Chapter 58: My Friend Knows Some Healing
“Yo, you little rascal, can’t go wild now, huh?” Pete, barely conscious, heard a somewhat familiar voice and with great effort turned his head towards the door, vaguely making out a familiar figure.
“…Trash big brother.”
“Pfft, still calling me trash? The real trash is you, a little brat who can’t even get out of bed now,” Winnie walked to the bedside, arms crossed, looking down mockingly.
“Grr…”
“What, not convinced? If you’re not convinced, get up and hit me,” Winnie raised an eyebrow, provoking him.
“You little brat, not even eating, where would you get the strength to hit me?”
“Hmph…”
“Feeling resentful? If you’re resentful, then obediently listen to the director and eat properly, or you’ll be lying here forever,” Winnie taunted. “I’ll come to your bedside every day to laugh at you.”
“You!” Provoked by Winnie, Pete felt a surge of strength, but then he gave up and shrank back.
“What’s the use?”
“I feel like I’ll never get better…”
“Never get better, my foot,” Winnie looked at him disdainfully.
“I think you’re just fine, pretending to be sick to skip studying.”
“You jerk!…”
“What, can’t take it? I can easily find someone to expose your pathetic lie,” Winnie chuckled.
“Hmph!” Pete ignored Winnie.
“Director, coincidentally, I have a friend who knows a bit about healing magic, maybe she can help cure this kid,” Winnie said to the director, not minding Pete’s reaction.
“Really? That would be too kind of you,” the director said gratefully.
Although unsure if it would work, he was thankful for the offer.
“Let me say upfront, it might not work, and there’s a condition, it can’t be done here. If you trust me, take this kid to my house, and I’ll have my friend treat him. I’ll bring him back tomorrow.”
“This…” The director hesitated, looking at Pete, seeking his opinion.
“Let’s go,” Pete didn’t hesitate much, staring at Winnie as he spoke.
“Yo, kid, answering so decisively, aren’t you afraid I’ll sell you by the pound?” Winnie teased.
“Hmph, not afraid!”
“Alright, you’re not afraid,” Winnie said to the director.
“So, director, is it okay?”
“Then, I’ll leave it to you and your friend,” after a moment of hesitation, the director had to agree.
After all, Pete’s condition could get worse if delayed.
Now, they had to try every possible method, and the old director’s intuition always told him that Winnie was a kind-hearted person.
“Alright, then let’s not waste any time, I’ll take this kid away?”
“Pete, listen to your brother, okay?” the director said to Pete.
Pete didn’t speak, just weakly nodded.
Arriving at Varelis’s mansion, after settling Pete on his bed, Winnie pulled over a stool, sat beside him, and closed his eyes, as if waiting for the friend he mentioned.
For some reason, Pete, lying in an unfamiliar room, wasn’t very scared.
“Someone’s at the door, she’s here,” Winnie got up and said to Pete.
“Huh?…” Pete was puzzled, was he too sick to hear the door knock?
“You kid, lie here properly,” Winnie didn’t explain, just walked towards the door while beckoning.
“Here, here, why are you so late?” As he spoke, Winnie walked out the door.
Feeling dizzy, Pete sensed a faint cherry blossom-like glow outside the door, followed by a soothing, enchanting voice that seemed to heal just by its sound.
“Sorry, Lord Winnie, I kept you waiting~”
Pete’s eyes widened, and the melodious voice, like that of a lark, made him, despite his weakness, crane his neck towards the door.
A fragrance, reminiscent of dried lavender and white tea flowers, wafted into his nostrils.
Pete felt as if his eyes were scorched by the dazzling cherry color, leaving him speechless and unable to react for a long time.
Her white dress resembled a snow lotus blooming in pure white snow, her light cherry hair like the falling cherry blossoms of April, and her peach-colored heart-shaped pupils like the shimmering autumn waters, narrating the unique charm of this holy beauty.
“An, angel?” Pete’s lips trembled, unsure how to describe this excessively beautiful girl, and he couldn’t help but recall the closest species to her from his learned knowledge.
Her light cherry hair swayed in the wind, tied into long twin tails with white wing-shaped accessories.
He wasn’t joking; he truly felt he had seen an angel today.
Did such a dreamlike, immaculately pure girl really exist in this world?
Apart from an angel, Pete really couldn’t find any other words to describe her.
“Shh~ Sick little friends should try not to talk, lie down.” Before he could react, the cherry-haired girl stood by the bed, one eye closed, her jade-like fingers clad in white gloves lightly touching her lips.
“Oh, oh.” Pete stared dumbfounded at the girl, his gaze unable to move away.
Her words seemed to possess some kind of magic, making him obey without any thought.
“Good boy.” The girl sat on the stool Winnie had occupied earlier, soothing Pete’s emotions.
Her voice was like cherries dipped in red wine, sweet and delightful, intoxicating.
Pete felt her soft, jade-like hand glide over his forehead, and in an instant, it seemed to heal his dispirited soul.
“It’s tough, isn’t it? It’s okay, have a good sleep, and when you wake up tomorrow, you will be as lively as ever~” The girl’s words were filled with a gentle maternal radiance.
The soft light cast shadows through her eyelashes, like cicada wings, calming Pete’s restless emotions and bringing him a strong sense of security.
Pete had never seen his mother since birth, but at this moment, he felt that if he had a mother, she would give him this feeling.
Pete’s cheeks were flushed, whether from illness or some other reason.
Then, he saw the jade-like hand that had comforted him emit a soft cherry-colored light.
In a moment of blurred consciousness, he knew nothing more.
“Sweet dreams, Pete.” Seeing Pete peacefully asleep, Vanessa revealed a motherly, gentle smile and closed her eyes.

The next morning.
Pete felt he had slept very comfortably, so much so that he slept all day, only barely opening his eyes the next afternoon.
“Huh?” Upon waking, he felt light all over, as if completely renewed.
The pain and illness had completely vanished.
“Yo, finally awake? The sun’s already up and you’re still sleeping.”
“Huh?” The mocking voice made Pete look up.
The moon-blue-haired boy leaned by the door, his handsome face illuminated by the warm sun, the ice crystal earring by his ear sparkling, his lips curled in a familiar tease.
“So full of energy, I told you, you were just pretending to be sick before.”
