Chapter 142: Title

Leng Xingwen followed Qiao Feiyu to Captain Yuan’s side. After hearing the request for assistance, he lightly furrowed his brow and remarked,

"Sound isolation? My apologies, Captain Yuan. I haven’t studied this particular discipline extensively."

"Shielding from ordinary observers would be manageable, but blocking…" His voice trailed off as he glanced skyward, his face betraying a hint of reluctance.

This was overestimating his capabilities. However diminished the Kabatu deity’s power might be, it remained a divine entity. A mere tier three practitioner couldn’t possibly obstruct its omniscient gaze.

Leng Xingwen calculated their odds silently. If Captain Yuan insisted on rescuing the prisoner, could he ensure their safe retreat? Every word they uttered might already be reaching the deity’s ears.

Captain Yuan frowned, weighing Anderl’s potential value. While rescuing the captive for valuable intelligence seemed advantageous, endangering their entire team wasn’t negotiable. Deception wasn’t his primary concern—the Heavenly Dao’s impartial mechanisms tolerated no deceit. This cosmic principle was no gullible child to be tricked.

Beside them, Leng Xingwen absently rotated a rectangular jade tablet between his fingers. The pale yellow artifact bore intricate carvings, its translucent depths shimmering with captured light.

Qiao Feiyu observed the jade tablet’s rhythmic motion with curiosity. Since their initial meeting, Young Master Leng had kept this mysterious object fastened at his waist, handling it with ceremonial care that hinted at profound significance.

"Young Master Leng."

The addressed practitioner lifted his gaze from contemplation.

Captain Yuan posed his question with grave intensity: "Should divine confrontation occur, what assurance can you provide?"

Leng Xingwen’s silence stretched. Divine confrontation? Did mortals casually discuss challenging deities? His thoughts instinctively turned to the Ghost in Red’s brazen plans—actions bordering on direct provocation against the Kabatu deity.

Clutching the concealed jade tablet tighter within his sleeve, Leng Xingwen finally responded: "Seventy percent certainty."

This percentage encompassed more than his solitary strength.

Captain Yuan’s posture relaxed marginally. "The Special Bureau will ensure appropriate compensation for this risk."

"No need for formalities," Leng Xingwen inclined his head. "Honoring commitments remains my obligation."

The Special Bureau’s network included diverse talents: Yang Xingyu among their registered extraordinary individuals, the autonomous Ghost in Red, and cooperative practitioners like himself. Prestigious sects led by ancient practitioners frequently collaborated when interests aligned—even enlightened beings required earthly resources before achieving ascension.

State cooperation provided unparalleled efficiency in mundane affairs. Yet Zhongxia’s significance transcended logistical convenience. The nation had harnessed the Awakening of Spiritual Energy’s tide, transforming crisis into renaissance.

Though initial spiritual awakenings were scarce and practitioners feeble, ancient practitioners’ guidance helped bridge the transitional scarcity. Carefully nurtured talents now sprouted nationwide, promising exponential growth in Zhongxia’s metaphysical capabilities.

This proactive adaptation to inevitable change resonated with Leng Xingwen’s philosophy. Historical records described Huaxia Nine Provinces and prosperous dynasties lost to time’s erosion, yet Zhongxia preserved cultural continuity through evolving iterations. Imperfections existed, but striving for excellence persisted.

Breaking from momentary reverie, Leng Xingwen announced: "I must attend to other matters. The decision remains yours to ponder, Captain Yuan."

His departure preceded unexpected developments—the bearded prisoner in Anderl’s adjacent cage began exhibiting peculiar behavior.

Mountain and Sea Realm.

When the luminous spheres cascaded from the heavens like celestial rain, the gathered crowd in Qingqiu watched as these radiant orbs descended gracefully, hovering motionlessly before the foxes.

Unlike Yun Han and Xiao Chen’s wariness, the foxes acted with instinctive simplicity. The moment the spheres touched ground, vulpine jaws snapped upward to devour the glowing entities whole.

This spectacle stunned the human observers. Did these spirit cultivators possess no fear of potential dangers from ingesting mysterious objects?!

The sphere-consuming foxes shook their heads and flicked their bushy tails, soon resuming playful antics. These untransformed spirit cultivators appeared indistinguishable from ordinary foxes when silent and magic-free—save for an uncanny level of adorableness.

"Seems harmless enough," Yun Han mused, eyeing the sphere floating near him. His hand stretched toward the pulsating light.

