Volume 2 + Chapter 32: “Eat My Ice Soul Elbow!”
“Two presumptuous brats dare to obstruct our noble cause,” the fanatic sneered with a rough voice.
“We have broken free from the frailty of human form, awakened from the slumber of ignorance, and now serve the truth, guided by the boundless wisdom and mastery of the Erunes.”
“How could you insignificant ants possibly comprehend our great undertaking?”
“Still spouting nonsense, huh? If you’re sick, go get treated. I suggest you hurry to the church hospital for your mental illness. I have some connections and can help arrange it for you.”
“So, why is it always Carillian Academy? Why are you so obsessed with this place? Keep attacking it, is there a gold mine here or something?” Winnie continued to complain.
“”You insignificant mortals cannot possibly comprehend our path. Ignorance and weakness are not crimes, but standing in our way, opposing the Truth, that is the true sin” the fanatic sharpened his claws.
“The Supreme God will one day be reborn, return to the earth, descend and purify this broken, filthy world. And our master, Erunes, is the only candidate.”
“When [Order] completely collapses, the one Supreme God will awaken and reappear, prostrate on the ground, welcoming the descent and divine punishment of our master Erunes. You could have continued to struggle to live in the world after our master becomes the Supreme God, for our master is merciful.”
“But since you insist on opposing us, opposing our master, then no one can save you. Resisting the coming Supreme God, your fate will ultimately be burned away by the Truth,” the fanatic said leisurely.
“Didn’t expect you, ugly freak, to have the potential to be a bard? How come you can spout one set of nonsense after another?” Winnie couldn’t understand what the fanatic was saying.
Truth, Supreme God, he didn’t get it at all. The game’s setting only had some basic, superficial elements, without delving deeper into the worldview.
After all, people play this game to see cute girls being affectionate, not to chew through lengthy and tedious world-building.
Besides, Winnie hadn’t even finished reading the game’s setting, so he had no idea what this monster was talking about.
He just took it as the other’s ramblings. After all, losing their human identity and becoming a demon pillar’s kin, most of them had something wrong with their heads.
Or rather, they were never normal to begin with. Would a normal person choose to convert to a demon pillar?
After hearing the fanatic’s cryptic, poetic speech, Aesphyra remained silent.
“Carillian Academy holds something they shouldn’t, that which obstructs the ‘Truth,’ the greatest obstacle to the birth of the Supreme God, something that should never have existed in this world,” the fanatic clenched his fist.
“Relying on that thing, you species that should have been eliminated long ago have managed to survive until now. Otherwise, you heretics who do not revere our master would have been exiled to the dark, chaotic void to fend for yourselves.”
“That damned thing hinders the progress of this world’s evolution and our plans. Everything that remains unchanged should be destroyed!”
“All resistance and struggle are futile. In the world where the Supreme God descends, there is no place for you!” The fanatic’s writhing tentacles suddenly extended, stabbing towards the two.
[Alchemical Touch]
The speed was so fast that Winnie didn’t even have time to dodge.
Aesphyra gracefully put on a pair of disposable gloves, gently pushed Winnie aside, and elegantly spun in the air, narrowly avoiding the writhing tentacle.
“Crack!” The tentacle stabbed into the ground between them, melting a terrifying hole.
What the hell is that??
Winnie was stunned.
Poison? Or magic??
Whether it was poison or magic, if he had been hit by that move just now, he would probably be done for. [Armor Fortress] definitely couldn’t block this kind of non-physical attack.
The fanatic’s attack didn’t stop. Seeing that both had dodged, the fanatic used his tentacles to wrap around the pillars beside them, pulling his main body over, diving down like a giant slingshot.
At a glance, anyone could see that Winnie was the softest persimmon to squeeze. Naturally, he became the fanatic’s main target.
“You really are a toad dreaming of being a frog, ugly as hell but full of fancy ideas, thinking this young master is easy to bully, huh?” Winnie naturally saw the fanatic’s intention, with both attacks aimed at him, and couldn’t help but curse.
Who is Winnie? Even if his hand skills are lacking, his mouth skills never fail.
“You half-human, half-ghost freak, I think you’re a pure idiot. This young master could dig for ten years in a gold mine and not find someone as pure as you. Watch me beat your medical insurance card into debt today!”
His mouth was faster than his brain. As the fanatic charged, Winnie first thought to dodge, but then felt he couldn’t avoid it at this speed.
Then he thought to counterattack, but wondered if he could even do that?? Better just run.
But before he could decide, the fanatic’s rough, wrinkled face was already inches away from his.
Oh no, I’m scared to death!
At the last moment, a petite silver figure spun through the air, a holy sword wrapped in crimson flames slashing solidly into the fanatic’s waist, forcing him off course and sending him tumbling back over ten meters before he stopped.
“In a life-and-death battle, even the worst choice is better than hesitation and indecision,” Aesphyra said, holding her sword in a reverse grip, resting it on her back, and landing gracefully beside Winnie after cleaving the fanatic.
“Tch, who needs you to tell me that? This young master already knows!” Having just brushed with death, Winnie, though his forehead was drenched in cold sweat, couldn’t help but retort.
It seemed that being stubborn had become one of his passive skills.
“Well, uh, thanks anyway, for saving this young master again,” Winnie coughed to cover his embarrassment.
“Three times now,” Aesphyra turned back, holding up three fingers.
“Huh? What three times?” Winnie was confused.
“Tonight, I’ve saved you three times, Winnie.”
“Hmm, how will you repay me~?” Aesphyra raised an eyebrow, her lips curving slightly.
“Don’t try to muddy the waters! It’s only been twice!” Winnie frowned.
“Oh? So you think the stone statue that fell during the banquet broke in half by itself?” Aesphyra smiled.
