Chapter 4
Arnold had long dealt with the affairs of his territory and the empire.
He is now sitting in the office area, emotionlessly watching the pet dressing on the projection. He found that after a brief improvement in the nutrient pod, just looking at the hologram, he could barely suppress his emotions.
He picked up the book "How to Care for Small Pets" he bought half an hour ago and opened it.
[Whether it’s slime, creepy crawlers, or soft bone rabbits from interstellar, a smile is the first step to treating small pets kindly.]
A smile?
Although Arnold had never put on a smile, he was not unfamiliar with it.
It’s an expression that lacks efficiency.
When representing the Kurds at some interstellar social events, unlike speaking directly to the point like he did, other races always start their conversations with some irrelevant small talk, followed by those unnecessary smiles as decoration.
It’s surprising that even fake smiles can communicate friendliness to pets.
Based on his memory recall, although the laughter of the alien races he had encountered varied, the wider the curve of the lips and the more visible the exposed area in the mouth, the more apparent the sense of humor identified by 1086.
As his thoughts turned, a real-time 3D projection of him instantly appeared fifty centimeters in front of Arnold, who was facing it. Watching his mirrored self, he manipulated his facial muscles and effortlessly produced a smile that was detected as 100% genuine.
However, that’s all there was to it.
"[Currently detecting high hunger level in Blue Star people’s pet, main course has been distributed according to the menu.] "Hmm." Saying this, Arnold left the office area and headed straight for Pet Warehouse.
Fu Yue was sitting cross-legged on the floor, slurping her noodles happily when the door of Pet Warehouse opened.
The robot she had crossed paths with before was now standing in its old position, staring at her intently.
Having a handsome man appear during mealtime was a visual delight for Fu Yue, despite knowing he was a robot, especially for someone like her, who was single since birth.
So she was eating instant noodles while watching the robot with great interest.
Although the experience in the nutrition pod earlier made her feel very comfortable all over, Fu Yue remained cautious as the pod was supposed to be an alien creature’s assistant, and she enjoyed her instant noodles while being alert.
"Swish~" Standing outside the glass door, Arnold’s eyes slightly narrowed, watching the Blue Star people who were staring at him.
The Blue Star people’s pets were eating normally, their physiological states scanned… normal.
Very good.
Although there was no 3D projection assistance now, Arnold knew that the excellent Kurds had extraordinary muscle memory.
Recalling the recent practice, a 100% perfect smile appeared on his face.
The world stood still for three seconds.
"Clang~ Clang~" This was the sound of the porcelain bowl in Fu Yue’s hand being knocked over and spinning on the ground.
Fu Yue was so scared that she broke out in a cold sweat and curled up against the wall in fear, unable to even scream.
Arnold furrowed his brows slightly and then grinned even wider.
[Warning! The pet fear level of Blue Star people has exceeded the critical range. Please take necessary actions to ensure the mental well-being of Blue Star people.]
Fu Yue was absolutely terrified!
Admiring the mixed-race handsome man, she had imagined a CEO’s cross-border love story. Who would have thought that Jack would turn into Hannibal in an instant!
Its face split open from the corners of its mouth to its ears, revealing all the muscles, tissues, and bones inside the opened skin. This allowed people facing it to see its internal structure completely.
Fu Yue swore that this was the scariest scene she had ever witnessed in her life!
She had just arrived, and now she was about to be eaten? Or eaten by a robot!?
Nervously watching the robot across from her, Fu Yue ran to the vicinity of the nutrient tank and then squeezed inside.
Wait, in case a robot comes in, she can close the nutrient tank and try to stop the wave.
After a moment, Fu Yue nervously peeked out and stared at the movements on the opposite side.
But soon, the robot closed its huge mouth and returned to its peaceful appearance. After staring at her with its red eyes for a while, it turned around and left.
Isn’t it coming to eat her?
[There is currently a routine military patrol, and you are needed to depart now to the Second Military Zone of Junyao Star.]
Arnold paused in the corridor for a moment, and when he opened his eyes, his pupils had turned back to purple. He took out the book he had just bought, "How to Care for Small Pets," and casually threw it into the temporary trash bin that appeared on the wall.
"Prepare the spaceship."
It was only after the robot left that Fu Yue finally regained her senses.
Then she looked at the instant noodles on the ground with deep regret. Getting startled was already unfortunate, but losing the meal was the unbearable pain in life.
Besides, she only took a few bites.
After the shock, a mix of embarrassment and anger at losing her meal bowl made Fu Yue storm towards the glass door for a release. Checking the door, it remained unmoved, and there was still no sign of anyone returning. She instantly felt relieved and began to curse loudly.
Over the past few rounds, Fu Yue had spent a lot of energy.
So frustrating, and feeling even hungrier!
Hunger drove Fu Yue to take action; she walked to the wall and pressed a button on the display screen that she hadn’t tried before, ready to test her luck.
Suddenly, a table flipped down from the wall below the words "display screen," along with a chair provided for her.
Then, the table lit up, and above it appeared a 3D half-body figure of a beautiful woman with long wavy hair. The woman’s bright eyes and white teeth, along with her bright red clothing, made her look exceptionally lively.
With a face full of delight, she waved at Fu Yue, giving her a feeling like when your internet connection finally works at home.
As the one of the two who was confused, Fu Yue was first introduced to a 3D video call and then figured out the general usage of this table (display screen).
As a mature person, Fu Yue politely thanked, "Thank you for explaining patiently, Miss. How should I address you?"
