Chapter 26: The Three Elements of Kung Fu Basketball
What is going on here!?
Mugang Xian was filled with amazement; he found the turn of events to be too incredible. In fact, he began to wonder if he was dreaming.
To further hone his basketball skills, he became a disciple of the mysterious master, Master Wet Dream, and followed him into the world of Kung Fu Basketball. On their first day of training, the master took them to a nightclub for basketball practice. He started with a deep and mysterious theory that somehow pumped them up, then moved on to practical training. Until that point, everything felt normal… Well, Mugang Xian had to admit that since he had chosen Master Wet Dream as his coach, the story and atmosphere had become quite unusual.
But no matter how strange the story and atmosphere had become, the scene unfolding now left Mugang Xian in disbelief. The three of them wore masks like bank robbers, each holding a heavy bowling ball made of what seemed to be solid iron. Charging toward them was a group of tattooed gangsters wielding machetes and clubs, strong in stature and fiercer in expression; this was their basketball training.
How did things come to this? What even is Bloody Earth? Why did the old monk kick the door, shout out, and provoke the two nightclub bouncers, only for a crowd of dozens to stand up, as if they had disturbed a hornet’s nest, and attack them?
"Hey, Gorilla! Why are you dazed? If you want to live, swing your ball and smash all those enemies into pieces! Dunk the basketball, and let’s end them!"
Just as a gangster with a fire axe leaped forward, wanting to strike Mugang Xian down, the fierce old monk appeared out of nowhere, holding a basketball in his right hand. He swung it around and slammed it right into the gangster’s face.
Blood flowed from the nose and teeth scattered everywhere. With a loud bang, the thug fell to the ground and could not get up. Then the old monk picked up the basketball and shouted fiercely, "Eat old monk’s basketball attack! Cry out, scream, and then go to death for the old monk!"
The old monk swung the ball hard, hitting one thug in the chest and sending him flying three meters away. Then the old monk suddenly passed the ball, hitting another thug in the back, making him tumble away, while the basketball came back and was again in the old monk’s control.
Mugang Xian’s mind was clouded, but he couldn’t help but stare. At that moment, the old monk held a basketball in each hand, weaving through the crowd of thugs; there was no one who could challenge him. In the old monk’s hands, the basketball was no longer just a sports item, but a powerful weapon like a Meteor Hammer from ancient times, spreading a raw beauty of fierce violence.
"Disciples, now is the time to act for justice. Don’t be afraid, just go for it!"
"Master, we came to learn how to play basketball, not how to fight!" Gongcheng Liang’s shout suddenly woke Mugang Xian up. He realized that the old monk was incredibly powerful, defeating ten thugs without breaking a sweat, but they were not such fierce fighters.
"If you can’t even fight, how can you talk about playing basketball! Cut the nonsense! Disciples, remember the theory I just taught you. Besides the ball, oh no, besides the game, there is nothing else to consider. Only then can you seek the greatest path. Now grasp your balls and let’s wipe out this group of useless people! Show them what real basketball is!"
"I don’t know if they will know what real basketball is, but I sure don’t know what it is anymore!" Mugong Yan shouted, as the thugs rushed in like a tide, swinging their weapons mercilessly. He dodged left and right, running around, finding it extremely difficult.
"Yes, run! Move! One of the basics of basketball is running. The second point is to be fierce when you shoot. If you don’t shoot, then don’t hesitate; you must break others’ balls, oh no, break others’ lives! And the last point is to have a fierce mindset. Don’t be afraid of getting hurt; be willing to take risks and dare to bring the emperor down. These are the three basic elements of basketball!"
"Coach, I feel like your Way of Basketball is quite different from real basketball!" Mugang Xian shouted, suddenly swinging his hand, hitting a thug with a bowling ball, causing him to stumble back and fall to the ground.
At a height of nearly two meters, Mugang Xian possesses the body of an athlete shaped by strict, even harsh training. With just a slight change in mindset, he could easily become a fierce fighting machine. While others wield knives and clubs, Mugang Xian, who wishes to live a full life, knows that his only choice is to resist.
Bai Qige occasionally turned his head and saw the three of them getting involved in the fight. A wicked smile spread across his face, accompanied by an indescribable sense of evil.
"That’s right! You are isolated and helpless, surrounded by enemies. Life and death are at stake. The only thing you can rely on is yourself and the ball in your hands. You either fight your way out with the ball or perish where you stand. There are no other options. Make your choice, strive for it! The journey is never smooth; between life and death lies great terror but also great magnificence! Hahaha!"
Bai Qige laughed wildly without regard for anyone else, while Mugang Xian and the others could no longer hear him. They swung their bowling balls with such force that the air seemed to tremble, desperately trying to survive the onslaught of the gangsters. After a moment, Bai Qige felt it was enough; if this continued, the three of them might be cut down by random blows. He tossed a basketball forcefully into the bar, but the ball, flying with tremendous speed, was suddenly stopped by a single finger.
"Amitabha! You are Bi Fulin, the Mind-Dancing Maniac among the Bloody Earth Seven Holy Spirits, aren’t you?"
"Stop!" The man suddenly shouted. His voice was not loud, but it carried a sense of authority, causing the gangsters to halt immediately.
Bi Fulin appeared to be around twenty-five or twenty-six years old, unremarkable in looks, dressed in a black coat. With a drink in his left hand and a finger pressing against the basketball, the ball spun wildly on his finger. He looked at Bai Qige and coldly said, "Who are you? Don’t you know today is a gathering day for us at Bloody Earth? To come here and create trouble at such a time is truly reckless!"
Bai Qige had spies hidden within Bloody Earth, so he knew a superpower leader was bringing grassroots thugs to dinner today; he came here for that very reason.
"I am the current abbot of Lanruo Temple. I have heard that you in Bloody Earth often do evil deeds, bullying the weak. I have come here today to uphold justice!"
"Hmph, you foolish people, do you think we are still in ancient times? Now, we must follow the law. Do you believe I can call the police and report you for attacking innocent people and destroying property? I could make you lose everything and spend the rest of your life in jail! And just because there are a few of you, do you really think you can take on a hundred? So ignorant and foolish!"
If it weren’t for their different status, Bai Qige would really want to give Bi Fulin a thumbs up. As a leader of Bloody Earth, he surprisingly has some sense and understands how to use the law and numbers to intimidate others. This is quite rare; with examples like Mountain Fox’s son and Gu Shigui, Bai Qige thought the people of Bloody Earth had lost all their intelligence.
"But still, solving this problem with you who dare to challenge Bloody Earth’s authority so easily isn’t satisfying enough. Hehe, today I will make you suffer greatly. Now, step aside; you are not allowed to fight. I want to face them one by one!"
