Chapter 2
Xie Fuzhi picked up Yun Chuyou from the battlefield years ago, raising her from a frail five-year-old into a blossoming young girl of fifteen or sixteen, standing gracefully like a beautiful lotus bud.
Although his little disciple was now older and had become the Elder Martial Sister of the sect, with her own opinions and ideas, after relying on each other for so long, Xie Fuzhi could tell from a single glance that Yun Chuyou was truly angry with him.
Yun Chuyou had a really good temper, so it was hard to soothe someone who was usually so easygoing when they finally lost their cool. Had he done something wrong by not listening to her and failing to properly fulfill his role as her master?
If you make a mistake, you should admit it. The carefree young cultivator smiled carefully and said, “It’s still early. It’s not too late to take in a few new disciples. If you don’t like the younger martial sister, should I send her back?”
The older disciple is more important than the newly accepted ones.
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhong Wei’s nails dug tightly into her soft palm, her teeth pressed against her lips, and she tasted the rusty blood in her mouth. In her old home, she was seen as worthless, a humble existence that showed her parents’ lack of regard for her.
After wandering aimlessly and struggling to survive, she happened upon an immortal recruiting disciples in the Mortal World. Her shabby appearance drew disdain from the others in the group, who sneered and pushed her into a corner.
It was the man sleeping in the chair who suddenly woke up, grabbed her, and said they had a connection as master and disciple. Zhong Wei, still young and dazed, agreed and took the badge of the Qingxu Sect.
She knew this sect wasn’t reputable, but no other sect had shown her any interest. An immortal like Xie Fuzhi was her only chance.
But now… she was being discarded again, as casually as grass trampled on the roadside.
If she was thrown back, she would become someone even the Qingxu Sect didn’t want, and she would have to continue being that little beggar that people kicked aside.
Zhong Wei’s pupils were still dilated from nervousness. Her expression was dark, and a shadowy cloud hung over her head. Even though she was used to these situations, every time she experienced something like this, she still couldn’t control her negative emotions.
Zhong Wei bent her knee and knelt on the ground, crying, “Brother Fairy, Sister Fairy, I will be good. I will work hard for you. Please don’t send me back!”
Yun Chuyou looked at her younger martial sister, who suddenly knelt, and saw her expression change to a dark cloud.

[Evil Value +1]
The moment Xie Fuzhi said he would send Zhong Wei back, the Evil Value above the little girl’s head spiked by 10—and it kept climbing. In mere moments, her Evil Value had risen by 15 points.
Yun Chuyou suddenly felt a headache coming on. The little beggar’s Evil Value kept rising, but her dirty little face showed a sad expression. Though she was a bit dirty, her pose was indeed adorable.
Since being struck by lightning, Yun Chuyou had noticed something strange. Above the heads of the first two people she encountered—Xie Fuzhi and Zhong Wei—peculiar visual effects appeared. Weather-forecast emojis floated there, alongside fluctuating Evil Values, likely a side effect of the system’s binding.
Zhong Wei had a dark cloud looming above her, while Xie Fuzhi’s head bore a white cloud shaped like a crying face, complete with two tiny drops of water resembling drizzle.
The gentle wind forced Zhong Wei’s kneeling knees to rise, and its tone changed from soft to a bit firm. “Stand straight, no kneeling. We are proper cultivators, and our sect does not need any slaves.”
The tears pooling in Zhong Wei’s eyes froze in place, held back by sheer will. The droplets trembled but did not fall.
Yun Chuyou sighed as she bent down to look at Zhong Wei, who was dressed up like a little boy. Knowing the story, she understood that Zhong Wei was the wicked female character, but she was still a child, and one should always be gentle with girls.
Her eyes were clear, and her voice sounded especially sincere, without a hint of falsehood. “Don’t listen to what Master says; I don’t dislike you. I was just angry at Master, making him talk nonsense.”
