Chapter 35: Humans Actually Have Rather Strong Tastes
Stomachaches were normal for wild animals.
For animals that ate sporadically, no food could be wasted.
When they gulped down rotten meat or spoiled stuff, it often hurt their stomachs.
Anyone who’d kept cats knew they got bellyaches easily; wild cats had it worse. Though gut troubles rarely slowed them down, it shortened their lives.
Trilobite felt he’d overdone it this time—swallowing two Sinoceras his own size was pure gluttony.
Not just that, he’d also choked down their shattered shells, sharp beaks, eyeballs, and all sorts of other hard bits…
No wonder his stomach was killing him.
"Ugh…"
"Can’t take it…"
"Damn, this sucks!"
He’d sucked down squid before, but those were lame Mantis Shrimp—squid ancestors. They had no hard shells, and their beaks were soft despite being pointy, so they didn’t wreck his gut.
"Damn hornstone!"
"So you saved this trick!"
"Trying to pay me back with a stomachache?"
"Not a chance!"
"Hss—urk—!"
Trilobite’s body suddenly seized and shuddered.
Then…
"Roar—!"
Carcharocles spewed out a mass of foamy slime. Heavier chunks sank fast, hitting the seabed.
Lighter bits—partly digested goo and Sinoceras beak fragments—drifted upward, buoyed by bubbles and mucus toward the surface.
"Hmm…"
Watching his vomit float away, Trilobite had a weird thought.
"Am I puking ambergris?"
Ambergris came from sperm whales. After sucking down Big Squid, their guts got irritated and made mucus to wrap around beaks and hooks before puking or pooping them out.
That puke or poop floated in seawater, oxidizing naturally. Mixed with salt and alkali, it saponified. When humans finally found it ages later, it became priceless "ambergris."
Humans sure had strong tastes.
"Kinda neat."
"But just a thought."
"Right now, my Chaos Points…"
[Chaos Points: 1500/1000 (Can enter evolution page)]
This point count…
It seemed like nothing could be bought with it anymore.
“Then I’ll just keep saving.”
“Since it’s come to this, minor fixes wouldn’t help much.”
“And if I grow larger…”
According to Trilobite’s estimation, after undergoing another growth spurt, his size had reached “1.3 meters.”
Due to the continuous increase in size, the 1500 points of Chaos Energy weren’t enough to even buy a 5% growth.
This fit well with the real data on Carcharocles.
Carcharocles was the most basic, primitive shark, yet it set up the core shape for later shark families; this early type didn’t grow big.
In some places, Carcharocles measured around half a meter, and the largest one found so far was only two meters long.
In the ocean dominated by shield fish, that size made it a weak fish chased and bitten everywhere.
But the horror fish of the horror fish family struggled to catch Carcharocles; to nab the fast-moving Carcharocles, they had to set ambushes!
Back then, cartilaginous fish could only pick on the sea scorpions, which were fading under the horror fish’s pressure.
“Damn it, when I grow into a Great White Shark, I’ll eat you all!”
“Hmm…”
“What about below…?”
“Wait!?”
“More trouble’s coming!?”
“Wow! This trouble’s huge!”
Both the sharp “Olfactory Membranes” and the “Lorentz Jar” were warning Trilobite.
Several creatures, about the same size as Carcharocles, were slowly swimming over!
—-
“We survived!?”
“Those two crazy Outer Gods left!?”
“Hooray! Thank the gods!”
…
On the ocean’s surface, the fleet of the Saltwater Queen, Albert Drake, was still a mess, but Albert Drake and her sailors felt huge relief.
The fleet was gone, but it could be rebuilt.
If people died, they couldn’t come back.
But while celebrating their survival, all clear-headed folks, especially Duchess Albert Drake, had other thoughts.
She wasn’t thinking about how she’d angered the Outer Gods as Sea God Agor had told her to.
The Outer Gods were mad and twisted; they didn’t need any reason to attack, whether against Order-side powers or Chaos-side ones.
