Chapter 36: Oh, What a Cute Squid!
If the chaos evil gods had many flaws in their personalities but mostly possessed reason and intelligence, then most Outer Gods represented pure insanity and mindlessness.
These twisted monsters, many sporting tentacles, often emerged from the "Primal Mud" between realms.
However, these Outer Gods usually lingered around the realm’s "big bubbles" within the mud.
Straying too far from the realm’s "bubble" risked these mad Outer Gods being devoured by terrifying creatures in the endless muck!
Though the "Primal Mud" seeping into "bubbles"—meaning inside realms—benefited local creatures by emitting radiative energy that sustained small ecosystems and powered intelligent civilizations, such seepage had been altered by the realm’s laws.
In contrast, unaltered "Primal Mud" in its primal state emitted wildly chaotic radiative energy.
This untamed radiation drove nearly all life to madness. Even the mighty souls of deities couldn’t withstand it, often twisting into grotesque forms.
Hence arose the Outer Gods’ madness and blind stupidity.
Yet exceptions existed.
Only a rare few Outer God races with exceptionally resilient souls resisted the Primal Mud’s radiation near the bubble.
Thus they often grew more cunning than the chaos evil gods!
The "blood octopus clan," tasked by that "alluring" chaos evil god to "cleanse the ocean floor," numbered among these special Outer Gods.
"Swoosh—!"
"Whoosh—!"
Three octopus-like yet far more primitive beings darted across the seabed.
Wing-like appendages atop their heads flapped rhythmically, propelling them swiftly through the depths!
Five smaller "shelled tentacle monsters" trailed behind.
Soon these blood octopus Outer Gods sensed trouble.
Scattered seabed fragments seized their attention!
Divine Body shards.
They recognized who these remains belonged to!
“Trouble! Big trouble!”
“Our subcontractor’s dead! Dead!”
“Too little payment! Too little!”
“No strong takers! Only weaklings! Fools!”
“Like these behind us! Weak! Stupid!”
“But our deposit was tiny too! Tiny!”
“Fail the job, forfeit the fee! Forfeit!”
After their clamorous debate, the blood octopus gods steeled themselves to advance!
The lure of 500 divine rank fragments proved too strong!
But…
“Whoosh—!”
An enormous fish-shaped Giant God swam past them!
“Bang!”
Its massive jaws snapped together with a loud "bang," showing its power to the uninvited guests; the fish’s body darted quickly, showing its speed!
Every action of the fish-shaped deity made it clear—I’m not to be messed with!
You all, get lost!
The thoughts of this giant fish quickly reached them.
“This guy was so fierce! So fierce!”
“The three of us together probably couldn’t beat it! We couldn’t win!”
“Pain scared me! It’s awful!”
“But the task required us to bring back its head! Its head!”
While wanting the opponent’s head, they also wished to keep the enemy away.
The situation became a standoff.
But soon, the blood octopus clan started to act!
“Same old trick! Same old trick!”
“Trick it! Trick it!”
—-
After Trilobite spat out the "dragon’s spittle," he got back the Trilobite creature he had shielded and thrown out as bait, bringing her with him.
No matter if this Trilobite was called a "ship girl" or a "bug girl," using her as bait felt a bit low.
Though he had shielded her first, Trilobite still felt a little bad.
“I’ll buy you gear later!”
But for now…
“Stay on me; I needed to keep you safe!”
Trilobite swam back and forth, eyeing the “tentacle monster” ahead.
“Hmm…”
“Even though these things looked kind of cute, they were tough to deal with!”
Trilobite had seen many tentacle monsters before, but this was his first time meeting such a cute one.
They had big eyes, which helped them see in the dark deep sea. Unlike normal octopuses with free tentacles, they had tentacles spread out, linked by thin, clear skin.
“They were a bit like vampire squids, but earlier! More basic!”
“They should have been early blood octopuses from the Devonian period! Their bodies were red too!”
“But early blood octopuses were small, only tens of centimeters long, while these guys with their tentacles were over one and a half meters!”
“And they looked a little like ‘little flying elephant octopuses’; they were so cute I didn’t want to hurt them.”
In fact, the academic community generally believed that both octopuses and squids originated from the "vampire squid" that appeared in the Jurassic period, but recent fossil discoveries might have pushed the appearance of this creature back to the Devonian period!
“Then, I would intimidate them a bit…”
“Since you all look so cute, I won’t actively hunt you.”
“But if you attacked me, that would ruin my ‘image,’ and don’t blame my ‘Duncker’s fish teeth’ for being rude!”
Thinking this, Trilobite swam quickly, showing his power and aggression.
These early "blood octopuses" did not share his ecological niche, so there was no need for them to fight; in fact, if a blood octopus acted alone, it might have become prey for a Carcharocles.
But hunting prey as big as him or larger, especially in groups, counted as "risky predation."
Predators had a chance of getting hurt or even dying.
“Whether in the ocean or on land, injury could be deadly for any animal!”
“So…”
“Get lost!”
“Don’t come near!”
“Whoosh—!”
Trilobite kept intimidating them, holding his ground!
This tense standoff seemed incredibly shocking to the mortals.
Because both Sulya and the Old Prophet knew these "blood octopus deities."
While other Outer Gods might have been foolish and unpredictable madmen, these "blood octopus deities" were sly and cunning lunatics.
They made all sorts of perfect-sounding promises and contracts with hidden traps; when others agreed happily, they used loopholes to turn against their partners.
Many deities on both the order and chaos sides fell for their tricks and suffered big losses!
Worse, when they found out they were tricked, they couldn’t argue back.
This was because the "blood octopus deities" were not only cunning but also strong, and they liked to move in groups!
To make it harder, they had their own City of Dimensions; if they faced a powerful demon god they couldn’t beat, they hid in the City of Dimensions or fled back to the Primal Mud outside the "dimensional bubbles."
They were a group that was both powerful and sly.
“God!”
“Be careful! Don’t be fooled by their words!”
Sulya prayed silently.
The Old Prophet was even more shocked.
“God! Three huge Outer Gods were hesitating before the Giant God?!”
“How strong must the Giant God be?!”
“Perhaps… it wasn’t those selfish Order Gods that could bring dawn to all smart beings in the Crystal Walls; instead, it was the strong and growing Giant God!”
While the mortals prayed and thought…
“Whoosh—!”
The few "blood octopus Outer Gods" suddenly moved!
“Zzz—Ga—Gluurrrr—!”
The Outer Gods made sounds and blew bubbles, with tentacles linked by membranes and the “ear blades” on their heads flapping nonstop.
“Uh…”
The Solar Knight on the Giant God’s back, the Old Prophet, and even Sulya covered their heads.
Those awful, tempting words ate away at their minds.
If they hadn’t been near the Giant God, they would have gone mad long ago!
“Damn it!”
“This is the ‘Creation Language’!”
The Old Prophet covered his head.
“These tricky, crazy Outer Gods were misusing this sacred magic language again!”
“They used it to offer those evil, sneaky contracts!”
It was said that the "Creation Language" was the noise and echo when the whole Crystal Walls formed; it was a sound carved deep in every soul in this world!
“That was a scary language that went straight to the soul!”
“Whether mortals, deities, or animals, anyone born in this world… no, even souls from all worlds in the Crystal Walls, including chaos evil gods in Subspace, could understand it.”
“If a being that heard the ‘Creation Language’ had a weaker mind than the speaker, it would be tricked!”
“Only the wisest beings could resist its lure!”
“O Giant God!”
“Do you have enough wisdom to fight off this evil god’s temptation?!”