*Slap*

"What was that for?" The young man blew on his reddened knuckles, shooting an injured look at Xiao Chen who’d delivered the stinging rebuke.

"Impulsive fool," the woman retorted flatly.

A mellifluous voice piped up near their boots: "No harm done. Claim your gift."

They turned to see an alabaster serpent undulating through emerald grass, its jade-like scales shimmering.

"Mr. Bai!" Yun Han gaped. "Why this form?"

The white snake flicked a forked tongue irritably. "Personal preference. Objections?"

The humans had nearly suffered collective heart attacks earlier when they witnessed the spirit cultivator’s ingestion method. Mr. Bai’s milky-white child form had casually plucked a sphere from the air and popped it into his mouth like candy. Before any warnings could erupt, the transformed serpent had swallowed with an audible gulp and contented burp—then abruptly shrunk into his serpentine shape mid-plummet.

"Now then…" Yun Han eagerly seized his sphere. The light condensed into a jade tablet engraved with mysterious glyphs.

This first move broke the hesitation. Under Di Yun’s watchful gaze, the group gradually claimed their spheres.

Minutes passed in contemplative silence as they processed the transmitted knowledge. Murmurs eventually broke through:

"Jade material? Looks exquisite."

"Not jade—harder texture. Different mineral composition."

"This Battleground information… credible? Since when?"

"Likely concurrent with the spheres’ arrival. The realms remain disconnected—we must report this."

"Has the Dragon Lord returned?"

"Not yet."

Di Yun raised a silencing hand. "Who witnessed his departure?"

"Saw other demon lords summon him last night," someone offered. "Purpose unknown."

The leader frowned. Their Qingqiu expedition grew complicated. Yesterday’s campsite hosted by the Nine-Tailed Demon Lord now appeared transformed—vanished furniture, endlessly repeating vistas. The realm itself seemed to breathe deception.

The Nine-Tailed Demon Lord had vanished, along with Hu Mei who’d been cradled in her arms.

Captain Di Yun crouched beside the half-raised Mr. Bai, worrying they might lose the Special Bureau’s sole fox spirit during this Qingqiu visit. "Mr. Bai," he inquired, "any way to locate the Dragon Lord?"

Mr. Bai’s tail swished gracefully as he glided toward the frolicking foxes. "I’ll consult the locals. They’ll know how to find Her Majesty the White Fox Demon Lord."

In Xiao Tianji’s live stream:

—Mr. Bai’s elegance! My heart flutters~~~

—Captain Di’s crouching pose? Adorkable!

—Take your time returning from the Battleground! Show us more spirit realm traditions!

—When will spirit and human realms interconnect? Need fluffball cuddles (¯﹃¯)

—Human cultivators reek of desperation /snarl

—Spirit cultivators = adorably clueless ╭(╯^╰)╮

—Clueless with extra sass, hehe

—Since when ‘spirit realm’ became a thing? _(:з」∠)_

—Mountain & Sea Realm residents: spirit cultivators + Demonic Beasts. Makes sense→_→

—Fair’s fair – they call ours ‘human realm’ after all~~~

—Counting minutes without Dragon Lord’s presence…

—Where’s promised Xuanfeng appearance??

—Bird tribe’s losing feathers over this!

—1 spiritual stone: PAN TO KIRIN DEMON LORD’S ROAR!!!

—2 stones for Bai Ze close-up! Omniscient legend deserves screen time!

Beneath Qingqiu’s thundering waterfall:

Torrents crashed into crystalline pools before meandering through serpentine streams. The Moon-eating Celestial Dog arched its obsidian-furred neck, golden eyes tracking the cliffside figure. "What secrets do you suppose they share, Bai Ze?"

The luminous white creature barely opened its eyes. "Unknowable."

"You feign ignorance," the canine pressed, "When all knowledge flows through you?"

"Ignorance," came the languid reply, "blissfully excludes your vexations."

The celestial dog’s growl rumbled like distant thunder, moon-devouring jaws itching to snap shut – if only this smug scholar weren’t invincible.

Miles downstream, the black qilin’s obsidian scales shimmered as he addressed the three-legged golden crow. "The Awakening of Spiritual Energy unveils our Battleground of Ten Thousand Clans. Who imagined we’d witness Heavenly Dao inscriptions from ancestral tales?"

Di Yan’s molten gold eyes narrowed. "You covet the Battleground, Kirin?"

"How long," the qilin countered, "since either of us knew progress?" The silence between them crystallized into resolve.
