Chapter 144: Title

“Speaking of which, I can’t wait to see what the Battleground looks like!” The Moon-eating Celestial Dog’s playful demeanor belied its tens of thousands of years as an “elder canine.”

“My grandfather once told me the Heavenly Law Battleground still existed when he first reached adulthood. Alas, it later withdrew into the void during the consolidation of forces.”

The other demon lords nodded at these words, having heard similar accounts from their own elders.

“My family elders spoke of it too,” Di Yan declared with pride, his crown feathers shimmering. “As a fledgling, I vowed to other spirit cultivators that I’d claim my place there if it ever returned.”

“In the Ancient Era, the Heavenly Law Battleground emerged once every thirty rotations—ten thousand and eight hundred years—to gather the finest talents across all realms. The minimum cultivation threshold varied each time.”

“Yet entry always demanded at least Tier Four cultivation, equivalent to the Spirit God realm.”

“Every being, whether human cultivator, spirit cultivator, demon, or ghost, gained but a single chance to enter.” Di Yan’s plumage rippled with agitation as he continued, “After its mythic first appearance, every subsequent emergence followed this law. Yet now it admits even those below Tier One and the Innate Realm…”

Kirin Ze sighed at his companion’s indignation. “Is this not auspicious? It heralds an approaching golden age—proof our world thrives anew.”

By the pond’s edge, Bai Ze frowned at an elusive sensation prickling his awareness. His gaze drifted toward Kirin Ze, renowned for sharp perception, yet he withheld his inquiry.

If the Kirin noble noticed anything, he’d either share it or not. The absence of alarm from danger-sensitive Di Yan and Yue Xi suggested no imminent threat.

The Kirin Clan always avoided conflict, while Bai Ze’s kin were peacemakers none dared offend—wise beings knew better than spurn future allies.

Under Heaven’s decree, myriad beings flourished.

Spirit cultivators encompassed creatures awakening intelligence from primal chaos. Yet some beasts emerged already enlightened—divine creatures like Kirin, Golden Crows, and Bai Ze, born with mighty forms surpassing plant or animal spirits.

Dragon and Phoenix Clans shared this celestial heritage, ancient as the mountains themselves. Yet ironically, late-coming humans now ruled where primal powers once reigned.

Perched on a branch, Di Yan’s golden plumage blazed like molten sunlight. “Your words hold truth, Kirin Ze, but must I lower myself? The Battleground once hosted worthy rivals. Now?” His tail feathers flicked scornfully. “With human realm’s Spiritual Energy barely reviving? We’d face only unranked stragglers and a handful of Tier Ones!”

“The Battleground’s summons reflects current cultivation averages!” The Golden Crow’s voice sharpened, feathers bristling. “How can spirit cultivators—born with Tier One strength—be lumped with Tier Zero trash?”

Kirin Ze’s laughter rang clear as mountain springs. “You underestimate matters. Did Empress Nuwa not shelter weaklings in her Mountain and Sea Realm? Though lacking her direct grace, humans surely devised their own protections.”

His eyes glinted mischievously. “Unless… you’d break your vow to accompany me? Bai Ze, Yue Xi—bear witness!”

“A thousand times no!” The Moon-eating Celestial Dog leaped up, tail lashing. “Never use that name!”

Di Yan soared onto the Kirin’s back and pecked him sharply. "I never break my word," he retorted. "I simply find sparring with you all utterly tedious."

Bai Ze’s gentle laughter rippled through the air. "Don’t you find Yue Xi more elegant than your self-chosen name? At least this one won’t incur celestial retribution."

The Golden Crow let out a booming laugh. "Ten millennia and you still flinch at that name, Yue Xi? Granted it’s somewhat effeminate, but infinitely better than ‘Pride of Heaven’."

"Pride of Heaven indeed. The Heavenly Dao must be etching grievances as we speak."

In the second-floor study of the mountain villa, a mask-clad girl doubled over in laughter, her face mask slipping off as she clutched her sides. "Pride of Heaven?" she gasped between giggles. "Did that dog actually name himself that?"

