Chapter 10: This Armor, I’ve Got It Covered!
“Yay!”
Trilobite felt satisfied.
With 100 points of "Chaos Energy" from an unknown source, he bought the "primitive vertebra" and "Myelin Sheath," even spending 40 Chaos Energy on an "Increase Size DLC" to grow five percent larger.
He figured the Myelin Sheath meant he could aim for bigger size and tougher hardware.
“Well, these days, one meter counts as huge!”
“Most sea scorpions are about one meter long. If I pass one meter and avoid winged horseshoe crabs, I’ll be unstoppable!”
“Though right now, I’m just half a meter long.”
Beyond his bright future, Trilobite got a surprise.
His "species had changed."
【Current Form: Armored Fish Type (Unformed)】
“That makes sense.”
Armored Fish were revolutionary—they overhauled their nervous systems, gaining true vertebrae and Myelin Sheath.
The "(Unformed)" tag fit perfectly.
Real Armored Fish didn’t just get Myelin Sheath and vertebrae; they upgraded their armor and sprouted limb precursors—paired fins!
Trilobite hadn’t tackled those yet.
But more surprises followed.
【Status: Not hungry】
【Magic Power: 300/3000 (Recovers 25 per minute)】
【Chaos Energy: 16/1000 (Insufficient for evolution)】
【Skill 1: Flip the World Off (100 Magic Power cost)】
【Skill 2: Unavailable】
“Wow! My Magic Power cap jumped ten times!?”
“Recovery speed multiplied by 25!”
“Plus an extra skill slot!”
“So awesome!”
Trilobite buzzed with excitement—now he could flip the bird everywhere.
【Hmph! Even crickets get lucky sometimes!】
The system sneered.
Too thrilled to snap back, Trilobite stayed quiet.
Truthfully, the system was right—he’d stumbled into this win.
Nerve conduction worked the same here. Without Myelin Sheath, giants like him should’ve moved sluggishly, brain signals taking minutes to reach their tails.
But this world also had magic!
The Magic Power gathered in Trilobite’s enormous body partially replaced the Myelin Sheath, allowing him to move normally. However, this also tied up vast amounts of magic, leaving only three hundred units available for the colossal creature.
Now with the Myelin Sheath functional, Trilobite could move with far less magic. Though his massive size still required magic for instant reactions, the needed power had drastically decreased.
The Myelin Sheath freed up tremendous magic reserves, though Trilobite remained unaware of this.
【I wouldn’t normally waste words on a lowlife like you, stinky brother, but rules force me to.】
【Heaven must be blind these days, letting idiots stumble into luck.】
【Since you massively expanded your magic pool and unlocked the "Magic Power Baby" achievement, I’m issuing a system package.】
【Choose one skill: "Lens Worm’s Spear" or "Ball Joint Armor," each costing 100 Magic Power.】
Two skill cards materialized before Trilobite.
【Listen up, stinky brother! I recommend "Lens Worm’s Spear." It’s basically a force-field sword. Since you lack jaws for biting, you might as well…】
Though the System Lady kept lecturing in her superior tone, Trilobite tuned her out. He hated backseat drivers during critical tasks, especially when they were clueless. Her ignorance about evolution and survival tactics was obvious – like some amateur bossing around experts.
Suggestions alone wouldn’t have bothered him. But being constantly called "stinky brother," "lowlife," and "idiot"? Unacceptable! Did being a system grant license to insult him? Fine! If she wanted hostility, he’d match it. Having died once already, he feared nothing!
"Enough. No ‘might as wells.’"
"Strong creatures rarely stack defenses, but I’m weak now. This stage demands caution."
"My current armor feels flimsy against cornerstone tentacles and sea scorpion pincers."
"I choose more armor – ‘Ball Joint Armor’!"
【…】
【Then stack your pathetic armor!】
【Go wait for death!】
The System Lady fell silent again, likely sulking after Trilobite’s retort. As an ex-researcher committed to truth, Trilobite ignored her potential tears and examined his new skill.
【Skill 2: Ball Joint Armor】
【Magic Power cost: 100】
【As the oddball of the Trilobite family, Ball Joint Armor perfected armor-stacking; they practically turned Trilobites into clams. Though some called this survival strategy useless, it remained a decent path.】
【Essentially a simple, transparent force-field shield covering an area matching your surface area. It could be placed within sight, boasting 100 hit points and lasting 180 seconds.】
【For 180 seconds, it blocked all attacks until its hit points drained. Yet your non-attack abilities could pierce the shield unaffected.】
"Solid. Practical."
"Next step then!"
"Make my monster Grow Bigger!"
