Chapter 119: Lord Kame Wants to Get a Position

“Name?”

“Lin Qingliu.”

“Age?”

“Twenty… twenty-one.”

“Which department did you graduate from?”

“Short-term psychology program at the Third Medical College of Hope City.”

“A short-term program, huh…”

“What’s wrong with the short-term program? A good short-term program isn’t any worse than a long-term one!”

Lin Qingliu’s sudden retort caught the peace officer off guard. His brain seemed to momentarily freeze, and he finally pointed to the other side of the hall:

“It’s fine, take this form and follow that person over there, the one with the military cap.”

It was August, and the summer in Hope City wasn’t particularly hot. In fact, the seasons there weren’t very distinct; the temperature always hovered in a range that was neither too cold nor too hot.

Lin Qingliu had been diligently listening to Fulan’s broadcasts every day and finally awaited the day when the positions would start recruiting. He brought his identification and certificates proving his qualifications to the Public Security Team to sign up.

Though it sounded strange, the deity currently needed this position badly.

Lin Qingliu approached the man in the military cap, who took his application and glanced at it before looking up at the young man.

In the other’s eyes, Lin Qingliu appeared gentle and unthreatening, almost like a naturally gifted psychological counselor.

“Wait in the car outside; we’ll leave once we have enough people.”

“Do we need to gather enough people?”

“Of course. Do you think there aren’t many people wanting to sign up?”

“It’s not that; I meant there are fewer doctors in the eastern outer city…”

Lin Qingliu hinted a bit, but the man in the military cap didn’t seem to understand.

At that moment, a peace officer approached the man in the military cap and leaned down, speaking in a voice that was neither too loud nor too soft:

“A serial killer emerged a few months ago, and they still haven’t caught him, so many people have moved out of the outer city.”

“I’ve heard about that, but didn’t he only kill doctors?”

“A psychologist is still a doctor.”

The man in the military cap suddenly showed an expression of realization and turned to Lin Qingliu:

“No wonder there are so few sign-ups. You wait for half an hour; if no one else comes, I’ll take you.”

“By the way, why aren’t you afraid of the murderer?”

Yeah, what’s up with that?

Lin Qingliu scratched his head and smiled:

“Because I know a bit of martial arts.”

The man in the military cap’s eyes lit up; although a psychologist wouldn’t go to the front lines, having some self-defense skills was always a good thing as a member of the military.

He looked at Lin Qingliu with an approving expression:

“Not bad. I will report this and arrange a separate test for you. If you pass, you’ll earn extra points.”

Lin Qingliu nodded and left the Public Security Team, heading to the open-top military jeep outside.

After about fifteen minutes, the man in the military cap seemed unable to wait any longer and casually got into the driver’s seat.

As he pressed down on the accelerator, the engine emitted a faint vibration, and the two of them engaged in conversation while driving toward the military camp.

—

Nearly a month had passed since the Infected riot, and the chaos was gradually subsiding.

Everything seemed to return to a stable state, yet many places felt different now.

Wang Xiao was deeply engrossed in physical training and recovery abilities every day, earnestly preparing for the upcoming exploration team member elections.

Team 25 was down to just four members, and they hadn’t found new suitable candidates yet, which slightly diminished the team’s competitiveness.

For this reason, Fresnel had recently been pleading for new superpowered individuals to be assigned to his team as soon as possible.

As for Obscure, his application had been approved by the higher-ups, but this cowardly behavior resulted in various reductions in his treatment and penalties.

Obscure had now been forcibly reassigned, and it was uncertain how long it would be before he was reinstated.

He was not surprised by this and had been prepared; he packed his belongings before the orders were issued.

According to Fresnel’s inquiries, Obscure was now a soldier guarding the city walls in his thirties, using his real name and performing a lot of dirty and tiring work.

Hope City’s officials strictly prohibited such behavior, yet Obscure’s parents had sacrificed their lives for Hope City, so he did not face overly severe punishment.

—

Zhuang Mian and her team conducted a thorough cleanup in the affluent neighborhoods of the inner city, seemingly close to capturing everyone involved.

This time, Hope City truly took significant action, leading Zhuang Mian to feel a sense of optimism that everything would get better.

However, memories from another life constantly reminded her that such measures were meaningless.

After all, no matter how many people they captured, the essence of this operation was merely for show.

—

Ji Yongxing had been so busy lately that he found himself in a chaotic situation, even considering his competence.

This wasn’t due to overly complex work tasks but rather because his hobbies were taking up too much time.

His work in the Weapon Research Department was going smoothly, and he had even received some requests directly from frontline superpowered individuals.

Among those requests, he saw Wang Xiao’s demand for armor for exploration purposes.

Ji Yongxing paid special attention to this matter.

Designing a set of mechanical armor wasn’t particularly difficult; the Weapon Research Department had several records of successes and failures.

Those prototypes could actually be used, but Hope City’s resources did not support supplying these items to every soldier at the front line.

Regarding the designs, Ji Yongxing had his own ideas.

One night a month ago, he believed he had successfully analyzed a drop of divine blood.

Though he had only glimpsed part of the knowledge contained within, Ji Yongxing had gained insights into creation afterward.

A wealth of knowledge, strong abilities, and the right to legally take components from the laboratory together formed a massive undertaking occupying half of Ji Yongxing’s dorm room.

Countless components glimmered, and lines of code were continuously written, guiding things toward an unknown direction.

But Ji Yongxing wasn’t worried or afraid; he remembered the teachings he had heard in the world of divine enlightenment:

“Creation should treat its creations well.”

Finally, after staying up for three consecutive nights, an electronic voice that seemed to carry some emotion resonated in Ji Yongxing’s dorm:

“Good evening, Your Excellency, the [Pioneer], my great creator.

“Please give me a name.”

His face expressed uncontainable joy, but Ji Yongxing found himself troubled by the request for a name.

To be honest, the title [Pioneer] felt quite shameful…

However, for something of his creation… the name should somewhat reflect his own style.

Ji Yongxing’s thoughts drifted into his fantasies about the future, and facing this seemingly sentient program, he said earnestly:

“From now on, you shall be called [Skydome].”