The beauty couldn’t help but laugh at Fu Yue’s serious demeanor, "My name is Zhang Minli, you can call me Minli. I was one of the first chosen five years ago. You must be one of the new arrivals this time."
The batch chosen five years ago!
Fu Yue’s eyes sparkled.
Knowing that the Blue Star people chosen five years ago were still lively and well, was a great joy for her now.
Thank goodness, it seems Kurds don’t intend to harm them!
Zhang Minli understood Fu Yue’s expression instantly, "Were you scared by the pictures in the brochure? I remember when I first arrived, I was so scared that I couldn’t eat or sleep well every day, fearing that I would be caught and eaten. Looking back now, misinformation can really mess with your mind!"
Fu Yue, "???" Do they not look like that in reality?
"Although I’ve only glimpsed them once by chance, but their true form should match the images in the brochure." Seeing Fu Yue’s puzzled expression, Zhang Minli patiently explained.
The main person? She seemed to have an idea of what would happen next.
"But they are humanoid creatures too, most of the time they actually look like us through shapeshifting," said Zhang Minli as she took out a small book-sized LCD screen and searched for something she wanted.
Zhang Minli swiped up on the screen and a 3D mini human model appeared in front of Fu Yue. His appearance was familiar to Fu Yue, the robot who had just acted in a horror reality show for her.
"This is Arnold, the Kurds who adopted you. He is one of the most powerful generals in the Star Domain, Krypton Star. I can communicate with you through 3D calls because Carter is in charge of biological work on his territory, so we are quite close."
Seeing Fu Yue still looking bewildered, Zhang Minli, taking a cue from Carter, comforted her, "Don’t worry too much. Even though Kurds may seem dull, they are strong in combat. And this time, you are matched with a general, so as long as you maintain a good relationship, you can move through the galaxy freely."
"Adopt?" Fu Yue’s mind was a mess, and she finally grasped the keyword after some effort.
"Exactly," Zhang Minli fluffed her hair nonchalantly, revealing the true purpose of this "visit." "Our aim in coming here is to be their pets."
Compared to her earlier guesses of the tourism and catering industries, hearing that she would finally settle into the service industry, Fu Yue surprisingly breathed a sigh of relief.
Although being a pet sounded disrespectful, after working hard for so many years in the design industry, Fu Yue had envied countless times the simple life of cats and dogs that only needed to eat, sleep, and could show displeasure directly to people.
She quickly asked again, "So… do we, Blue Star people, still have a chance to go back?"
This question is very important.
"Go back?" Zhang Minli obviously hadn’t thought about this before. "Not sure… but soon, you might also feel that staying here is better."
With Zhang Minli’s detailed explanation, she learned that they couldn’t be called normal Blue Star people anymore. Due to the improvements the nutrient chamber made to their bodies, now each person’s body wasn’t entirely Blue Star anymore.
"Even if we return to Blue Star, we might be caught and used for research like guinea pigs, after all, who doesn’t want to live longer?" Zhang Minli added, resting her chin on her hand.
Fu Yue, who had used the nutrient chamber, also understood its magic. She hadn’t expected that the chamber could still transform their bodies afterwards.
She nodded in amazement, "It not only changes the body, but after I woke up, I could suddenly understand the words here!"
"This isn’t thanks to the nutrient chamber." This time, Zhang Minli waved her hand, and a chip appeared on the liquid crystal display. "It’s because a chip is implanted in the back of our heads, think of it as a combination of identity verification and a phone. Besides preventing us from revealing information about the Kurds, it doesn’t restrict us in any other way."
Fu Yue humbly sought advice from Zhang Minli.
Zhang Minli really liked the new pretty girl who moved in, and since Fu Yue was her long-wished "neighbor", she eagerly shared all she knew with Fu Yue.
But they also faced challenges due to limited teaching space.
Zhang Minli frowned, adjusted the scale of the 3D projection, and finally found Fu Yue at the Pet Warehouse. That’s why she couldn’t do the long-distance projection just now. However… "Pet Warehouse… when I first came here, I stayed here too!"
Huh? Aren’t pets always staying at the Pet Warehouse?
Fu Yue followed suit, adjusted the projection, and then saw that Zhang Minli was in a huge living room. The living room looked cozy and luxurious. Zhang Minli was comfortably seated on the sofa, chatting with her.
A comparison of classes. Looking at the superior living environment across from her and her current window display career, Fu Yue immediately understood the difference between the excellent staff next door and the newly hired intern.
It’s okay, stay strong! Fu Yue cheered herself on, believing that she could still rely on working hard and climbing up! After all, being a top-notch party B for three consecutive years was not in vain!
Perhaps not noticing the blazing determination in Fu Yue’s eyes, Zhang Minli added more fuel to the fire.
She looked embarrassed as she glanced at her living room and added, "I decorated this place, there’s plenty in my account, so I just bought some things casually."
These days, can you actually get paid to take care of pets?!
Looking at the spacious and comfortable living room across the street, if she continued to work as a dog designer in the capital for another 20 years, she still wouldn’t be able to afford a house half the size of the one across the street!
In response, Fu Yue could only say, "Sister, you are the ceiling of the pet industry, a role model for us to learn from."
Since this goal seemed too fantastical, after hanging up the phone, Fu Yue decided to lower her strategic goals first. The first thing to do should be to ensure that she could stay here as a pet for a long time, and then consider improving her job conditions appropriately.
With her thoughts nearly sorted out, Fu Yue began using the new display screen she had learned to operate, replacing the piece of floor that was dirtied by instant noodles. Although her stomach was now numb from hunger, for the sake of her health, she still opened the Blue Star People food menu.
