Chapter 54: Title
When Tang Fang fainted, Gu Hengbo instinctively reached out to catch her, but Lian Rong pulled her back. “Wuyang, take her downstairs to rest first. I have a warming medicine, and I’ll give it to her shortly.”
Wuyang nodded and took the unconscious Tang Fang out.
“Will she be in danger?” Gu Hengbo asked.
Lian Rong wrapped her arms around her, smiling, “If she can’t endure this little hardship, what use is there in keeping her?”
“I can’t stand it. Why are you still keeping me here?” Gu Hengbo looked up at her. Is this person’s heart made of ice? Even ice melts when it meets the sun!
Lian Rong smiled and playfully lifted her chin. “Who said you can’t stand it? You are much better in bed than they are, so of course, I want to keep you.” (What she said was very misleading.)
Gu Hengbo glared. “Lian Rong, I want to be on top next time.”
Lian Rong held her tighter, her warm lips pressing against her ear. “It seems my dear is eager for the next time already, but those watching the show said it’s fine for you to be on top.”
“Really?”
Lian Rong kissed her cheek. “You’re still on the receiving end.”
The girl’s background suddenly turned to blazing flames. “Let them go to hell.”
“Don’t! This king quite likes them.”
Before Gu Hengbo could lift her feet, Lian Rong’s figure had already darted far away, accompanied by an incredibly seductive laugh.
“Just you wait!” the girl roared angrily from behind.
When Gu Hengbo learned that Wuyang wouldn’t be following them back to Prince Rong’s residence, she felt a little disappointed. They got along pretty well, and having her around would be nice. At Prince Rong’s residence, there was no one she could talk to, which was really frustrating.
Throughout the journey, Gu Hengbo didn’t say much. After getting off the carriage, Lian Rong couldn’t help but curiously ask, “Did I neglect you and make you unhappy?” (Hey, it was clearly the other way around.)
Gu Hengbo looked at her with a mournful gaze. “Why don’t you marry multiple wives? Then I would have someone to talk to!” It’s lonely without anyone to argue with. In the harem, a crowd of women circling around you, filled with jealousy? Just thinking about it makes me excited!
Lian Rong’s mouth twitched, and she smacked her forehead. “Stop talking nonsense, or I will summon you to my bed every day.”
“I’m sorry!”
“…”
Qian Yue led everyone from Prince Rong’s residence, kneeling in unison to welcome the two ladies. “We wait for the prince and crown princess to return.”
Gu Hengbo smiled and stepped forward to help Qian Yue up. “Alright, alright, we’re all family here. No need to kneel for no reason, get up!”
Qian Yue smiled, feeling relieved. It seemed nothing bad had happened, which made her worry for the new crown princess for nothing.
The others also stood up. Although they didn’t know what had happened, they could clearly see that the prince had left with a dark expression, but now he was back with the new crown princess looking quite happy. They secretly thought that the new crown princess must be quite capable, and they praised her in their hearts.
Gu Hengbo, of course, didn’t know what the servants were thinking. If she did, she would have felt like spitting blood. After all, she had worked hard to change the situation to what it was today. They wouldn’t want to hear the painful and tear-jerking story behind it.
The first thing Gu Hengbo did when she returned to Prince Rong’s residence was lie in bed to catch up on sleep. Ignoring Lian Rong calling her from behind, she pushed the door open and headed straight for the big bed, kicked off her shoes, and fell asleep.
When Lian Rong came in from behind, she could already hear the light sound of Gu Hengbo snoring.
As Qian Yue walked in, ready to speak, she saw Lian Rong shake her head, signaling her to keep quiet. Qian Yue nodded understandingly and stepped back outside.
Lian Rong looked at the person sprawled on the bed, fast asleep. She knew Gu Hengbo was tired from the journey. As she thought of something, a faint smile appeared on her lips. She grabbed a light blanket from the side and covered her, then she felt assured as she stepped out.
Qian Yue stood outside the door and, upon seeing her come out, respectfully called out, “Prince.”
“I won’t be here for the next few days. Everything is well in the residence, right?”
“All is good.”
Lian Rong nodded in response.
Qian Yue furrowed her brows slightly. “A few days ago, Wuyang wrote about the happenings at the mountain villa.”
Lian Rong looked up at the bright sun and sighed. Summer came so quickly, which explained why she had been feeling drowsy these past few days.
"Prince, what do you plan to do about Liuli Palace?"
Lian Rong stretched lazily and leaned against the pillar in the corridor. "I will handle it as needed."
Qian Yue noticed her laziness and said, "Didn’t you have your eye on that land long ago? Why not take this opportunity?"
"I have already sent people from Yu there. That land is truly good; they should have cleared it out by now."
Qian Yue’s eyes were cold. "A group of overconfident fools, daring to break into Jiulong Villa. It seems the fate of Qianying Palace wasn’t enough to warn them. Liuli Palace is barely hanging on now; it might be better to eliminate them directly to prevent future troubles."
Lian Rong sighed. "When Wuyang speaks like this, I can still consider her youthful exuberance. But what about you? Do you remember why I kept both of you by my side instead of sending you to the villa to do the duties of the nine guardians?" "Qian Yue, as you said, Liuli Palace is already living on borrowed time. We took over their territory and now we should drive them out completely; it’s not kind."
Qian Yue thought to herself when did you ever act kindly, but she wouldn’t say that out loud.
After a pause, Lian Rong continued, "Do you know why I’m not pursuing Liuli Palace? Because the people from Liuli Palace are the same as those from Youmeng Tower—they are his people. They intentionally point the blame at Prince Rong’s residence, hinting that their backer is Prince Rong, making Jiulong Villa face Prince Rong’s residence directly. Ha, they have calculated well."
Qian Yue’s heart was already tumultuous. Over the years, they had never directly confronted Youmeng Tower, as they still had some fear of Jiulong Villa. But Prince Rong’s residence was different; Youmeng Tower had secretly used countless underhanded tactics against Lian Rong, which was why the guards of Prince Rong’s residence had become stricter, while Jiulong Villa had become much looser, otherwise, Liuli Palace wouldn’t have found an opportunity.
"What should we do next?" Qian Yue asked.
"Wait."
"Wait?"
Lian Rong rubbed her waist and stepped down the stairs.
"Prince."
"This king is going to the palace."
Another trip to the palace? "But Crown Princess…"
Lian Rong pulled out an exquisite little folding fan from her pocket. "Don’t worry, this king is going to visit the second royal nephew. I haven’t seen him in a long time; I want to chat with him." She paused and turned back to look at Qian Yue. "When the Crown Princess wakes up, remember to tell her. If she wants to come, have someone bring her over."
Watching Lian Rong disappear down the corridor, Qian Yue murmured to herself. Usually, she would rush straight to Mingluan Palace when she returned. Why was she now going to find the second prince for a chat?
