Chapter 48
Arnold walked down the corridor leading to the central area of Krypton Star, which controlled everything, heading towards the special laboratory newly established according to Dr. Carter’s description.
After the reminder sound, the door in front of Arnold opened with a message saying, "[Appointment detected, welcome General Arnold]."
The level of secrecy and protection inside was clearly higher than outside, and the entire laboratory seemed to be made of the latest materials.
However, thinking about the boring projects conducted here and the lab being empty almost all year round, Arnold felt that it was a waste of resources.
But apparently, not everyone shared his thoughts.
Carter, with his unique and rich expressions, approached Arnold saying, "It’s finally your turn!"
Unlike Carter’s excitement, Arnold’s eyes and demeanor revealed a strong sense of aloofness.
Carter shrugged helplessly, "You were already on the list of candidates for selecting Blue Star people’s pets last time. You used the busy war situation as an excuse to avoid it. But this time, there’s no excuse. The core members of our research group all voted for you to join this experiment."
Upon hearing this, Arnold gave Carter a cold glance.
Nevertheless, Carter was confident and led Arnold forward, "Of course, I was the first one to vote in favor. As the chief specialist under your command, I cannot miss such a good observation opportunity. Furthermore, as a researcher for the Kurds’ emotion-stimulating project, I have a great interest in conducting this experiment on someone who currently has minimal emotional attachment and perception among the Kurds."
"And, as one of the least emotionally attached individuals among the Kurds at this stage, being able to conduct this experiment is of great interest to me in itself." "You are a sample yourself," Arnold pointed out his other research identity.
"This is another important reason why I recommended you. Our Minli at home is so good, she is the most lovely and beautiful creature I have ever seen!"
Arnold responded, "That’s just your opinion."
Carter retorted, "It’s my conclusion as a biologist."
Even Arnold, who was known for his lack of emotions according to data, could clearly sense the changes in Carter over these five years.
However, this still failed to arouse even the slightest interest from Arnold.
He is doing well now, as long as he continues to keep it up in the future, that’s all that matters.
Blue Star people’s pets? It’s truly an unnecessary and pointless experiment.
Thinking about the meaningless and troublesome communication he might have to face later, Arnold couldn’t help but furrow his eyebrows slightly.
Looking at the experiment gate he had already reached, he once again confirmed to Carter, "If I show no reaction to the genetic information of the Blue Star people’s pet you selected this time, theoretically my Blue Star people application should be revoked."
"You won’t be able to resist."
Saying this, Carter opened the deepest gate, revealing a laboratory with even higher security measures inside.
"This room uses protection measures that the military has not yet disclosed, even capable of protecting against Kurds," Carter explained, "However, our Kurdish people can’t help but destroy it."
He exaggeratedly shrugged, "This place has been renovated three times already. I’ve damaged it once, but the most serious time was when General Shelley came to test it."
Arnold disagreed. He was confident that he would never act as irrationally as someone like General Shelley.
"Take out the pheromones you selected, I need to make a trip back to the military headquarters after finishing the experiment."
Getting to the point, Carter’s eyes lit up immediately. He quickly walked to the wall and pressed a button, causing two display columns to rise from the ground.
"These are the ones I picked for you this time. These two vials contain pheromones extracted based on the genetics of the Blue Star people."
Carter first remotely opened the pheromones on the left, saying, "This one only matches 45% of the genetics of the Blue Star people."
Upon smelling the scent spreading in the air, Arnold’s eyes instantly turned from purple to red, and his muscles tensed up.
Unable to control his desire to move forward, he left footprints on the highly protected indoor floor with each step he took.
"Arnold, hang in there." Carter, breaking character, encouraged him to persevere.
But Arnold couldn’t hear any words at this point, panting heavily and his eyes bloodshot. At this moment, he was simply walking on instinct.
The further he walked, the stronger the allure of the pheromones became to him.
When Arnold reached the podium and grasped the crystal emitting pheromones, making it temporarily lose its scent, he finally regained brief clarity.
At that moment, Carter approached him and said, "Let it go, we need to continue our training. Also, change your arm back."
With Arnold’s eyes blazing red and full of determination, even Carter, who had been with him since childhood, was momentarily stunned in place.
"No, Arnold," Carter finally realized, "You must adapt to it, don’t let it control you!"
Arnold, temporarily regaining his rationality, began to focus again. He looked at his right hand, which had partly transformed from grabbing the crystal.
This isn’t me!
He wouldn’t compromise his dignity for a third-level civilization’s pheromones.
With strong willpower, he gradually learned to adapt.
"Well done, only three interstellar hours and you’re already adapting to this level of pheromones. Truly impressive, Arnold, hahaha…" Although he said that, Carter clearly hadn’t forgotten Arnold’s previous "grandiose vow" and continued to mercilessly mock him.
On the side, Arnold was not bothered by him, he closed his eyes and after a moment, he transformed his beastly hand back into a human-like state.
"There’s one more." Arnold opened his eyes and immediately locked his gaze on another covered pheromone.
It had been a long time since Arnold had tasted the feeling of being challenged, almost defeated, which made him eager to try.
"The one before was just a precaution I selected for you. But this one, is the main event of today." Carter glanced at the pheromone, excitement mixed with uncertainty in his tone, "It’s a pleasant surprise, at the top of the Blue Star people list, I found a gene that matches yours by over ninety percent.
However, its attraction to you is not just double the forty-five percent from before. Their attraction increases exponentially." Oh, is that so?
Arnold calmly gazed at the box enveloping the pheromone, "Open it."
In fact, after the previous experiment, he had learned some ways to resist this type of pheromone.
With a ‘drip,’ the over ninety percent matching pheromone was opened.
Instantly, a pheromone unlike anything before surged towards Arnold. His mind didn’t even have time to come up with a way to respond, it turned into a blank canvas.
The whole person almost instantly turned into a beast!
With a loud bang, the laboratory immediately underwent the biggest instantaneous destruction in history.
In a pile of debris, a male insect named Arnold lay motionless under the rubble, completely disoriented.
Even though it was acting without distinguishing right from wrong, it still firmly held the pheromone in its mouth.
It took Carter nearly three days to clean up the mess. Then, relying on years of experience in injecting drugs, he forcibly transformed Arnold back into a human-like form.
Only after forcefully injecting ten doses of sedatives did Arnold show some basic stress responses.
Despite feeling exhausted, Carter watched with great interest as Arnold slowly recovered on the screen in the makeshift laboratory.
"Finally, Arnold got his comeuppance…" This was an extra story that had been thought of from the beginning, telling a bit of a story before the two met.
