Chapter 26: When the Gods Treat Humans as Humans, Humans Treat the Gods as Gods
Sankalabi was a member of the Chaos Council’s back row.
Although the term "back row" often suggested a lack of status and shallow experience, it was better than the "lowest rank," which could change quickly.
At the same time, back-row members were sent to do somewhat important tasks.
For example, confronting a not-so-strong Order God…
At that time, the Chaos deities needed such skilled people; after all, the great "Black Expedition" had started, and war had spread across the entire Crystal Walls.
The Chaos deities moved through strange Subspace, avoiding the endless Wilderness swamp of "Primal Mud" that blocked paths between worlds. They recklessly destroyed one world after another.
Each world floated like bubbles in the swamp, but they couldn’t connect because of the "Primal Mud" barrier. They could only fight alone.
This let chaotic energy gather absolute strength, crushing one world after another; those worlds could only put up helpless, lonely defenses.
In such a great time, a driven Chaos deity should lead his endless demon legion, spreading fear and destruction to all worlds!
They would laugh on ruins full of ashes and scorched earth, showing everyone that—at the end of everything, only destruction remains!
But…
"Why was I sent to do this trash job of cleaning up ‘stinking fish and rotten shrimp’!?"
"Andumali! Dantalin! Those useless fools!"
Sankalabi moved slowly on the ocean floor, shaking his sturdy Limbs as he cursed angrily.
"It’s all your fault for failing to beat the crickets Order God!"
"Now I have to handle this garbage task!"
…
Although the Chaotic Forces attacked many worlds at once, and their army was unstoppable, the sudden mess in the Abyss’s "Zero Layer" caused some small problems.
The fall and replacement of the lowest rank in the Chaos Council were common, but Dantalin and Andumali fell too fast, and the legion in the "Zero Layer" almost vanished. That was strange.
Rumors said a new Order God hiding in the sea had woken up, becoming a deity for humans hiding there; others said a sneaky Outer God broke its promise and attacked Chaos deities.
But losing two lowest ranks wasn’t worth big trouble.
To the Chaos Council, the empty ocean floor was just a bit suspicious.
After thinking it over, the Chaotic Forces sent the back-row councilor Sankalabi to check.
This Chaos deity wore heavy armor; his spell capability was weaker than top members, but his body was very strong among Chaos deities, and his build fit deep-sea action.
Still, Sankalabi was very unhappy.
As a fine Chaos man, he should fight the Order God; instead, he got this "stinking fish and rotten shrimp" work!
The more Sankalabi thought, the madder he got, his big pincers snapping with a scary sound that cut the water!
Just then…
"Hmm!?"
"What’s happening ahead? So much ‘Primal Mud,’ piled neatly into a mountain?"
"And why hasn’t Balrog reported to me yet?!"
"Didn’t he go after that battleship that reported to those ‘stinking fish and rotten shrimp’ ocean people?"
"Why hasn’t there been any word yet?"
But soon…
“Crack…”
Sankalabi’s massive limb stepped on something hard, making a dull thud.
It felt like a bony, long object.
"What is this…?"
It was a lone, violently torn-off tail spike!
"Why does this look so familiar!?"
"Wait! Isn’t this Balrog’s tail spike?"
"Could he also…?"
Now, Sankalabi knew Balrog’s fate.
"How is that possible!?"
"Stay alert!"
Instantly, the chaos evil god tensed up.
His careless attitude about the mission vanished completely.
Sankalabi knew Balrog’s power. The chaos evil god, called Balrog the Terror, was only a bit weaker than himself in divine weapons and gear. What kept Balrog stuck among the Seatless Ones was his serious personality flaws, mediocre spell-casting, and plain bad luck.
In raw strength, he easily outmatched Andumali and Dantalin!
"Whoever’s coming must be a mighty deity!"
"Is it those meddling ‘Outer Gods’? Or the long-sleeping Ancient Gods!?"
"Looks like I need a big move!"
Strong magic power gathered between Balrog’s pincers. A devastating single-target spell was ready to strike!
But…
“Snap—!”
The first thing that touched him wasn’t anything else—just a tiny human battleship.
"Ah—!"
"Urk—!"
Balrog nearly flinched and almost blasted the forbidden spell at the ship.
“Phew…”
"What’s this thing?"
"Ocean people’s scrap metal?"
He slowly tapped the "battleship" with his pincer.
But just as he was distracted by the little broken ship…
“Whoosh—!”
A terrifying shadow crept up on his side!
—-
“Is this… is this the refuge the Giant God made for his followers?”
“A huge City of Dimensions!?”
The Old Man sat on the Giant God’s Radiance, amazed as he looked out the porthole.
No doubt, the City of Dimensions was huge and wild. This big ship could sail freely inside it.
But a world without resources meant nothing.
What really shocked the Old Man was when the ship went into a tunnel and came out into a wide-open space.
“My God…”
“What is this!”
He saw piles of earth covered in Primal Mud, giving off Holy Energy, and heaps of divine body remains. He clutched his chest, gasping for air.
“So much power…”
“If we save it, this could last us thousands of years, right!?”
“At least, we could survive one end of the world!”
“Yes, this is what the prophecy said: the great and kind god put his people in a safe holy land.”
“And he himself, then…”
True, the prophecy told how the great god stood to fight chaos, drove back the enemy, left his remains behind, and left…
This was a huge tragedy!
“Enough!”
“Bang!”
Sulya slapped the Captain’s Chair in the ship’s command room.
“Get all civilians off the ship!”
“Those not magically changed and can’t handle the deep sea must go by small boats to special shelters.”
“And we will fight!”
“As the god’s followers, we can’t let tragedy happen!”
“Since the Giant God sees us as real people, not things, we must treat him as a true god!”
“We’ll add our human strength to the God’s War!”
So, after dropping off all civilians, the huge ship passed through the safe City of Dimensions and reached the sea where the God’s War was set to begin.
The City of Dimensions was a private space only gods and demons inside could enter or leave. To take control, you had to kill and eat the owner. But the living saint honored by the Giant God, the Solar Knights blessed with Holy Light from the Sun, and ships made from divine bone and divine skin could pass safely.
“You! Are you mad!?”
The Old Man stared at Sulya in shock.
“No matter what, the prophecy’s outcome won’t change!”
“Fighting the chaos evil god like this is just wasting our lives!”
Sulya ignored the Old Man’s warning.
The big ship pushed ahead, and soon the huge body of the chaos god came into view.
A crushing pressure hit Sulya and the Old Man.
“Uh…”
The Old Man covered his head and crouched down at once.
But Sulya stood firm like a plum blossom in snow, tall and shining with beauty and light.
“Wasting our lives?”
“Maybe.”
A strong light flashed in Sulya’s eyes.
This human warrior, a loyal follower of the Giant God, had already accepted life and death!
“But today, I’ll show you how to turn the prophecy around!”
“O giant ship!”
“Brave crew!”
“Noble Solar Knights!”
“Sing with me a human song of praise for the great Giant God!”
Then Sulya waved her hand, and the ship charged forward, smashing into the chaos god— the powerful Thunder Scorpion, Sankalabi!
