Chapter 107: Discovering Long-Lost Delicacies!
Trilobite dug tirelessly in the cave, trying to make the opening wider.
“This stuff is really thick.”
“It made me put in so much effort.”
“Hmm, anyway, let’s thin out the ‘walls’ first.”
“Heave ho——!”
Trilobite worked hard, smashing and digging out hardened mud blocks tough as stone, and threw them outside the City of Dimensions.
“Bang——!”
“Boom——!”
Outside the cave, a haze formed from Primal Mud and balls of Primal Mud of all sizes.
“Whew… Hiss…”
Heavy breathing filled the cockpit as an exploration vessel shaped like a “small shrimp” drifted on the ocean floor.
Behind it, many spider-like war machines slowly pulled back.
Fragments of Primal Mud thrown by the Giant God from the City of Dimensions hit the war machines’ outsides, cutting their life short; big chunks could even smash their legs like cannonballs!
But while others retreated, the exploration vessel pushed ahead.
He needed to find out what the Giant God was doing and about the “solid bits” mixed with the Primal Mud.
“Screech——!”
A mechanical arm reached out and gently grabbed a fist-sized bit.
“Whoosh… Whoosh…”
The arm shook a little, brushing off the Primal Mud; a red crystal came into view.
“Whew… Hiss… Whew…”
The breathing grew faster.
This Valaharl Researcher knew the crystal.
It was Chaos Crystal, made when Primal Mud sat for ages under the evil radiative energy from the male Chaos Demon God, changing its form.
Demons eating them got stronger and healed their wounds!
Also, Chaos Crystals were very tough and gave off radiative energy that kept up the chaos barrier; so, they were often turned into pricey armor and charms.
Demons wearing Chaos Crystal armor were at least Demon Princes, nearly as strong as half a chaos deity!
Clearly, the chaos deity once living in that City of Dimensions was a powerful one, pumping out evil radiative energy; He made Chaos Crystals day and night to protect and power some “thing.”
That “thing” trapped Valaharl’s will, stopping her from taking back her powers and fixing the Crystal Walls, even with most roots cut.
But now, the Giant God kept wrecking the Chaos Crystals used to trap Valaharl’s will, breaking them into bits that flew out.
What amazed this Valaharl Researcher more was that the Chaos Energy inside seemed “cleaned,” leaving just the plain “shell.”
Putting it all together…
"Whew… Hiss…"
The breathing beneath the mask grew excited.
The Giant God was gradually liberating Valaharl’s will!
But just then…
"Boom——!"
An earth-shaking roar erupted at the entrance to the primordial City of Dimensions. Something rough seemed to be scraping against the continental shelf outside, making an astonishing scraping sound.
Primal Mud swirled through the seabed, forming a murky haze that completely obscured the exploration sub’s view.
Yet the blood octopus Outer God, with its divine senses, appeared to know exactly what transpired!
"Woohoo! Woohoo!"
"The Great Ferocious Fish gave us treasures again! Treasures!"
They charged toward the City of Dimensions entrance, gleefully rummaging through the Primal Mud.
"Found it! Got it!"
"Trade it for rewards! Rewards!"
"Big score! Huge win!"
"Off we go! Move out!"
They swiftly dove toward the ocean’s depths.
There lay the special passage where Outer Gods entered the Bubble World!
—-
"Exhausted…"
"Seriously, what are these critters up to…"
Trilobite realized the three little flying elephant octopuses had latched onto him, trailing his every move.
Their one redeeming quality? They never begged for food—just scavenged his discards.
"Must be the second skin they’ve snatched from me."
After Trilobite grew larger, his original skin couldn’t contain his expanded form, making shedding inevitable.
He found it bizarre how they coveted his shed skin.
"Eh, everyone’s got quirks… animals included."
"Maybe these vampire squids share that ‘gardener bird’ obsession—decorating nests with bones and discarded sea-creature skins."
"Besides, they don’t freeload daily."
