Chapter 99: This Chapter Describes a True Feast
“I… must… go see him!”
“But before that… I must… I must reclaim the Powers!”
“At least, some of the Powers must be reclaimed!”
In the world of Valaharl, two invisible forces clashed against each other.
It was a battle between the Will of the World and the Will of Subspace!
Though the outer Fantasy Tree root systems had been removed, Subspace still usurped the world’s "Powers"; the freed Will of the World could only muster strength to resist Subspace’s evil, violent will.
Yet despite the uprooting of Subspace’s roots—even the collapse of a main trunk—small remnants lingered elsewhere. Moreover, countless demons still roamed Valaharl.
Their violent, cruel, destructive wills collided and echoed within Valaharl, spawning terrifying energy storms. This allowed certain chaos councilors’ wills to manifest there.
Such as Ralekin, the Fourteenth Seat of the chaos councilors, who orchestrated this world’s "Time of the End." He caused every Order deity to fall and drove Fantasy Tree roots deep into Valaharl.
“I respect your resistance, my lady.”
“And admire your fortune.”
“The Star-Eater Plutonium Dragons went mad, mindlessly tearing out the Fantasy Tree roots I’d painstakingly planted. This granted you temporary relief and a sliver of freedom.”
“But… surely you didn’t believe we chaos deities lack contingencies?”
“Four modified lower demon gods already penetrated the seabed and strata. They act as safeguards.”
The Fantasy Tree roots functioned like leg irons; these "modified lower demon gods" served as handcuffs.
Only by shattering both could Valaharl taste true freedom!
At least enough to seek that "Giant God."
Yet achieving this proved far from simple!
“I know your mortal subjects are advanced, even crafting heavy mechs rivaling Hell Battleships.”
“They located one modified demon god.”
“Unfortunately, their arrogant assault already failed.”
“So I advise you: abandon futile resistance. Quietly savor this final freedom.”
“Once the Plutonium Dragons fall, we’ll reclaim what’s ours…”
“Urk…”
Screams and howls within Ralekin’s soul cut him short!
One "modified demon god" he’d placed on the seabed was begging for aid!
—-
“Haaah… hisss…”
Amidst shattered debris, the masked pilot drifted helplessly underwater.
His respirator emitted steady sounds, but the long intervals carried unmistakable frustration.
Beside him floated a giant mech—forged from massive specialty steel.
Large, resembling a giant spider.
But compared to a real spider, its jointed legs appeared too long and thin, making its body seem small.
Yet this was precisely its design feature.
For demon gods, mortal magic attacks were often limited by "rules," reducing their effectiveness; only when deities used magic against deities could magic’s true power emerge.
To counter this weakness, the Valaharl people’s "giant mechs for battling demon gods" were often specialized for close combat.
Each slender limb had powerful hydraulic drives, delivering strong blows; the modular design proved brilliant, allowing quick replacement of damaged legs mid-battle.
Making the core power system, cockpit, and observation equipment compact and integrated protected these irreplaceable components.
But…
The grappling limbs used for combat and movement lay shattered across the seabed; the core within the giant legs had been violently torn apart!
This tragic fate wasn’t unique to one spider-like mech.
Before a vast continental shelf cave, seven or eight giant mech wrecks lay scattered.
The Valaharl people’s ultimate trump card—their highest civilization’s pinnacle—had suffered terrible defeat against the fearsome Chaos Demon God.
Their attempt to save this world had failed again.
"Huff… hiss…"
"Huff… hiss… huff…"
The pilot’s breathing quickened as he slowly looked up, seeing the destroyer of his mighty mech.
"Roar!"
An eel-like creature with terrifying mouthparts roared savagely above him.
Its file-like teeth had shattered the limbs moments before; though massive, it moved with unnatural agility. Stitch marks covered its body, hinting at grotesque modifications.
The Chaos Demon God swayed its colossal form, drifting over the ruined mechs.
"Roar!"
It bellowed triumphantly, as if the battle hadn’t sated its bloodlust.
"Boom—boom—boom!"
Twisting violently, it coiled around a spider-like mech’s wreckage!
"Buzz—!"
"Creeeak—!"
Its crushing grip compacted the giant mech into scrap, snapping remaining steel limbs one by one.
Still unsatisfied, the terrifying demon god…
"Hiss…"
Secreted sticky threads, binding the mangled mech into a ball before hurling it—"Bang!"—against another wreck.
These threads had immobilized many mechs during combat.
"Boom—!"
The mechs collided, causing huge vibrations. Their "long legs" tangled together as they fell, crushing an underwater hill!
Countless tiny figures drifting in the sea were swept up by the chaos evil god’s sudden cruelty. Caught in violent whirlpools and currents, they crashed one after another against floating metal parts, snapping arms and necks…
“Aaaaargh!”
Just as the chaos deity laughed triumphantly and continued its rampage…
“Boom…”
An enormous shadow loomed overhead.
“Grr?”
The dragon-like Chaos Demon God looked up. Seeing the massive creature blocking the sky, he instantly coiled into a ball, fear gripping his heart!
Yet the Chaos Demon God remained the Chaos Demon God. After only a split second’s hesitation, he turned and plunged into the City of Dimensions.
“Huff…”
Unbeknownst to him, fleeing the City of Dimensions might have spared him. But choosing to hide inside it…
That creature was coming precisely for his City of Dimensions!
—-
What terrified the Valaharl people was, to Trilobite…
“Not bad, not bad.”
“This is a hagfish!”
“Ah, several dead sea spiders around too.”
“No great loss though.”
“Sea spiders are barely meaty, and already dead—I don’t eat corpses.”
Hagfish belong to the jawless class, an ancient branch of chordates that split early from jawed vertebrates. They’re remarkably tenacious survivors.
This also means they lack the hard bones of most vertebrates. Their bodies consist of V-shaped muscles with a soft notochord running through.
So despite possessing sanity-shattering mouthparts and a revoltingly slimy appearance, they taste…
Decapitate, skin, and roast one over flames—the meat becomes springy, the cartilage crisply delicious, far surpassing any bone-in meat!
“Excellent! Prime prey right here, and it’s hogging a cave!”
“Sorry then, no mercy for you!”
“Swish… swish…”
Trilobite’s fin limbs propelled him toward the hagfish’s den.
“Thud!”
He halted near the cave entrance, massive paws fiercely scrabbling at its mouth.
“Squelch! Squelch!”
The panicked hagfish expelled clouds of fibrous slime.
Utterly useless.
“Chomp—!”
Trilobite’s jaws clamped onto the hagfish’s head, yanking its slender body out in one motion.
“Whomp! Whomp! Whomp!”
His massive head whipped violently.
Soon, the hagfish went limp.
“Om nom… om nom…”
“Perfect. Arrived to find good eats and a ready-made home.”
Just as Trilobite reveled in his triumph…
【Thank you…】
A faint voice whispered in his mind.
【But you overlooked something.】
