Chapter 57: The Change In Temperament
Virtue points remaining: 254.
Vanessa glanced at the requirements for [Holy Feather Blessing], which consumes 200 virtue points.
Both are skills enhanced by divine blessings, but [Holy Flame Blessing], which only adds a magic cost reduction, requires 500 virtue points.
In contrast, [Holy Feather Blessing] offers many enhancements for only 200 virtue points, highlighting the value of [Holy Blessing Flame].
Without much hesitation, Vanessa activated [Holy Feather Blessing].
‘Virtue decreased by 200’
‘Current Virtue: 54’
Suddenly, she felt a surge of pure, holy energy flood her body.
She closed her eyes and attempted to summon another divine blessing of the [Blessed Angel], [Flawless Holy Feather].
In an instant, a golden light pierced the sky, and a pair of pristine, massive white wings unfurled from her back, resembling blooming lilies, scattering countless sacred light particles.
Vanessa gazed at the angelic wings, which were much longer than her own body, feeling deeply awestruck.
However, compared to the six wings of the Goddess Varelis, she currently only had two.
With the holy wings now empowering her, Vanessa felt as though she had gained the ability to soar through the skies.
At the same time, a pure energy infused her body, and the white wings continuously radiated sacred, dazzling light particles.
At night, the light cherry blossom-haired girl, surrounded by these glowing particles like a moon embraced by stars, appeared as if she were an angel blessed by the goddess, sacred and noble.
This truly made her seem like an angel, no, she was an angel.
Noticing the celestial phenomenon she had caused, Vanessa, still in awe, realized the potential trouble and quickly retracted her holy wings.
If someone saw this, it would be disastrous!
She couldn’t transform back yet, as the time hadn’t come.
So, she moved as far away from the city gates as possible, pondering where she could spend the night.
Are there any inns around the capital of Camella?
Surely, she couldn’t sleep in the wilderness tonight, could she?
Although she wasn’t afraid of wild beasts or similar dangers, the thought of roughing it in such a crude manner was unbearable to her.
If she were in her male form, she wouldn’t care where she slept, even a ditch would do for the night.
But now, things were different.
She wasn’t Winnie anymore; she was Vanessa.
The idea of sleeping on the dirty grass made her shudder, every hair on her body resisting the notion.
She would rather stay awake all night wandering outside than sleep on the filthy ground trampled by countless people!
…This body is just too delicate.
Vanessa had complained about this more than once.
Her current appearance, due to her striking beauty, was too eye-catching.
Staying at an inn would inevitably draw unwantedattention and cause unnecessary trouble.
Though the angelic form was powerful, Vanessa also realized the many inconveniences of her female body.
In her male form, she wouldn’t have these worries, nor would anyone pay much attention to a man.
The male form was definitely more convenient.
Vanessa sighed in frustration.
Tonight, she couldn’t go to an inn, nor could she sleep on the streets.
Her only option was to wander outside.
Meanwhile, in a luxurious inn in the capital of Camella, a silver-haired girl with amethyst eyes sipped her tea and glanced at the sky, her expression showing a hint of surprise.
“…What was that?” Seeing the golden light piercing the sky, Aesphyra’s face grew slightly puzzled.
More and more deviations from the previous timeline were occurring, making the future increasingly unpredictable.
But that golden light… did it seem familiar?
Aesphyra was certain she hadn’t seen this phenomenon before, but she vaguely remembered reading about something similar somewhere.
—
The next morning, a blue-haired young man with dark circles under his eyes walked through the streets of Camella’s capital.
It was Winnie, who had stayed awake all night, wandering outside the city, not daring to enter until he had transformed back at the appointed time.
He let out a big yawn, having stayed up all night, feeling as if he was about to transcend into immortality.
Though his body was exhausted, his nerves were surprisingly alert.
Having nothing to do that night, he spent the entire time studying the two enchanted items he had acquired.
He cherished these hard-earned enchanted items immensely, especially the Magic Tool, [Frostfang].
Such a level of weapon might have been something Winnie could never have touched in his previous life.
But now, it had been transformed into a light blue crystal earring dangling from Winnie’s right earlobe.
After putting on this earring, Winnie’s demeanor underwent a noticeable change, shifting from a somewhat delicate youth to one with a more gentle beauty.
Well, wearing an earring might not be something typically done by a male, but after weighing the difference in combat power between his two forms, Winnie decided to use the enchanted items in his male form.
When he transformed into his angelic form, he would hide them to avoid raising suspicions about his identity.
So now, Winnie, adorned with the crystal earring and a sapphire-like thunder ring, exuded a somewhat noble aura.
As he walked, looking at the familiar streets and buildings, Winnie realized where he had come.
He had been quite busy lately and hadn’t visited this place in a long time.
Thus, Winnie entered the capital’s orphanage.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but the atmosphere in the orphanage seemed much quieter than before.
“It’s you,” the elderly director of the orphanage, his face clouded with worry, was taken aback upon seeing Winnie.
Although his appearance was still recognizable, Winnie’s looks had changed significantly compared to before.
The freckles on his face were gone, and his once malnourished, sallow complexion had greatly improved.
Paired with the icy crystal earring, his attractiveness soared, giving off a cold, jade-like impression.
Now, Winnie truly had the air of a beautiful youth.
If not for his male attire, his overly delicate features and shoulder-length hair might easily lead one to mistake him for a girl.
“You seem to be in much better spirits lately, sir,” the old director complimented sincerely.
Nodding briefly, Winnie glanced at the children playing in the orphanage, feeling that the usual noise was noticeably absent.
“Where’s that little rascal?” Every time he visited the orphanage before, that little rascal would always find him first and throw a ball at him.
“You mean Pete?” The old director sighed. “That child… alas.”
“What’s wrong? What happened to him?” Winnie sensed something was amiss.
“Well, it’s nothing, he’s just been feeling unwell lately.”
“Old sir, if there’s something, just say it. Hiding it like this, do you think so little of me?” Winnie crossed his arms, raising a somewhat fierce eyebrow, fully embodying the aura of a villain.
“No, no, it’s just… well, the child has come down with a strange illness and has been bedridden for several days now,” the old director shook his head.
“A strange illness? What kind of illness? Why not ask the nuns from the church to heal him?” Winnie inquired.
“Of course, I went to ask, but the nuns were powerless too. They said they had never seen such an illnessbefore, and at least with their healing spells, theycouldn’t cure the child,” the director’s voice was filled with helplessness.
“Beyond that, there are the high-ranking nuns and priests of the church, but how could common folk like us ever hope to meet such figures?” the director lamented.
“Where is the kid? Can you take me to see him?” Winnie suddenly interjected.
“That child is still bedridden, can’t eat, and has lost a lot of weight in just two days… Very well, I’ll take you to see him,” the old director then led Winnie into the orphanage’s building.