So far, they’d gifted him several nautiluses, one Leviathan hornstone, and even led him ashore for a hearty feast.
Now they’d brought him this delicious-tasting hornstone.
"Guess it’s fine as is."
"This deal felt like a huge profit for me!"
"And there were other happy things too!"
"Digging was so exhausting; I needed to take a break."
Trilobite opened his system interface, where it showed that he had gained an additional symbiotic creature.
"This system was quite interesting."
"Usually, symbiotic creatures had to stick together all the time; they needed to be neighbors or live nearby."
"But the system’s definition of symbiosis was amusing—anyone I targeted with the ‘Dance of Ancient Bacteria and Fungi’ counted as a ‘symbiotic creature’."
"I called this ‘cloud symbiosis’!"
"However, the creature scanned by my Devoted One through the system was a promising species."
Trilobite stared closely at the blurry image sent back by the system.
The image seemed distorted by something, but he could still vaguely see the shape.
"This should be the fish I saw when I was planting trees by Lake Themis."
Trilobite indeed recognized it.
However, it wasn’t a spiny fish, but rather the fish-shaped Ark of Iyangden.
With Trilobite’s starting calcite eyes, the resolution had only increased by one percent, and everything looked pixelated; mistaking their fish-shaped Ark for a type of fish was quite normal.
Not to mention, both Iyangden’s Ark and Beltan’s Ark were designed to resemble fish; compared to real fish, they might not be extremely lifelike, but at least they had mouths and eyes, and even had fins!
The design of these "biological" battleships was such that, from a distance, many people would think they were big fish.
However, while an ordinary person might mistake the battleship for a fish, Trilobite not only saw it as a fish, but could also "identify" which prehistoric fish it was.
"Hmm… it should be some kind of spiny fish."
"Not just any spiny fish; judging by its elongated body, it must have been a type closely related to sharks."
"Something like the spiny shark?"
In fact, early jawed fish, besides shield fish, bony fish, and cartilaginous fish, included a very primitive group—spiny fish.
Spiny fish were also among the first fish to have jaws.
It was very possible that modern sharks directly descended from a type of spiny fish, or at least were closely related to them.
In any case, sharks were not just descendants but also cousins.
However, unlike sharks which later followed the path of "tough guys," spiny fish generally had a rough time; they did not challenge the top of their ecological niche but seemed content with being marginal predators or even herbivores.
It appeared they wanted to go the "survival" route.
But that route did not work well.
Most spiny fish disappeared after the Carboniferous period, with only a few surviving into the end of the Permian period.
In terms of survival capability, they were even worse than Trilobite!
In contrast, the sharks that pushed to become top predators of the ocean survived to this day.
"Those who cling to life die, while those who forget death live"—this was ironic.
"Well, this was good."
"I had discovered a special way to play with symbiotic creatures—an unexpected path!"
Trilobite had already determined the evolutionary path of four-legged creatures, so he would not experience sharks roaming the seas; however, even if he changed his mind and returned to the sea, he could not feel the rush of speed on land.
Let alone flying.
"In this way, by continuously supplying Chaos Energy to symbiotic creatures and guiding them, I could experience the ‘unexpected path’ through their spawn!"
"Although spiny fish were small, mine seemed to be a ‘carnivorous type’ and could take the shark route!"
In fact, it was a pity Trilobite did not fully adopt the shark route.
But now, he could let his spawn carry it out!
"Ah, thinking about those little fish, I was actually hungry."
"What a shame…"
Trilobite felt dejected; he discovered he was trapped in a cave.
While digging to survive was possible, the soil was hard, and it would take a long time.
"Was I really going to be hungry for so long?"
"It was so painful!"
[Cough, there was food over there.]
[Just didn’t know if it suited my taste.]
[Cough cough…]
"It was fine as long as there was food!"
Following the guidance of the "sickly young lady," Trilobite crawled onto the "land" in the cave.
There, he surprisingly saw…
"It was indeed the type of food I had missed for so long."
"Hmm, I’ll taste it well!"
