Chapter 151: Rigor is a Virtue

Among the believers, Lin Qingliu considered Ji Yongxing to be the most knowledgeable about the inner city and the most logical thinker, which was why he sought Ji Yongxing’s advice on this matter.

Ji Yongxing did not disappoint. After confirming a few basic requirements, he swiftly took action.

Or rather, [Skydome] swiftly took action.

For tasks involving screening, computers far outperformed humans in efficiency. Ji Yongxing’s role was simply to use his authority to gather intelligence, while the integration was entirely handled by [Skydome].

This process took approximately two days, during which Lin Qingliu packed all his belongings that were worth taking.

Two days later, in the afternoon, Ji Yongxing completed the research tasks in record time and promptly requested leave.

Upon learning that Ji Yongxing was going to visit a psychologist, Deputy Director Zhou Zhuo expressed clear concern.

He scrutinized Ji Yongxing’s face, looking from side to side, but saw no obvious signs of social withdrawal.

Ji Yongxing offered little explanation, merely stating that he hadn’t been sleeping well lately (mostly due to being busy with side projects) and planned to consult a relatively reliable doctor.

After seeing Ji Yongxing off, Zhou Zhuo recalled the doctor who, according to the records, didn’t seem very reliable.

He sifted through a pile of paper documents and found the reports of the two retired soldiers working at the research institute. Apart from noting that they ate well, there was nothing unusual.

Could he be going for free food and drinks?

Zhou Zhuo quickly dismissed this thought. Ji Yongxing’s parents were senior researchers at the institute, albeit in different departments from their son.

While his family wasn’t extremely wealthy, they were among the few in Hope City who didn’t worry about food.

Although it was wrong to harbor malicious thoughts about his students, as a researcher, Zhou Zhuo naturally maintained a skeptical attitude toward everything.

He remembered the name written in the file and went to the database shared by the three major organizations, entering “Lin Qingliu” in the search box.

This database functioned as an intranet for the three major organizations, established over a decade ago by the research institute to handle personnel transfers and borrowing issues.

Currently, this massive database was hidden underground in the main building of the research institute.

Zhou Zhuo pressed enter, and the cursor on the screen spun briefly before responding a few seconds later.

A large photo and lines of information began to appear on the display screen.

This was somewhat unexpected for Zhou Zhuo but didn’t surprise him too much.

He looked carefully and was startled to find that this young doctor, just twenty-one years old, was actually a part of the army.

[Captain of the external psychological treatment team at the General Staff Headquarters]

Though his resume wasn’t lengthy, it was particularly clear; Zhou Zhuo could immediately trace Lin Qingliu’s history from elementary school to the recently completed task.

This young man… truly has some talent.

Zhou Zhuo muttered to himself, unconsciously nodding his head.

Unfortunately… his talents aren’t in research; otherwise, he might truly be a good candidate.

After lamenting the young man’s promising abilities, Zhou Zhuo habitually entertained the thought of recruiting him.

As an older researcher, he had felt his thinking gradually dulling over the past few years.

Being able to continue in his current position relied entirely on his deep knowledge and accumulated experience, along with his memory, which rivaled a database.

However, as an ordinary person without superpowers, this was the limit of what Zhou Zhuo could achieve. Whenever he thought about this, he would remember that member of the first team, Infinite Scroll.

If only I possessed that nearly boundless ability to remember everything, I could contribute more to humanity’s counterattack…

With a touch of melancholy and reassurance for his students, Zhou Zhuo returned to his post.

Ji Yongxing was a rare talent, and Zhou Zhuo worried about him mingling with peculiar individuals, much like a concerned parent fretting over their child playing with bad influences.

Reflecting on this, Zhou Zhuo suddenly realized that such matters might not be his concern…

Meanwhile, in a certain annex building of the research institutes, two researchers from different organizations sneezed simultaneously.

The middle-aged man and woman, both bearing a slight resemblance to Ji Yongxing, rubbed their noses in unison from their separate locations and murmured,

"Yongxing must be thinking of me…"

—

In the eastern part of the outer city, Ji Yongxing walked down familiar streets.

Guided by memory, he found the mental health clinic that had already hung a "Closed" sign.

The place looked almost unchanged since his first visit; however, upon opening the door, he was greeted by numerous woven bags, already packed and ready.

Navigating through the gaps between the bags, Ji Yongxing found Lin Qingliu sitting on the last unwrapped folding chair at the far end of the first floor.

"One-thirty, right on time," Lin Qingliu remarked.

He nodded in acknowledgment and pulled out another folding chair from behind him, placing it opposite.

Between them, a woven bag filled with miscellaneous items served as a makeshift coffee table.

Ji Yongxing retrieved a stack of white papers from his bag. After [Skydome]’s two days and nights of relentless work, it had compiled all the available locations.

Before arriving, Ji Yongxing had also conducted a preliminary review of the information.

"I’m glad to assist you, Father," Ji Yongxing said.

Lin Qingliu waved his hand dismissively:

"No need to be so formal; this is a private commission. I’ll pay you later, and… when it doesn’t involve that, just call me Lin Qingliu or Dr. Lin."

With this, their relationship seemed to grow slightly closer.

Feeling less restrained, Ji Yongxing got straight to the point:

"Here are twenty properties that meet your budget, terrain, and surrounding building requirements. However, since your budget is quite limited…"

Before he could finish, Lin Qingliu handed Ji Yongxing a stack of information coins:

"This is the commission fee."

"Actually, you really don’t have to…"

"No, let’s keep things clear."

Seeing Lin Qingliu’s serious expression, Ji Yongxing’s demeanor shifted. He pulled out two documents from the stack:

"Alright, Dr. Lin, these two properties are now beyond your budget."

Lin Qingliu suppressed a smile, unsure whether to admire Ji Yongxing’s meticulousness or reflect on his own overly generous gesture.
