Chapter 23
Ever since the little incident involving a kidnapping case last time, although there was a big uproar outside because of Arnold’s subsequent actions.
But he himself and Fu Yue quickly returned to their usual routines in the white house.
Although they appeared to have completely returned to their previous state, something seemed a bit off as well.
It was already lunchtime, and Fu Yue was sitting on the sofa, eating dumplings. The monitor on her lap was playing a funny video she had been watching recently, but her mind was clearly elsewhere.
Even the chopsticks she used for eating were temporarily placed on the bowl.
Because today, her boss Arnold unexpectedly appeared in the living room during lunchtime.
You see, even though there were only two people living in the white house, it was equipped with everything needed, including a very formal dining area.
And her boss is someone who always eats at the dining area with such precision every meal.
But Fu Yue didn’t feel as nervous and powerless as before when facing Arnold, as if she was about to take a big test at the office.
So, Fu Yue picked up the chopsticks placed aside and glanced at her boss beside her.
After the kidnapping incident, Fu Yue did have a slightly different perspective on her boss, even if it was just a tiny bit.
The reason being, after a long period of intense and efficient interaction, Fu Yue discovered that Arnold always had an expressionless face, a cold and flat voice, an arrogant attitude, always getting straight to the point without any unnecessary words, and many other hard-to-describe aspects.
Fu Yue used to categorize all of them as "Arnold’s behavior."
But!
Ironically, in this kidnapping event, Fu Yue was somewhat saved by the very "Arnold’s behavior" that she always disliked.
Furthermore, she also had to admit that after the recent intense and dense interactions, Arnold didn’t seem as hopeless as he appeared.
Even at important times, he would say a few comforting words to his employees.
The most important thing was that when she was kidnapped, the boss’s obvious care for the employees through a series of actions and concerns for her safety made Fu Yue feel that her boss was not as cold-hearted as she had imagined.
As Fu Yue picked at the dumplings in her bowl, she felt a hint of embarrassment in her heart. Looking back now, she realized that she may have been looking at her employer through colored glasses in many ways.
Stirred by this feeling of embarrassment, Fu Yue immediately felt that there might have been some misunderstandings in the past.
Looking up, she saw Arnold quietly eating a pile of meat that was half as tall as she was, making him seem so friendly and approachable.
So in this atmosphere, Fu Yue spoke up, "General, what’s for lunch?"
Arnold glanced at Fu Yue and paused his eating. The Krud people had large appetites, so all the education he had received in military school taught him to eat efficiently. Not talking was an important requirement.
He glanced at the scarce food designated for the Blue Star people. If it wasn’t for their resource-based dining system, he would even suspect that their food rations had been specially reduced.
With so little food, it was no wonder that the Blue Star people could still have discussions while eating.
He should educate her well and not easily speak out during meals.
So Arnold looked into Fu Yue’s eyes and said, "This is Haoyi beef, a new variety that was recently introduced."
But for some reason, after saying this, Fu Yue felt that Arnold fell into silence.
To lighten the awkward atmosphere, Fu Yue blurted out, "My dumplings are also delicious, General, would you like to try them?"
After saying that, Fu Yue regretted it. She realized it was a silly suggestion, and Arnold wouldn’t… "Sure."
Fu Yue, "???" General, if you’re being kidnapped, just blink your eyes.
He actually wanted to eat his own lunch? No way… But since it was already suggested, Fu Yue simply placed the bowl in front of Arnold. Fortunately, she hadn’t used chopsticks before.
Arnold held the bowl and then shifted his gaze to the small plate left on Fu Yue’s side.
"Oh…" Fu Yue quickly brought over the condiments, "This is vinegar and chili, you can dip these Shaxian dumplings in these sauces."
Fu Yue took out a pair of chopsticks and showed how to dip dumplings in sauce.
Arnold watched Fu Yue’s actions and tried to use the chopsticks too. But he found it difficult, and accidentally broke a dumpling.
Seeing his pet still demonstrating how to eat dumplings, he quickly put his chopsticks away and grabbed his own shape-shifting utensil from the table in a swift motion that Fu Yue couldn’t see.
He commanded the utensil to turn into chopsticks and automatically pick up a dumpling. When Fu Yue looked over, he had already dipped it in sauce, just like she did.
"General Arnold looks so skilled using chopsticks for the first time!" the little pet praised.