The live stream chat erupted with frenzied comments, viewers dissecting every detail of the demon lords’ banter:

— Never thought I’d see a tsundere Golden Crow! XD

— Address them properly, insolent humans! (╬ ̄皿 ̄)

— Tsundere≠pride! Why wasn’t this in spirit cultivator textbooks?

— Yue…Pride of Heaven? Demon lords have worse taste than my ex!

— Why’s that rabid hellhound called something poetic like Yue Xi??

— If Empress Nuwa shaped Mountain and Sea Realm, do humans get realms too?

— Do we have patron deities like spirit cultivators? Who?

— What’s this "thirty rotations" about? Battleground cycles every 10,800yrs? (O_O)

— Spirit cultivator basic courses? Do they study human customs too?

— Qindu search exists for a reason, newbies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

— How ancient is "Ancient Era"? Bronze Age? Jurassic?

— Battleground’s lifetime limit is cruel – who lives 10k years anyway?

— Tier Four minimum for Battleground? Officials haven’t even reached Tier Three!

— Tier Two here, singlehandedly tanking humanity’s stats. (︶︹︺)

— Our academy’s launching cross-species studies next term – hype!

— Tier Four peasants quiet! Ji Lang’s a Tier Seven Sword Immortal from 1000yrs ago!

— Us pre-Tier Twos aren’t even stats. (´-ω-`)

— Humanity’s got prodigies too! Check Special Bureau’s Ancient Mythology series!

— World’s stuck at Tier One – we’ll surpass them once we rank up! (≧∇≦)/

— Golden Crow’s right – we’re drowning in unranked mobs.

— "Drowning"? Official stats show only 60k humans above Tier Two… (´Д`)

— (¬_¬) Mythos confirms it – humanity’s divine backers OP!

— Bai Ze’s zen vibes + giant dog sidekick = ultimate duo.

— "Doting on dogs" commentator needs brain recalibration. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

—— Doesn’t anyone care that the Dragon Lord is chatting with the Phoenix on the cliff? I demand a camera switch immediately! Where are the sisters from his fan club? =3=

The live stream buzzed with countless viewers sharing reactions. Those fortunate enough to enter Xiao Tianji’s broadcast were privileged, while others settled for relayed streams. Among billions of human spectators, comments from spirit cultivators vanished like pebbles in an ocean—after all, their numbers on Blue Star paled against humanity’s overwhelming dominance.

By the forest lake, the demon lords remained oblivious to their audience.

“Enough! That name is forbidden now,” growled the Moon-eating Celestial Dog, her sleek black form crouching low as she glared at the Golden Crow perched on Kirin’s back. “Say it again, and I’ll tear your throat out.”

Di Yan, the Golden Crow, smirked defiantly. “Approach, and I’ll have Kirin skewer you with his horn.”

“Horns? My Bai Ze has better ones!”

Bai Ze and Kirin exchanged weary glances as the ancient beings bickered. One might expect eons of life to bring wisdom, yet Di Yan and Yue Xi’s millennia seemed to have slipped by without a trace.

——?? When did this turn NSFW?

——Holy stars, that escalated quickly! (⊙v⊙)

——The chariot’s wheels just crushed my dignity!

——Am I the only one sensing… tension here? (/▽╲)

——They’re squabbling like kits—my image of demon lords lies in ruins (·_·*)

——Not just you, sister +_+

——These two are absurd! My elegant Dragon Lord reigns supreme~~( ﹁ ﹁ )~~~

Kirin and Bai Ze intervened before the quarrel worsened. Bai Ze pressed a paw against the celestial hound’s forehead, her touch cooling Yue Xi’s fury. “Peace. We’ve weightier matters to address.”

The towering black canine wilted under the touch. “…Fine. For you,” Yue Xi muttered.

Relieved, Kirin turned to Di Yan. “Fetch the nine-tailed fox and Qiongqi.”

“Why bother? Qiongqi and Taotie are gods-know-where. As for the vixen, she’s likely sequestered in some dusty fox den, purifying her descendant’s bloodline.” Di Yan rolled his eyes. “She won’t budge for centuries.”