Though Trilobite had bought the five-percent size-increase DLC, physical growth took time. He waited patiently for bones to stretch and skin to expand.
He wedged his Armored Fish-like body into the "cave."
"Must hide. Watch for predators."
"Starfish bury themselves in seabed mud and sand to observe secretly."
"Sea scorpions have poor vision. They rarely look downward."
"Stay still, stay unseen."
Since crossing over, Trilobite had seen neither the first overlord Strange Prawn nor the second overlord sea scorpion—not even mighty Cornerstone—except that sudden Conodont.
Still, as a weak Armored Fish, caution felt necessary.
"My territory’s just a tiny mud patch."
"Big shots probably haven’t noticed me."
"Besides, I’ve done nothing impressive lately…"
"Just a door-crashing ancient worm, a screeching Conodont, a motionless sea lily, a weak Pectinatulus Prawn from the Strange Prawn family, plus some plankton…"
"All small fry. Against real bosses? I’d fall short."
"Anyway—cautious, low-key, steady!"
Thus hid a "Titan God" spanning hundreds of meters inside the Mobile City: stifled, fearful, trembling before the "dangerous" ocean.
Truthfully, he was right.
His recent "exploits" had indeed drawn certain gazes.
—-
Honestly, the Abyss of Chaos somewhat resembled humanity’s old vision of oceans.
Shallow seas teemed with common small fish and shrimp, while deeper descents revealed increasingly unspeakable horrors.
Real oceans don’t work this way—top predators like sharks hunt mostly near the surface—but past imaginations held firm.
The Abyss mirrored this concept.
Deeper within this quasi-Subspace structure lurked ever more terrifying demons.
As for the Abyss’s Zero Layer, "Aglon River"? Hell’s outermost rim, no different from shallow seas.
Ruled here were two lowest-rank holders of Chaos’s seventy-second seat council: "Toothy Long Snake" Andumali and "Hugging Worm" Dantalin.
Although only two lowest-ranking members ruled the "Zero Layer," it might seem insufficient, but this place wasn’t important to the chaos gods; assigning two to govern made perfect sense.
Of course, to prevent these two chaos demons from being idle, the Chaos Council gave them other, less important tasks—like hunting the ocean people who had retreated into the deep sea.
Andumali took this seriously; he even sent his son down and said he was ready to join in personally to mistreat these ignorant humans.
Dantalin looked down on this; as one of the "wise generals" among the chaos gods, he just thought Andumali, the reckless guy, was giving in to his thirst for slaughter again.
However, even if he didn’t respect Andumali, Dantalin knew his strength well and believed the ocean people would be wiped out quickly.
But the result surprised him…
“Andumali had actually gone missing…”
“Our powerful ocean floor fortress was breached.”
“That Outer God ally didn’t follow the agreement to send information regularly…”
“The ocean people couldn’t have done this on their own.”
“Unless a god was helping them.”
…
“But the gods on the Order-side were being beaten down and living in fear.”
“Newly born gods couldn’t either; how could a cub defeat a grown beast!?”
In the misty chaos, Dantalin’s mind raced.
Multiple thoughts ran parallel, countless variables and data tangled in his head. Soon, his clever calculations broke through the fog and touched the "truth."
“It was Andumali’s own scheme.”
Dantalin slapped an imaginary thigh with a non-existent hand, leaning back in a tactical move as he saw through it all.
“He’s secretly raising an ‘Order God’ to use as bait and lure me out; then ambush and devour me!”
The relationships between chaos demons weren’t peaceful; scheming and backstabbing were common among chaos gods.
Andumali and Dantalin were no different, both wanting to swallow each other to grow stronger and rise in the Chaos Council’s ranks.
But these two chaos deities had to work together on material world duties and report to higher chaos gods.
If something went wrong and couldn’t be explained, the higher gods could weaken and shame them to stop any threat to their status!
So, with Andumali missing, Dantalin had to search and investigate, stepping in personally if needed.
“Hah, a good plan, but you’re too green to outsmart me!”
A "poisonous idea" formed in Dantalin’s mind.
“Since you’re doing this, I’ll let them fight each other.”
“First, spread some half-truths.”
“Others besides me want to devour you!”
“Those on the edges of the Chaos Council, and Andumali’s own followers—all restless!”
“And on the Outer God side, a ‘disappearance’ happened; they won’t let it go! Order Gods disguised as Outer Gods will stir too!”
“Why not let you all battle? Even if you eat up those restless followers, you’ll be badly hurt by then.”
“A snake is weakest when it’s full.”
“Then I can… heh… haha… ahahahaha…”
Triumphant laughter echoed through the chaos of the Zero Layer.