The clouds in Xie Fuzhi’s mind shifted from light rain to heavy rain, but Yun Chuyou ignored him and paused. “Our Qingxu Sect is just a small sect, lacking the resources of larger sects, and I don’t know if Master tricked you into coming here. If your talents are good, staying in a small sect like ours would only waste your time. If you want to join another sect, I can take you back.”
She couldn’t help but feel angry at Xie Fuzhi; Qingxu Sect was just an empty shell, left with just a mountain and a poor sect. Ten years ago, Xie Fuzhi had taken her in, and the two of them lived a hard life together on the mountain.
Perhaps because she had built her foundation and was quickly about to break through to Golden Core, Xie Fuzhi got the idea to promote the sect and recently picked up two little boys on the road, claiming they were her Junior Martial Brother and Second Junior Brother.
Soon after, there was a recruitment of new disciples from various sects. Yun Chuyou thought their sect did very little, so she wanted to let Xie Fuzhi recruit some hardworking mortal disciples. It didn’t matter if their Spiritual Roots were low; they could give the disciples some chances in return for benefiting the sect.
But in the end, just like in the story, Xie Fuzhi picked up the wicked female character. At first, Yun Chuyou only thought Master was unreliable, but after learning the story, her heart turned colder than someone who had been fishing for ten years at the market.
Look at Xie Fuzhi; what kind of gaze is that? Besides picking himself up, what are those kids even worth?!
The rebellious Junior Martial Brother will be the main character’s devoted follower in the future, holding a Demon Bone, and he will betray his master without hesitation.
The thin, little, pitiful Second Junior Brother, a ghost child by nature, was born to cause trouble, stirring up chaos in the world of cultivation.
Right in front of us is the younger martial sister, who looks like a little beggar: she has a crazy, love-struck mind. Unable to have the main character, she turns into a lunatic and loves to dance around with the main character, the wicked female antagonist.
In the whole sect, besides her, a person who doesn’t belong to the story, no one is decent; they’re all dirty characters!
Even her master, Xie Fuzhi, who seems to be a good person rescuing a poor child, is not good at all. In fact, he will be the ultimate villain who destroys the world.
The reason for his madness and chaos in the world of cultivation is simple: all his disciples have been lost, and the Qingxu Sect has no hope, so he wants the whole cultivation world to share his hopelessness.
Xie Fuzhi is not a kind-hearted immortal but a reckless and defiant cultivator. Otherwise, he wouldn’t speak so casually about sending people back and cruelly taking in new disciples.
Yun Chuyou could tell that he wasn’t acting to gain an advantage; he truly didn’t care about Zhong Wei in front of him.
Earlier, the two children he picked up outside the sect were brought back by Xie Fuzhi as workers because those two disciples appeared near the mountain gate of the Qingxu Sect and had good potential.
Years ago, Xie Fuzhi transformed from a carefree young man into a skilled and capable father figure, thanks to Yun Chuyou, a child with two lifetimes of memories, who worked very hard to help him change.
The female side character could cause trouble and had decent training talent; she had a Water Spiritual Root. However, for some reason, her Spiritual Root was replaced, turning into an ordinary Four Spirit Root.
Yun Chuyou felt a headache thinking about all those messy plots. She wanted to change the situation from its source, “Master, have you tested her Spiritual Root?”
Xie Fuzhi felt a bit guilty, “Not yet, but I believe that anyone connected to me will not be an ordinary person.”
Yun Chuyou asked him for the Spirit Measuring Stone and said to Zhong Wei, “Put your hand on this spirit stone.”
The Spirit Measuring Stone showed that Zhong Wei had Four Spirit Roots, but her Wood Spiritual Root was very special.
