Chapter 70: Title

Gu Hengbo continued shaking her leg and glanced at Lian Rong, "Mind your image, husband~."

Lian Rong tilted her head and cleared her throat, "I really don’t know what ‘fool’ is." With the word ‘fool’ first, it must be an insult.

"Are you calling me a fool?" Someone slammed the table, one foot awkwardly resting on the seat, looking like a ready fighter.

Actually, the voices of the few people weren’t loud, and apart from their fancy clothes, they wouldn’t attract much attention. But Gu Hengbo’s outburst startled everyone eating in the hall.

Just look at the young man in the corner, who turned red with a piece of meat stuck in his throat.

Helan Yin saw that things were not right and hurriedly pulled Gu Hengbo back down, "What are you doing? She just said ‘fool.’ What’s wrong with that?"

Though Gu Hengbo always acknowledged that she was a fool, being insulted like this for the first time made her blood boil, and she shot a glare at Lian Rong, wishing she could ‘eat’ her up.

Lian Rong felt quite pleased inside; she had always liked how this person occasionally got furious, looking like a little cat with its claws out. If they weren’t in public, she would have pulled her into her arms long ago. Just thinking about it, her gaze towards Gu Hengbo changed, becoming hot and intense.

Gu Hengbo felt uneasy under her gaze; this old woman must be crazy, looking at her sweetly even after being shouted at. Surely, something was off.

As the waiter announced the dishes, delicious meals were brought to their table.

At that moment, Helan Yin and Lianqing, who weren’t even that hungry a moment ago, immediately diverted their attention, staring hungrily at the steaming dishes, swallowing hard.

The moment the food arrived, Gu Hengbo had her eyes on the boiled duck. Without any sense of being a crown princess or a royal aunt, she selfishly moved the large bowl closer to herself, claiming it.

The other two exchanged very complex looks, thinking, this person really is…

Lian Rong watched Gu Hengbo and felt a bit guilty. Had she been starving in the royal residence all this time? How could she do something so unbefitting her status? She pointed at the fried shrimp next to her and asked, "Ah Heng, would you like some?"

Gu Hengbo, while protecting the large bowl, glanced at the shrimp and nodded, swallowing. "Yes."

Lian Rong felt helpless and guiltier. She took out a handkerchief to wipe her hands carefully and started peeling the shrimp. "You’re so thin, you should eat more." In just a few moments, she peeled the shrimp and held it up to Gu Hengbo’s mouth. "Here, open wide."

Gu Hengbo was stunned, her mouth opened in confusion. Lian Rong was actually peeling shrimp for her and feeding her?

Lianqing was immediately unhappy. Seeing that the royal uncle was in a good mood today, she pouted and acted spoiled, "Auntie is being biased; I want some too."

Auntie?! Lian Rong squinted her eyes, turning her gaze to Lianqing.

Lianqing sensed something was off and pointed at the real troublemaker, "It’s sister who told me to call you that."

Gu Hengbo’s heart skipped a beat, her gaze darting, not daring to look at that person.

Unexpectedly, Lian Rong didn’t get angry at all; she simply said, "’Sister’ is right," emphasizing the word sister.

Gu Hengbo buried her head in a duck leg. Lian Rong continued peeling shrimp, placing pieces in the bowls of the three ‘children.’ Finally, she noticed a certain someone gazing longingly at the fish quietly lying on the plate. She had no words for it; when had Prince Rong’s residence ever treated her poorly, making her look disgraceful? How could she have married someone like this?

Lian Rong simply shifted over to sit on Gu Hengbo’s right side, carefully removing the fish bones, and when she was done, she piled the fish meat into Gu Hengbo’s bowl.

Gu Hengbo looked at Lian Rong in a mix of confusion and concern. Did this woman really like her? How so considerate!

Lian Rong picked up a piece of bamboo shoot and put it in her mouth. Before she could chew, she held Gu Hengbo’s head and pressed her lips against hers, feeding her the piece of shoot. Then she licked around her lips, "Eat more vegetables; too much meat will make you feel sick."

Gu Hengbo’s expression twisted, while Lianqing and Helan Yin were both stunned. People in the hall had already been glancing their way since Gu Hengbo slammed the table earlier, but now, a few even dropped their dishes.

Everyone was left in a daze; how could society allow this? What was with these handsome men turning to each other?

Once Helan Yin snapped back, her face immediately turned bright red, staring at the two with a stutter, "You… you… you two."

Gu Hengbo grabbed Lian Rong’s handkerchief and wiped her mouth randomly. Lian Rong’s unpredictable behavior could drive anyone crazy; she could be sure this was all intentional.

As they left the restaurant, Gu Hengbo rubbed her stomach. She hadn’t even eaten a proper meal.

Lian Rong walked behind her, seeing her frustrated expression, her mood lifted. She reached out and pinched her bottom.

Gu Hengbo was about to burst out in anger when she saw a familiar figure. She quickly put on a serious face, “It’s A Che! How did you get here?”

Li Che bowed and clasped his hands, saying, “The carriage is ready. Please follow me.”

Gu Hengbo glanced back at Lian Rong, “I usually see you as cold and heartless, but it seems you have thought this through. Are you worried about tiring me out?”

