The vast building now only had Winnie left in it, yet he felt unexpectedly relieved.

Waking up the next morning, his mood had significantly improved.

Perhaps it was because he had rediscovered a new direction in life, accumulating virtue, or as he jokingly called it, “stacking Q.”

He was getting a bit carried away with it.

To Winnie’s surprise, after he forcefully dismissed Dak, who was a spy for someone else, Dak actually left without any hesitation.

By the next day, there was no trace of him in the courtyard.

Winnie had expected Dak to cling on a bit longer, perhaps pretending to be oblivious, thinking that Winnie’s anger would subside after a few days, and the decision to fire him would be revoked.

Even though the Varelis family was in decline, they were still considered nobility.

The fact that Dak had risked coming here as a spy suggested that he had been promised significant rewards.

Before receiving those rewards, he wouldn’t easily give up.

Now, it seemed that Dak was quite sensible, or perhaps the person behind him had grown tired and no longer believed that Winnie, a small fry, could cause any trouble.

Thus, they simply dismissed the spy to avoid leaving any evidence.

Early in the morning, Winnie got up, walked down the creaky stairs, nibbled on some dark bread, and then left the courtyard without even bothering to lock the gate.

All his belongings were on him, and his home was so shabby that even a thief would shed tears upon seeing it and might leave a few copper coins out of pity.

So, he wasn’t worried about anyone breaking in.

However, he didn’t head straight to the church for prayers. Instead, he went back to the slums.

Despite the fact that giving away even a single copper coin was painful given his current savings, he was determined to explore all the mechanisms of the virtue system.

“Well, if it isn’t kind sir! You’re back again?” Coincidentally, he ran into the beggar he had previously given alms to.

The disheveled beggar was quite happy to see the young master, as other nobles would usually avoid him in disgust, let alone give him anything.

“Tsk, it’s you again?” Winnie raised an eyebrow, then took a copper coin from his pocket and tossed it to the beggar.

“I happen to have some spare change today. Take it, you dirty, smelly fellow.”

“Ah! You’re so generous!” The beggar’s eyes lit up as he quickly accepted the coin.

As the words ‘Virtue +1’ appeared in his vision, Winnie’s lips curled into a smile.

Just as he had expected.

It seemed like daily tasks in a game could be refreshed, and the virtue system worked the same way.

After giving alms and gaining virtue today, he could do it again tomorrow to earn more virtue, even if it was just one point at a time.

This was perfect.

The beggar was happy because he received alms, and Winnie was happy because he was stacking virtue.

Everyone had a bright future ahead.

His current virtue count was now 5.

Winnie then went to a general store, bought some candies, and headed to the orphanage to distribute them to the children.

He spent the afternoon playing with them.

“Hahaha!” Winnie couldn’t stop laughing as he watched his virtue points pile up, while playing with children deeply moved the orphanage director.

What a wonderful person! Even though he had previously said he wouldn’t come often, he was now here on another day, spending time and money on good deeds and still being so happy about it.

Truly a great philanthropist!

“Stupid big brother, you’re here again.”

“Little brat, I’m not here to play with you. Why are you sticking around?”

“Oh, I bet big brother lost so badly last time that he’s scared now,” the little boy pouted.

“Scared? You were the one who lost last time, you silly little brat. Looks like you didn’t learn your lesson from last time, huh?”

Giving out candies and playing with the children at the orphanage earned him another two virtue points, bringing his total to 7.

After lunch, Winnie left the church feeling satisfied.

Though tired, he felt like he had made a great profit.

Humming a tune as he walked away, shortly after, a stunning figure emerged from the main building of the orphanage.

A silver-haired girl, ethereal and otherworldly, appeared on the old street.

Her presence was like a fairy who had mistakenly wandered into the mortal world, creating a dreamlike contrast with reality.

She stood out vividly, as if she were the main character wherever she went.

Even though she was dressed casually today, wearing a uniform with a red plaid pleated skirt, her silver hair cascading down like a waterfall, tied in a princess braid with a large black bow at the back, and a violet gemstone near her skirt that matched her eye color, she still looked captivating.

Her black stockings reached her knees, paired with leather boots.

“Sister Aesphyra!” The children rushed to her, chattering excitedly.

She seemed to be very popular among them.

Her beautiful eyes, filled with a hint of amusement, glanced at the figure who had already walked far away.

A faint, almost imperceptible sharpness and depth flashed in her gaze, but then everything returned to normal as she bent down to look at the children.

“Did you have fun just now~?”

“It was okay. That big brother was too weak, so it wasn’t very exciting,” one of the children replied.

“Has that big brother been coming here often to play with you?” Aesphyra asked with a sincere smile.

Her pure, captivating expression was enough to make anyone, let alone children, open up to her without hesitation.

“No, he only started coming recently. He’s clumsy and his tone is pretty harsh, but he’s really patient when he plays with us,” the boy said, pouting.

“I see.”

“Lady Aesphyra,” the orphanage director approached at this moment.

The old man’s attitude toward Aesphyra was one of utmost respect, and for good reason.

This stunning silver-haired girl was a major benefactor of the orphanage, her contributions nearly matching those of the church itself.

“Beautiful and kind-hearted”—this phrase perfectly described Aesphyra.

The old director had once held some prejudices against nobles, believing them all to be arrogant and disdainful of commoners.

But now he knew better. You couldn’t generalize; among the nobility, there were people like Winnie and Aesphyra, who were full of goodwill toward others, though the former’s way of expressing it was a bit more awkward.

“Thank you for your trouble, Director. And thank you for preparing the tea and snacks,” Aesphyra said politely and gracefully.

“Please, it’s nothing. Without your support, I don’t know how we would have made it through this winter,” the old director replied with a warm smile, glancing at the children.

“It is I who should be thanking you.”

“It’s just a small gesture,” Aesphyra said with a dismissive smile.

“Until the goddess bestows her blessings, I entrust these children, who have been forsaken by fate, to your care.”

“That is my duty,” the director replied.

After chatting with the director for a while, Aesphyra left the orphanage.

She had been at the orphanage drinking tea long before Winnie arrived, so she had naturally witnessed everything that happened after he showed up.

It wasn’t his behavior that puzzled her, it was him.

These actions shouldn’t have come from that person.

That person, the demon who, in her past life, had joined the cultists, caused widespread devastation, and led to her own death.

Recalling what she had just seen, it was something he would never have done, not in her past life, nor in this one.

But what was the point of him putting on such an act?

Aesphyra narrowed her eyes.

She needed to keep an eye on this scoundrel and figure out what he was plotting. And besides…

She still had a score to settle with him from her past life~
