been tossed into a Crusher, tumbled around, and then retrieved.
In stark contrast was the bright, pristine helmet, which looked almost new except for a missing corner, standing out against the battle-worn armor.
Ji Yongxing was no stranger to this armor; 60% of it came from his original design, while the rest was derived from discarded projects at the research institutes.
He also knew exactly where it had come from; the superpowered individual Wang Xiao had left it outside the city while escaping trouble, and now it had somehow ended up here…
There was no doubt about its authenticity—whether in material, craftsmanship, or the microscopic details revealed after enhancing his vision through the knowledge path, everything confirmed it was the very armor he had assembled not long ago.
“That’s the first thing.”
Lin Qingliu wore a look of pride:
“You’ve probably met Wang Xiao and know where this came from. Our team managed to retrieve it.
“Now, for repairs and modifications, I’ll need your help. It’ll be useful in the future.
“Of course, following our organization’s rules, I won’t take your work for free. As for the outside city, we [Followers] have recently gathered some new intel, which I’ll share with you right away.”
Ji Yongxing didn’t doubt the information Lin Qingliu provided. After a moment of thought, he asked:
“Can I report the intel you’ve given me?”
“Sure, as long as you don’t mention the source. Or you could just say you dreamed it?”
“…I’ll think of a good reason.”
Ji Yongxing didn’t respond to Lin Qingliu’s joke and instead began considering how to report the information obtained from the [Followers] in the least suspicious way.
Otherwise, anonymous reporting might be his only option…
The young researcher felt the weight of responsibility at such a young age—was it right for someone like him to resort to anonymous reporting?
Setting that thought aside, he asked again:
“Repairs shouldn’t be a problem, but the equipment…”
He spread his hands, indicating that aside from a small machine tool, there was nothing here, making it difficult for him to work.
Even a skilled craftsman can’t cook without rice, and Ji Yongxing was in a situation where he didn’t even have a pot, making it nearly impossible to whip up a “meal.”
“Hmm, don’t worry about that. Today is mainly about syncing information and discussing upcoming tasks. As for the equipment and materials you need… make a list.”
Ji Yongxing filled a sheet of paper with the minimum instruments and materials he required.
Lin Qingliu glanced at it and said:
“Not too bad; the conditions aren’t too demanding. We can get those.”
Ji Yongxing was astonished:
“You can actually obtain all this?”
“Of course!”
Lin Qingliu replied confidently. After another look, he added, giving Ji Yongxing another boost of confidence:
“And some of it is already on the way.”
—
“Achoo!”
On the edge of Hope City, over ten kilometers away, two men, one tall and one short, were struggling to carry a heavy safe.
The sudden sneeze caused the shorter man to lose his grip, and the side he was holding slackened immediately.
The impact of the safe hitting the ground made the taller man let go as well, and the edge of the safe came crashing down onto his foot.
“Ugh!!!!!!!”
The man stifled his pain, refusing to cry out, letting only muffled groans escape through his nose.