Duchess Albert Drake was recalling how she and her crew were rescued.
“Just now, it seemed that a deity’s ‘lower servant’ or ‘subordinate official’ passed by and led those crazy Outer Gods away.”
“Thanks to them, we survived.”
“But…”
She remembered that while the “subordinate official of the deity” was huge, even bigger than her flagship, it was still a tiny being among deities.
“That brave lower deity couldn’t resist the two powerful Outer Gods!”
“So…”
“Bang—!”
She slammed the armrest of her chair, stood up, and fiercely broadcasted across the fleet with magic.
“You bunch of slimy slugs crawling on the ocean floor! You sea cucumbers spewing from your guts!”
“Is this the time to dawdle like a bunch of cowards!?”
“Hurry up and rescue people! All ships, start repairs now!”
“The Outer Gods won’t be held back long; they’ll return soon…”
Duchess Albert Drake’s words were cut off by a sudden scream.
“Oh no! Bubbles! So many bubbles!”
“Damn it! It must be the Outer Gods! The Outer Gods are back!”
“Ah—!”
“I don’t want to die yet!”
Desperate cries erupted from every battleship as everyone recalled the Outer Gods’ terror, madness, and power.
Fear gripped their hearts again, and they ran around wildly.
Only Duchess Albert Drake stayed calm.
“Shut up!”
“Don’t panic, you brainless lumpfish!”
“This isn’t the Outer Gods returning!”
Duchess Albert Drake calmly and keenly sensed that what rose with the bubbles wasn’t the Outer Gods’ twisting, nauseating aura.
Instead, a wave of “purity,” warm like the “sun,” surged up with the foam!
Soon…
“Splash!”
The main figure surfaced!
It was strange, twisted fragments, each nearly the length of these small boats!
These giant “fragments” were wrapped in a transparent, jelly-like substance, bobbing on the ocean.
“Quick, row the boat!”
As the bubbles broke the surface of the sea, Duchess Albert Drake was already on a small boat, leaving her flagship. She intended to personally retrieve this strange substance.
“What is this…?”
When she got closer to the mass, Albert Drake shuddered!
Inside that mass, there indeed existed the horrific aura of the Outer Gods, but it had almost been purified; it mostly came from the fragments wrapped in “jelly.”
And that “sun-like” aura came from the “jelly.”
“How pure! What a holy power!”
“But this power is also very dangerous, as if it could melt everything, including the Divine Body!”
“It must be that ‘subordinate officials’ master who killed the two Outer Gods! These are fragments of their bodies that fell during the battle!”
“Then entwined with these Outer God body fragments…”
A smile appeared on Albert Drake’s face.
“It must be that Giant God’s ‘divine blood’!”
“It seems this Giant God must have been severely injured!”
“I feel like I have sensed the aura of this divine blood somewhere before…”
Albert Drake recalled some armored warriors dressed in sturdy armor, with the sun embroidered on their robes!
Unknowingly, her hand touched the slime!
“Zzi—!”
The slime wrapped around her hand, seeping quickly into Albert Drake’s skin; however, it did not dissolve the Duchess’s hand. Instead…
“Uh…”
Albert Drake braced herself against the boat, feeling dizzy as an incredibly powerful force surged into her body continuously!
“What is this…?”
“Divine grace!?”
“Could it be that the great deity already knows of my ‘conversion’ vow?”
“What remarkable insight!”
While Duchess Albert Drake looked at her hand, marveling at the power of the unknown Giant God…
“Splash…”
Waves rolled, and several large ships appeared on the horizon.
Their sails boldly displayed the image of a seahorse.
The sea god “Agor’s” divine guards had arrived!
At the same time, a cold voice echoed from behind…
“Albert Drake!”
“How bold of you to dare betray the sea god!”
“Now, I, Sea God High Priest Teach, in the name of the sea god assembly, arrest you!”