Yun Chuyou knew her master wasn’t reliable, so she began to explain some basics of the cultivation world to Zhong Wei, “You should know a bit about the Immortal Ascending Platform. In the cultivation world, having no Spiritual Roots means you can only be an ordinary person. As long as you have a Spiritual Root, you can train; except for Single Spiritual Roots, all other Spiritual Roots are mixed. Among mixed Spiritual Roots, Double Spiritual Roots are the best, and Five Spiritual Roots are the weakest…”
Spiritual Roots are a gift from heaven. To create or change a Spiritual Root, one must use rare treasures, and a cultivator is unlikely to give such things to an ordinary person without any connection.
A cruel supporting character with a background in the script cannot possibly be an ordinary person. However, Yun Chuyou did not want to explain this to the supporting character now, as she had no way to reveal her source of information, and she could not help Zhong Wei get revenge. Sharing this would only make the young girl sad for no reason.
“Even though you have Four Spirit Roots, your Wood Spiritual Root has good purity, and you are young with great potential. Many sects should want you. Growing forests and grass for Pill Cultivation or healing is very good.”
The purity of the Spiritual Root also affects the speed of cultivation. Purity is divided into four levels: Heaven, Earth, Mysterious, and Yellow. A Heavenly Spiritual Root must be a Single Spiritual Root, but a Single Spiritual Root may not reach the purity of a Heavenly Spiritual Root and could only be at the Earth level. Besides the Heavenly Spiritual Root, the Earth, Mysterious, and Yellow levels are further divided into three grades: the first grade is the best, and the third grade is the worst.
However, if the purity of the Five Spiritual Roots is the same, and the level of the Spiritual Root is especially high, then it is above the Single Spiritual Root, just below the Heavenly Spiritual Root, known as the Chaos Spiritual Root.
It is said to be just below because the Heavenly Spiritual Root is also favored by the heavens, but the Spirit Qi and resources needed for upgrading are only one-fifth of what the Chaos Spiritual Root requires.
Although, under equal cultivation levels, a Heavenly Spiritual Root cannot surpass a Chaos Spiritual Root, focusing on one area is easier than balancing both. In the early stages, the cultivation speed of a Heavenly Spiritual Root is much faster than that of a Chaos Spiritual Root. Moreover, the resources needed for upgrading become greater over time; sects find it much easier to nurture Heavenly Spiritual Root disciples compared to those with Chaos Spiritual Roots, and even major sects will prefer the former over the latter.
Yun Chuyou said, “Of course, Qingxu Sect is currently poor and has nothing. We cannot afford or keep talents like that.”
Xie Fuzhi immediately refuted, “Our Qingxu Sect was once a big sect; it’s not as bad as you say.”
Yun Chuyou replied irritably, “You know it was in the past. When I speak, you must not interrupt; otherwise, the peach blossom wine I made for you this year will be gone.”
She patiently explained some common knowledge about cultivation to Zhong Wei and introduced a few respectable sects. Then she added, “Choosing between a disciple and a sect is a two-way decision. If the sect favors the disciple and provides resources, backing out later would make you a traitor. Today was unexpected; my master brought you back without much consideration. You still have a chance to change your mind. Don’t worry about the wind on the way—I’ll take you back to the Immortal Ascending Platform on my sword.”
Yun Chuyou patiently waited for Zhong Wei’s refusal, hoping she would distance herself from this unlucky sect and perhaps change the trajectory of the story.
Zhong Wei hesitated for a moment, but her timid voice became more determined, “I want to stay at Qingxu Sect.”
It was bumpy on the way here, and Zhong Wei didn’t want to go back. What if nobody wanted her? Yun Chuyou’s words sounded nice, but she didn’t fully believe them.
It seemed this was an unavoidable twist in the story. Still, the system had tasked Yun Chuyou with strengthening the sect. Although the girl was overly infatuated with love, her strength and luck were undeniable. Keeping her nearby might prove beneficial.
Yun Chuyou smiled faintly and cast a cleaning spell on the little beggar, leaving her spotless. Gently, she touched the soft, yellowish hair atop Zhong Wei’s small head. “From now on, you’ll be the youngest disciple of the Qingxu Sect, my younger martial sister,” she said.
