Chapter 35: Title
“I want to go to the restroom.” Gu Hengbo paced back and forth in the room, looking desperate.
Lian Rong glanced at the door. "Do you want me to accompany you?"
While pacing, Gu Hengbo shot a glance at her. “Can you call me something else?”
Lian Rong understood. "Do you want me to accompany you, my lady?" She didn’t mind changing; that title felt tiring.
“Don’t call me my lady!” Gu Hengbo glared.
Lian Rong shrugged. “Madam?”
Gu Hengbo felt like her bladder was about to burst; her face fell. “Just call me by my name, please. I can’t hold it anymore; I’m going now!” If she didn’t solve this soon, she would become the first person in history to die from holding in their urine.
Fortunately, as soon as Gu Hengbo stepped outside, she saw a young servant holding a tray, about to knock on the door of the next room. She was delighted; it seemed fate wanted her to live a little longer.
Gu Hengbo winked at the young servant and whispered, “Hey, come here.”
The young servant looked at her like she was crazy, but noticing she was quite pretty, he walked over and politely asked, “Miss, is there something you need?”
Gu Hengbo nodded vigorously. “Where is the restroom?”
The young servant, embarrassed, stiffly pointed in a direction. “Miss, go downstairs and through the back; the restroom is in the backyard.”
Gu Hengbo looked gratefully at the young servant and pointed to the room where Lian Rong was. “The person in there is wealthy and has too much money to spend. I won’t give you a tip; you should ask her. But remember, don’t stare at her face when you go in; she doesn’t like that.” Gu Hengbo covered her stomach and ran downstairs, then suddenly stopped halfway. “Oh, I forgot to mention, she is my wife.” Even though she was desperate, Gu Hengbo couldn’t help but play a little prank.
The young servant stood at the doorway for some time, even forgetting to deliver tea to the next room. Strange things happened every year, but this year was particularly odd. Today, the richest person in Dongyin, the emperor’s sister, Prince Rong, just married the fool from the Prime Minister’s residence, and now there was a girl coming to seek a man. She even called the person inside her wife; she herself was a woman. Besides, where did you see a couple both seeking companionship together? How strange, too strange.
However, after much thought, the young servant figured that the girl was just in a hurry to go to the restroom and hadn’t said she was leaving; she was probably telling the truth. Could it be that she really had a wife in there? He wanted to take a look; perhaps he could earn a little money since he had just told her the restroom’s location. With that thought, the young servant didn’t think too much and set the tray down, knocking on the door.
“Come in.”
The young servant was delighted; it really was a woman’s voice. Without saying a word, he pushed the door open.
Lian Rong sat at the table, drinking water. “Is there something you need?”
The young servant originally wanted to look up to see who she was, but he remembered what Gu Hengbo had said, and kept his head down. “Oh, it’s just that a girl asked for—”
Before he finished, Lian Rong interrupted, “What girl? What do you want?”
The young servant noted her suddenly raised tone, sounding a bit displeased. “Just now—”
“What do you mean ‘just now’? You’ve been sitting here for so long and haven’t even prepared a pot of tea? Go get your boss!” Lian Rong smiled, her tone icy.
The young servant was too scared to breathe, thinking, why were you not drinking tea just now? Though he thought this, he wouldn’t dare say it. Remembering something, he bowed, “Please wait a moment. Your tea is just outside; I will fetch it for you.” Saying this, he ran out and returned with a tray and teapot.
Lian Rong watched as the young servant, without even grabbing the tray, dashed off. She smirked; this woman really was something else. Hadn’t she told her before? She never carried money when going out.
Gu Hengbo squeezed her nose as she emerged from the restroom. If there was one downside to ancient times, it was this restroom, which was frustrating. She could adapt to everything, yet she still couldn’t accept this. Because of that, she didn’t know how many times she had suffered due to needing to go. She didn’t have many bad habits; she didn’t recognize people or beds, just the restroom.
Returning to the front hall, she had to pass through a winding corridor. Just a couple of steps in, she heard voices ahead, seemingly arguing. The two parties were deliberately lowering their voices, but since they were not far away, Gu Hengbo could hear them perfectly.
“Lord Liu wants to redeem you? Don’t joke with me; who do you think you are? You aren’t even as good as the girls from Yaoyue Pavilion; they’re just looking for a bit of fun, so don’t get your hopes up.”
“He said he would redeem me, and he will.”
"Redeem you? His wife is famous for being fierce; it’s a miracle if she doesn’t kill you," someone said.
"No, no way," Gu Hengbo replied.
Just as Gu Hengbo was getting into the conversation, someone suddenly hugged her from behind and covered her mouth. She widened her eyes, wanting to shout but unable to make a sound.
"It’s me," said Lian Rong!
Gu Hengbo pushed her hand away with force and whispered angrily, "What are you doing? You scared me! I thought someone was going to kidnap me!"
Lian Rong pulled her back a little. "We need to go."
"Why?"
"It’s so late; do you want to spend the night here?"
Gu Hengbo looked back and saw those two people still talking, their voices louder than before. "They are arguing. I want to listen a bit longer. That Lord Liu wants to redeem one of those men; it’s quite surprising, isn’t it? Has the ancient world become so open?"
"He is the Minister of Justice. You can’t associate with him. Wake up!"
"Just take care of yourself; don’t worry about me."
"Minister of Justice? Do you know him?" Gu Hengbo asked Lian Rong, lifting her head.
Lian Rong glanced at her. "I know him. Why?"
Gu Hengbo looked nosy. "Didn’t you just hear? They said your friend wants to redeem a young man."
"We’re not friends; he’s just an old man."
"Huh?"
Ignoring the astonished Gu Hengbo, Lian Rong turned and walked in another direction.
It took Gu Hengbo a moment to react. "Hey, hey, that way is the restroom; are you going to take care of nature’s call?"
"Back to the residence."
Back to the residence? Gu Hengbo ran to catch up. "But we haven’t paid yet! It’s too rude to just leave."
Lian Rong looked back at her. "Wasn’t it your treat?"
Gu Hengbo nodded. "Yes, I said it was my treat, but I didn’t say I would pay."
"This king doesn’t carry money when going out."
Gu Hengbo, hands on her hips, exclaimed, "Lian Rong, are you even a man?"
"This king is not a man."
"You are."
"I’m not."
"You are."
"I’m not."
…
The two of them bickered all the way to Prince Rong’s residence, Gu Hengbo’s pretty face flushed with anger. "Lian Rong, you really are not a man."
“Thank you.”
“Don’t you have the dignity that a man should have?”
“I’ve told you so many times, I am a woman.”
Gu Hengbo was too angry to argue, and said gloomy, “Alright, I can’t argue with you; I don’t have your thick skin.”
Seeing her look defeated, Lian Rong couldn’t help but laugh.
“What are you laughing at?” Gu Hengbo said angrily.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Go away.”
