Chapter 149: The Psychologist Accepts the Temptation

In summer, Hope City, with its almost nonexistent greenery, feels unbearably dull and endless.

For someone like Lin Qingliu, who is constantly on the move, the season feels even more tedious.

At the moment, he was seated in a jolting military vehicle, passing through the East Third Gate of the inner city, en route to his clinic.

It was late August, and the period had been relatively calm. His followers were occupied with various tasks—some were training, others assisting with studies, investigating cases, conducting research, or even indulging in cosplaying as Batman…

Everyone was busy, and being busy was a good thing.

Lin Qingliu mused to himself as he began to ponder his next steps.

After a series of psychological treatment sessions, the team of psychologists he led had nearly completed the follow-up care for those affected by the Infected riot.

For those with traumatized minds, time was the best healer. Lin Qingliu’s role was to use suggestion techniques to stretch the soldiers’ perception of time, easing their mental anguish and turmoil.

As the mission drew to a close, Lin Qingliu compiled his thoughts into a report and delivered it to Wencheng.

The report primarily outlined his suggestions for improving the military’s compensation processes in Hope City.

Wencheng, showing great respect for this superpowered individual who lacked combat prowess, read the report aloud in his presence.

Lin Qingliu could sense the general’s satisfaction with his performance.

This satisfaction was evident not only in Wencheng’s demeanor but also in the generous compensation he received.

It had to be said that, as one of the three major organizations, the military spared no expense when it came to rewarding its personnel.

Lin Qingliu’s earnings from this mission were divided into three parts: his salary as a contracted psychologist for the military, a long-term task subsidy, and a one-time “relocation fee.”

Wencheng held Lin Qingliu, this highly effective psychologist and superpowered individual, in high regard. To ensure Lin Qingliu’s continued availability, he approved a relocation fee and ordered him to move into the inner city within ten days.

The two-story clinic in the outer city that had belonged to Lin Qingliu would be purchased at market value.

This directive was the source of Lin Qingliu’s relocation fee.

The combined sum was substantial for an average psychologist. Along with his previous savings and a bit of gray income from El’s cleanup of the outer city, Lin Qingliu’s total savings finally exceeded 400,000 information coins.

This amount was sufficient for him to purchase a relatively secluded property in the inner city.

Thus, at this moment, he was less on a vacation and more on an official relocation mission.

Though the order was somewhat forceful, Lin Qingliu accepted it willingly.

On one hand, he had been considering a move to the inner city for some time. Being closer to the center would allow him to better manage his followers, and the inner city’s central location made it easier to respond to emergencies.

On the other hand, Wencheng’s offer was simply too generous to refuse.

Even though Lin Qingliu had reached the Fifth Level in his strongest pathway, he still chose to abide by human rules.

And within the realm of human rules, money was indispensable, even if it went by the name of information coins.

Lin Qingliu had long envisioned his plans for development after moving into the inner city. For a secretive organization, he had always wanted to establish a facility akin to a base.

His [Museum] pathway had reached the Third Level, making basic design work relatively straightforward for him.

However, before the move, there were still a few things he needed to take care of…

“You can drop me off here. I need to buy some woven bags to pack my things.”

Lin Qingliu smiled at the driver in the passenger seat, instructing him to stop near the market, just two streets away from the clinic.

He did not want the military personnel to get too close to his home, and this reason was indeed quite reasonable.

After purchasing several woven bags officially produced by factories, Lin Qingliu strolled back to his clinic with a light step.

Relying on his heightened five senses from multiple enhancements, he confirmed that no one was currently following or watching him.

Inserting the key and turning it to open the door, a nearly invisible hair slowly fell to the ground, and Lin Qingliu’s expression relaxed once again.

Closing the door and stepping into the entrance, Lin Qingliu observed the empty clinic and soon noticed an obvious sign of movement: a patient registration book was placed on the front desk.

His eyebrows raised as he considered a possibility, and he quickly walked over to flip through it.

Before long, Lin Qingliu’s gaze fixed on the last line of text in the registration book:

[Name: Li Xiaodao…

Address: 02, Alley 3, Market 2, outer city]

Seeing this line of unexpected information, Lin Qingliu’s lips curled slightly.

That was El’s current base.

As a boy who was sensitive to the outside world and somewhat lacking in care, after sharing a few meals and treating several wounds, El and Lin Qingliu’s relationship was more like friends with a significant age difference rather than just a simple follower and bishop.

Each time the location of the base changed, El would proactively inform Lin Qingliu.

Although he never sought El out first, this trust genuinely touched Lin Qingliu.

And this time, it was clear that El had discovered Lin Qingliu was not home and used his Dimensional Shift ability to enter the room, leaving this message behind.

Lin Qingliu happened to have business with El as well.

He set down the woven bags in his hands, checked the time, and left his home once again, heading toward the address written in the message.

It was a somewhat rundown alley, and Lin Qingliu pushed past the people gathered at the entrance selling their goods and walked straight in.

After several turns, the light in the alley grew darker, and the air became increasingly damp, carrying a hint of mold.

Sensing that there was no one around, Lin Qingliu walked directly toward a large door, activating his Dimensional Shift and silently slipping inside.

For such a meeting, politeness felt somewhat redundant, and knocking on the door was meaningless.

Entering the narrow room, which consisted of only two small rooms, Lin Qingliu immediately spotted two rather scruffy-looking men.

One was approximately thirty years old, with unkempt facial hair clearly showing he hadn’t groomed himself for quite some time.

At that moment, he was sprawled out on a thin mattress on the floor, a light blanket draped over him, rising and falling with his continuous snoring.

In the other room slept a boy who looked around twelve or thirteen. Despite being In Dream, he still slightly furrowed his brow, appearing to possess an inherently cool expression.

Lin Qingliu thought for a moment, feeling it was still early, so he gently pressed his hand against El’s forehead, entering the boy’s dream.