"It’s simple," Arnold said as he chewed the strange white food.
"How is it?" Fu Yue nervously asked, unsure if Kurds would have similar tastes to Blue Star people.
Arnold didn’t answer, but quietly swallowed the food.
Is it not tasty at all?
Fu Yue thought to herself and started to apologize, "I’m sorry General, for giving you food that doesn’t suit your taste."
Fu Yue reached out her hand to take back her lunch and leave.
Unexpectedly, Arnold’s hand moved slightly, preventing Fu Yue from taking back her lunch, and asked, "Is this food called dumplings?"
Fu Yue, "Yes."
Arnold looked at the food in the bowl and said, "This is very delicious."
Thankfully, everything went well. Fu Yue breathed a sigh of relief, "If you like it, you can have this portion." Since the place for ordering food was always open, she could just order another one for herself.
She casually opened the menu for delivery, found dumplings under the Shaxian category, and pressed send.
However, the feedback she received next was unexpectedly, "This item is out of stock today."
Fu Yue found this strange, but without much thought, she went to another category of snacks to look for dumplings.
[The food is sold out today.]
Fu Yue, "???" Oh well, she will have noodles for lunch today.
After ordering the noodles, Fu Yue waited for about five minutes for her food to arrive. During this time, she watched Arnold finish the dumplings she had just given him, and then he got up and left.
In less than a minute, Arnold came back with new food.
There were five large bowls filled with a variety of dumplings, including all the types listed on the Blue Star people’s food menu. They also came with various toppings such as chili powder, hot sauce, and vinegar.
Fu Yue, "…" No wonder she couldn’t order dumplings, that’s why she could only eat one dumpling today.
Arnold was not unreasonable. Before eating, he still asked Fu Yue if she wanted some.
"It’s fine, General, as long as you think it’s delicious." Fu Yue smiled in agreement, expressing her opinion, "And I ordered noodles to eat."
"Noodles?" Arnold, being sharp, immediately caught on to the key point.
Fu Yue, "This is also a type of food that the Blue Star people eat. It will be here soon, and then you can see it too."
"Hmm."
Arnold did as he promised. When the food arrived in front of Fu Yue, he quickly and gracefully ate the dumplings at a frightening speed, while also glancing at the noodles in Fu Yue’s hands from time to time.
As expected, by nightfall, Fu Yue noticed that the noodles were missing from the Blue Star people’s menu again.
For the following week, Arnold kept track of Fu Yue’s menu. He tried everything on the Blue Star people’s menu, even the fruits, and bought them all out one by one.
After finishing a round of eating, Arnold remarked, "The food from your Blue Star is delicious, but there’s just too little variety." In just a week, he had tried every single item available.
"It must be because you have such a big appetite. You can finish all the varieties of bubble tea without a change in expression, and still eat half a pound of Hoybeef afterwards," Fu Yue pointed out.
A week later, Fu Yue seriously doubted that Arnold’s abs were real and not drawn on!
However, she corrected Arnold’s misconception, "There are actually many more types of food among us Blue Star people. It’s just that our chances to try new products are very limited. I heard it only happens once every two years."
Next, Fu Yue explained to Arnold about some delicious food on Blue Star.
After finishing, she sighed, "It’s no use talking about it, I can’t eat it anyway."
Arnold remained silent after listening.
As a result, the next day, she received a file with food options for a new food selection project.
Isn’t this a great opportunity to improve meals! Fu Yue racked her brains, filled in what she wanted to eat the most, then proudly tapped the screen and sent it off.
Later, she received a holographic communication from Zhang Minli, and the two of them excitedly discussed the topic.
Fu Yue, "No one will guess what food I chose this time!"
Zhang Minli, "Agreed. Let’s do it together!"
"Mai-X-Law" "Ken-X-Key" Fu Yue, "……" Zhang Minli, "……" The two of them looked at each other in silence for a moment.
In the end, Fu Yue nervously broke the silence and said, "It’s okay… maybe other Blue Star people have chosen differently from us…" Zhang Minli replied, "That’s true, haha…" Their laughter became strained, then suddenly stopped. Zhang Minli realized, "I should go see what everyone else has chosen first, just in case we’ve picked the same thing again!"
Two weeks later, Fu Yue was delighted to see familiar menu items like instant noodles, street snacks, bubble tea, and fruits. Alongside these were new items such as a variety of fried burgers.