Lian Rong pressed her hand on Gu Hengbo’s head, “Don’t cause trouble, hurry up and get in the carriage.”

Gu Hengbo swatted her hand away and said without much expression, “Don’t be so nice to me.” She didn’t need it at all.

Lian Rong watched Gu Hengbo’s back and felt something shift inside her. She strangely recalled a saying: The hardest thing to seek is what one cannot have. She found it funny; after living for over thirty years, besides Duan Rulan, she had nothing to confirm this saying. And Duan Rulan was already married by then, making it quite hopeless. As for Gu Meisheng, she was very naive, carefree, and sometimes silly. Since making that decision, Lian Rong had never thought about living a good life with someone. If she were to find someone, it would be someone who could fight alongside her, not someone who would only bring her trouble and be useless. But what was happening to her recently? Despite the increasing chaos, she still had the leisure to take Gu Hengbo out to play.

Perhaps she was worried that Gu Hengbo would get bored and overthink things, or maybe, escape?

“Hey, silly, are you getting in the carriage or not?” Gu Hengbo waited a long time without seeing Lian Rong move, and thought it was ridiculous that this woman was standing in the street like a fool.

Lian Rong snapped back to reality and casually glanced at her, “Did you call me?”

Gu Hengbo looked up to the sky in frustration, clasped her hands together, and with a sincere expression, said, “Yes, my queen.”

Lian Rong examined her, and at that moment, the expressionless person who said ‘don’t be so nice to me’ seemed to have vanished. She felt that being with Gu Hengbo had made her a bit abnormal. Thousands of words turned into a sigh as she reached out and patted Gu Hengbo’s head, “Let’s go.”

Gu Hengbo unexpectedly caught sight of the deep pools of Lian Rong’s eyes, overflowing with tenderness, making her ears flush. She said nothing and obediently followed her towards the carriage.

However, all these changes were clearly observed by Helan Yin, who felt a blend of emotions, a bit of sadness. The two of them together were quite a contradiction; one was graceful and enigmatic, while the other was lively and pure. She felt out of her depth; perhaps she couldn’t even stand as firmly as this little princess in front of them. Moreover, this Princess of Prince Rong really was…

“Lian Rong, aren’t you getting greedy?” someone shouted in anger from behind, as expected.

Helan Yin glanced awkwardly at Lianqing opposite her. She thought, maybe it’s best to let this go; this Princess of Prince Rong really was…

“Lian Rong, are you coming or not?”

Helan Yin clenched her fists. She decided to urge her father to return to Xiliang as soon as she got back.

In the carriage, Gu Hengbo swayed side to side, leaning out to chat with Li Che. She kept asking, “Didn’t you notice your money pouch is missing?” Of course, she couldn’t say it directly and had to ask subtly, but Li Che was straightforward, not the type to understand hints.

At this point, Gu Hengbo could barely contain herself. She leaned against the edge of the carriage, crossed her legs, and whistled, “A Che, lend me some money, okay?”

Li Che focused on guiding the reins; in fact, when Gu Hengbo leaned out to ‘flirt’ with him, he started to sweat. Although he hadn’t had much interaction, he could guess that the prince often seemed troubled by this princess.

“Your highness, my little amount of money probably wouldn’t catch your eye.”

Look at what he said! He must be broke! This boy was a bit pitiful, knowing that his prince stole his money, yet he could only keep quiet about it. No worries, I’ll help you get justice, Gu Hengbo thought to herself.

“It’s okay, I don’t mind if it’s little; just bring it out. I’ll have the prince pay you back later,” she exclaimed boldly.

Inside the carriage, Lian Rong twitched her mouth, feeling like she had married a spendthrift.

Suddenly, Li Che fished around in his clothes and said, “Your highness, I lost my money.” His tone was filled with surprise, as if losing money was the most astonishing thing.

Gu Hengbo looked at him with disdain, even pretending so poorly. Clearing her throat, she was about to reveal the truth when Lian Rong’s voice came from inside.

“A Che, the money pouch you had was taken by me. I was in a hurry, and the princess kept shouting that she wanted to go shopping, so I didn’t have time to tell you. Just go to Qian Yue later to claim what you lost.” Lian Rong said slowly.

What the heck! When did I drag you shopping? Gu Hengbo glared at Lian Rong after diving back into the carriage, about to speak when the carriage suddenly jolted violently, knocking her body outward.

At that moment, the carriage had already traveled far from the royal city. In the blink of an eye, Gu Hengbo was scooped up, and she heard Lian Rong’s cool voice by her ear, “A Che, take good care of them.”

Gu Hengbo rubbed her dizzy forehead. When she opened her eyes, there were several women in white around her, with the leader tall and elegant in white, her face covered by a veil. Just by her figure, it was clear she was a beauty.

Gu Hengbo blinked, her arms wrapping around Lian Rong’s neck, “Are they here to kill you again?”

Lian Rong smiled slightly, giving her a quick kiss, “It seems they aren’t.”

Gu Hengbo’s eyes brightened, and before she could speak, the woman in white said coldly, “Hand over Gu Meisheng, and the rest of you can leave.”