“……Alright, fine. This young master knew it, you’ve been watching me since the banquet, even following me here,” Winnie raised an eyebrow.
“Shouldn’t you be more grateful that I was wary and followed you here? Otherwise, you’d probably be meeting the Goddess by now.”
“Tch.” Winnie couldn’t retort, so he just clicked his tongue and glared at the fanatic with dead fish eyes.
“You still dare to mess with me??” Winnie flipped the fanatic, the ring on his finger shimmering with rippling lightning.
“Let me cure your chuunibyou!” With that, a thundercloud appeared above the fanatic, and a bolt of lightning struck his head.
“Are you numb? Are you numb? What? You don’t want to be numb anymore? Hahahaha.” Winnie laughed, hands on his hips. “Now you know this young master’s power, don’t you?”
After the thunder, a jagged crack appeared on the ground. The fanatic, smoking all over, stood motionless in the middle.
After a moment, when his body regained mobility, he slightly moved his joints, and a string of thick, electric liquid dripped from his body.
“What the hell??” Winnie’s eyes widened. “No way, this guy’s immune to electricity?? Why didn’t the magic work??”
“[Fanatics], as notable kin of the [Alchemical Demon God] Erunes, possess many traits of Erunes’s kin, including the [Alchemical Blood] trait,” Aesphyra recited the [Fanatic]’s characteristics like a mantra.
“[Alchemical Blood]?? What kind of trait is that??” Winnie was clueless.
“This trait grants Erunes’s kin partial elemental resistance, equivalent to them carrying random types of elemental absorption resistance. This fanatic happened to randomly get lightning elemental absorption resistance, so your lightning-enchanted ring’s attack was quite ineffective,” Aesphyra explained.
“See those blue liquid drops falling from his body? That’s his ‘blood.’ Fanatics have several types of such blood flowing in their bodies, each used to resist and absorb different elemental magic.”
“Using potions as blood?? That’s hardcore!” Winnie couldn’t help but say.
“That’s what [Alchemical Blood] is. Otherwise, why do you think [Fanatics] are so hard to deal with?” Aesphyra countered.
“Tsk, elemental absorption potions, those are worth a fortune. I wonder how much these fanatics would fetch if sold,” Winnie mused.
“Won’t work. Once those potions leave his body, they quickly deactivate. So theoretically, selling them is impossible,” Aesphyra raised an eyebrow.
“So, does that mean they almost have ‘overall magic resistance’??” Winnie asked.
“Of course not. While their blood is equivalent to elemental absorption potions, able to absorb certain elemental magic, it’s not unlimited. Once that portion of blood is used up, they lose their resistance to that element. Moreover, they only have blood resistant to certain elements, not all.”
“The only family in the Terraria continent that truly has ‘magic resistance’ is one,” Aesphyra said, glancing at Winnie, then shaking her head. “But if the bloodline is dead, it’s meaningless.”
Winnie remained silent, just pursing his lips.
The fanatic, numbed by Winnie’s lightning, regained his mobility. His strong arms shook, claws flashing with lightning.
“So it’s a lightning-attributed fanatic,” Aesphyra said. “No wonder he has lightning absorption resistance blood.”
“Kid, I’m going to tear you to pieces!” The fanatic roared, his ash-like hair flailing, his two claws clashing together, sending a bolt of lightning towards Winnie.
Aesphyra’s holy sword ignited with crimson flames, using magic against magic, shattering the fanatic’s lightning. The sword planted into the ground, and intense heat surged.
[Crimson Path]
The ground melted, a carpet of crimson flames spreading towards the fanatic.
The fanatic stabbed his tentacles into the ground on either side, lifting his body to avoid the crimson carpet while launching himself into the air. A thunderous boom echoed, and lightning filled the sky.
This move again.
Winnie leveled his spear, gripping the end, and swung the ice-coated blade at the fanatic.
[Frost Moon Slash]
The icy blue laser blade swept past, leaving a trail of ice thorns and a thick ice wall protecting him and Aesphyra.
The fanatic’s thick claws slammed into the ice wall, but it was surprisingly sturdy.
Ice, water, and earth are strong defensive elements. Shields or walls made from these elements have high defensive capabilities, though water and earth elements are weaker in offense, while ice elements are comparable to many offensive elements.
Thus, those with high affinity for ice, which is both offensive and defensive, are rare.
Thanks to the strong defensive power of ice, and the high-level magic released by [Frostfang], the fanatic’s charging claw strike, which could easily break through Winnie’s [Ice Stell], couldn’t shatter the ice wall created by [Frost Moon Slash].
But if one strike doesn’t work, then two.
The muscular, towering fanatic’s claws flashed with lightning, repeatedly slamming into Winnie’s ice wall. In seconds, the wall had endured over ten thunderous slaps, and under the fanatic’s charged strike, it finally shattered.
But as he broke through the ice wall and saw what was behind it, he had no time to dodge or react to the elegant silver-haired girl spinning in the air, her crimson-wrapped holy sword descending towards his head, and the armored figure charging at him with ice-covered fists.
When he tore through the ice wall, he couldn’t see what was happening behind it, but those behind the wall knew what he was doing.
The two behind the wall were deliberately targeting his attack recovery, while he was oblivious.
Using the information gap, caught off guard, the crimson flames above slashed into his head, and the ice-covered fist below slammed into his abdomen.
[Flame Slash]
[Ice Steel]
Along with a certain blue-haired youth’s taunt: “Take this, you fanatic!”
“Eat my ice soul elbow!”
“Boom!” The fanatic flew back like a broken kite, his limbs scraping the ground, leaving deep marks as he tumbled back dozens of meters before stabilizing.
