“Thank you for riding with us, we look forward to serving you again.” As expected of a luxurious high-end carriage, upon arrival, there were service personnel to open the door and express their gratitude, along with a small gift.
Although not valuable, it certainly maximized the emotional value.
Winnie arrived at the town of Orel. For this trip, the only equipment he carried was a heavy cloth bag on his back.
Honestly, compared to the items wrapped in the cloth bag, he was more skilled and preferred using weapons like spears and swords.
However, he did not bring them this time because, strictly speaking, he wasn’t the one who would be doing the fighting; it would be his ‘stand’.
Having already eaten and slept enough on the carriage, he was well-rested and now felt very confident.
However, his opponents were still demons.
Whether in his past life or this one, he had never fought such creatures.
Even if they were just a few grunts, he had to go all out.
After all, he knew nothing about the actual combat strength of demons.
How powerful were low ranked demons?
Winnie remembered from the books that a low-level demon could easily take on ten ordinary human soldiers.
Low-level demons, like ordinary human soldiers, could not use magic.
In melee combat without magic, the thick-skinned and generally much larger demons clearly had the advantage.
Humans’ impression of demons, aside from their savagery and ferocity, was mostly fear.
This was largely because, in villages and towns with weak defenses, even the most ragtag demon army was invincible.
If even one low-level demon broke through the city walls, it would be the start of a massacre.
Ordinary metal weapons could hardly harm the thick-skinned demons.
In a village or small town without any means of magical attack, they were like meat grinders.
Without mages, humans couldn’t even fight back.
Without external help, with Winnie’s current strength, he probably couldn’t even break through the defense of a demon and would be crushed in no time.
Orel town was near the kingdom’s border, so unlike other small towns, it was protected by city walls and had more defensive forces compared to other towns within the kingdom.
After entering the town, Winnie bought a map of the nearby area at a specialty store in Orel.
The map felt somewhat familiar, almost indistinguishable from the ones in games.
The event was supposed to occur in the forest southeast of Orel town.
Winnie vaguely remembered the general location and marked a cross on the map with a black marker.
He then left the town and headed out of the city.
“Young man, where are you headed?” Just a few steps out of the city, he was called by a guard on the city wall.
“Mr. Guard, is there something wrong?” Winnie was puzzled.
Perhaps influenced a bit by Vanessa, he addressed people with polite titles.
“Recently, Orel town has been quite unsettled. The direction you’re heading is towards the Demon Realm River, where some demons occasionally cross the border. It’s not safe, so I advise you to change your route,” the guard advised to Winnie.
“Thank you for the reminder.” Although they were strangers, the guard’s warning showed he had a good heart.
Winnie thanked him but did not intend to follow the advice.
He was currently very eager to improve his strength.
Seeing Winnie walk away without looking back, the guard didn’t bother further.
They were mere acquaintances; he had said what he needed to, and there was no point in trying to persuade someone who was determined.
Upon entering the forest, the temperature seemed to drop instantly, making the forest feel quite eerie.
Winnie ventured deeper into the forest.
Thanks to his recent physical training, his stamina has improved.
Even though the cloth bag on his back was heavy, he could still walk for a long time.
Deep in the forest, he suddenly saw a somewhat familiar moss-covered boulder.
“This should be the area,” Winnie recalled.
The scene from the game’s storyline included this conspicuous mossy boulder, with vines hanging from the surrounding trees.
The setting matched, so it seemed he hadn’t taken a wrong turn.
In the game’s storyline, Aesphyra had dealt with several crimson demons here and incidentally split an unrelated large boulder in half.
This proved that even being a spectator had its risks.
Just as Winnie was about to make his next move, a strange noise suddenly came from within the forest.
Winnie immediately became alert.
Even with his mediocre human hearing, he could tell that something was rapidly approaching, and not just one, many, with heavy footsteps that tore up the grass with each step.
It was likely that demons were coming.
He had arrived just in time, coinciding with the demons’ invasion of the Orel forest.
Winnie decided to first assess the situation before planning his next move, so he quickly climbed onto the large boulder and found a hidden spot to conceal himself.
He held his breath, his eyes fixed on the bushes where the noise was coming from.
The sound was getting closer.
Then, under his watchful gaze, a small white figure dashed out.
Winnie was momentarily stunned. Upon closer inspection, he realized the white figure was a beautiful little white creature.
What is this? Is it a fox or a dog? But dogs don’t have so many tails, do they?
Looking at the several large white tails swaying behind the creature, Winnie pondered.
For some reason, this cute little creature looked familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before.
But where could he have seen it? In this world? That shouldn’t be the case.
As Winnie was contemplating, the heavy footsteps suddenly closed in, and several large crimson figures burst out of the bushes, violently breaking several tree trunks in the process.
What is this?…
Looking down at the creatures that were about three meters tall, with crimson skin, horns on their heads, and only rudimentary cloth armor covering their bodies, Winnie’s eyes widened.
Although he had mentally prepared himself, seeing demons for the first time was still somewhat hard to accept.
To put it bluntly, they were ugly, almost like relatives of goblins.
He then recalled the original game’s setting about demons: males were extremely ugly, while females were extremely beautiful, applicable to most demons except for a few.
Truly a setting befitting a yuri-themed game.
These should be a type of demon known as crimson demons.
Winnie’s expression turned somewhat odd.
The crimson demons that had emerged from the bushes surrounded the small white fox, seemingly having been chasing this beautiful creature.
Could this little white creature be some rare magical beast?
Even though ordinary human border guards couldn’t handle demons, human territory wasn’t a place they could come and go as they pleased.
There were risks involved.
If they provoked the Kingdom of Camella, sending a few Wrathful Dragon Knights would easily deal with these demons.
The original game didn’t provide a clear explanation for why these demons appeared in human territory.
But if these demons dared to risk entering human lands to capture a magical beast, it must be something significant.
But it couldn’t be too complicated, because if it were something truly powerful, they wouldn’t just send a few low level demons, a crimson demon chieftain would have come instead.
