Chapter 81: Severing the Root Systems in Subspace!
Trilobite felt a bit restless.
He could no longer hear the voice of the proud System Lady, and he missed it.
"It looked like I had really left the service area."
"Fortunately, the mall system was still operational."
"All I could do now was find something to eat to ease my mind."
Trilobite had a habit of munching on snacks when he felt down.
Things like chili or fried soybeans.
"But there seemed to be nothing in the sludge around here."
"Wait!"
Just as Trilobite felt gloomy about not finding any snacks, his Lorentz Jar excitedly "alerted" him.
The spot it locked onto was not far away, even right at the tip of his nose.
"Wow…"
It was a root that had just poked out from the upper wall of the "corridor" and hung down.
"Isn’t this a plant?"
"How could the Lorentz Jar sense a plant…"
"Wait, not necessarily!"
"This root was a bit thick, maybe… as thick as a human finger?"
"Even though my ‘young lady Trilobite’ couldn’t crawl in there, those small Trilobites could still fit inside."
"And…"
Trilobite studied the root system closely. It did look like early vascular plants, such as the roots of water ferns; very basic, without a proper phloem.
But this root had unnatural "hyperplasia," like it was twisted and stuck onto another part.
"Hmm…"
"I recalled that some insects could secrete chemical substances, making plant cells split weirdly and form hyperplasia."
"Often, the ‘bumps’ we see on plants are actually caused by insects’ ‘hyperplasia.’"
"So that meant there were insects in here?"
"Fat and juicy, with protein 3.5 times more than beef!?"
"Yay!"
At the thought of food, Trilobite perked up right away.
"Ah—woo—!"
He used his extended "tusks" from his jaws to gnaw hard at the vascular bundles of the "primitive fern," ripping it open inside.
"Oh!"
“This is…”
As he peeled it back, he saw a patch of tiny red.
But he ignored the tiny red.
Next to him was a large Trilobite, and the plankton scattered in the “Primal Mud” would be handled by the Trilobite.
What truly caught Trilobite’s attention were the white fleshy Root Worms lying on the roots!
“Slurp… slurp…”
One after another, he sucked those white Root Worms into his mouth.
“Hmm, the evolution of insects has always been a mystery; the ability of Abnormal Development seems to have ‘suddenly’ appeared.”
“Just like free wings.”
Abnormal Development was indeed a miraculous skill.
The larvae didn’t compete with adults for Ecological Niches but instead took on an extra niche.
That was impressive.
One species occupied two Ecological Niches…
How sneaky that was!
“However, I really have to thank insects for evolving the ‘Abnormal Development’ skill so early, providing me with such tasty larvae.”
“Ah, let me keep peeling this root; maybe there’s more…”
With a greedy desire for snacks, Trilobite began to peel at the root.
To make it easier, he swallowed the entire root whole!
—-
“Ah—!”
“Damn, how is this possible!”
“What kind of monster is this!? Is it an Outer God?!”
“Why is it destroying the roots of the ‘Fantasy Tree’?”
When the tremors began, the demons started to panic, desperately trying to drive the Root Worms up along the roots.
These Root Worms were quite expensive livestock in Subspace, and Gimmerly had spent a lot of resources hiring them.
If they lost them…
Their master would probably laugh wickedly and make them fight each other to the death; only the last one standing could survive.
However, they might not need to worry about the dreadful punishment after returning.
Because they probably wouldn’t escape!
“Bang—!”
The roots of the Fantasy Tree in Subspace were actually snapped by a terrifying power!
Etheric liquid mixed with Primal Mud fiercely poured in, washing away everything in the corridor.
"Ah—!"
"Help!"
"A crazy giant monster is wrecking the Fantasy Tree!"
But no matter how loud the demons screamed, the etheric liquid dissolved their bodies. Those blessed by the demon god avoided dissolution yet tumbled into the corridor below—where a strange "flat-shaped ship" trailed slowly behind the monster,
watching the demons with predatory focus.
Only a few demons clung to the Root Worms, barely surviving.
The Root Worms themselves resisted the "restorative" effect of the etheric liquid. They anchored their legs into fractured roots, desperate to endure.
But it proved useless…
"Madness! That thing—it’s devouring Subspace!?"
"No—!"
"What kind of abomination is this? It consumes space itself!?"
"Ah—!"
Screaming demons crawled over the Root Worm-infested "Subspace corridor" before plunging into the colossal creature’s abyss-like throat!
—-
"So that’s it!"
Albert Drake knelt once more before the great Giant God.
"While forging the net path, the Giant God still defends our world—halting Subspace’s invasion!"
"Such foresight!"
"Great is the Giant God!"
By now, even those skeptical of the Giant God’s "Network Plan" success dared not question his greatness.
Though uneasy about the "Sun Giant God Church’s" autocracy, the tangible threat of chaos silenced doubts. Many "representatives of the people" were refugees bearing deep-seated hatred for chaos.
Reality persuaded where words failed.
Just then…
"Zzz—!"
Purity Officer Sylvia approached.
"Zzz…"
She shed her loose etheric suit, revealing form-fitting knight’s armor beneath.
The new "Sun Giant God Church" imposed lax attire rules for women. Most chosen female knights opted for sleek, protective armor and combat gear.
Male Solar Knights and Chosen Knights, however, favored "tin can" heavy armor.
According to Sulya, this reflected the Giant God’s unconscious "aesthetics."
Church women also radiated "Holy Light from the Sun" around men, veiling their figures in luminous haze—
another rumored preference of the Giant God.
Sylvia’s escort, Ashen Knights in full plate, were demon-hunting specialists.
Their captives sparked gasps across the deck:
A dozen demons!
Sylvia shrugged. "Poor haul today. Most dissolved in the etheric liquid."
"Only caught this many…"
"Hmm? Something wrong, Albert Drake?"
As Sylvia proposed a blood ritual belowdecks to honor the Giant God’s greatness, Albert Drake frowned, listening intently.
Then…
"Thud… thud… thud…"
A young crewman burst into the cabin.
"Captain!"
"We’ve picked up a distress signal!"
"It’s coming from the ‘etheric liquid’ above the net path!"
"But etheric liquid and Primal Mud interference make the signal patchy. We can’t pinpoint its source!"
