Chapter 34: Title
Gu Hengbo ran to a small corner and peeked at Lian Rong asking for directions like a thief. She didn’t know if Lian Rong’s eyes were bad or what, but the lady she asked didn’t show the disdain Gu Hengbo expected; instead, she looked both indignant and sympathetic towards Lian Rong. Then, she put her handkerchief to her mouth shyly. Lian Rong was quite something, not even letting the aunt escape her charm.
Lian Rong came back with a smile. "I asked! Let’s go."
Gu Hengbo frowned. "What did you say?" She had even stirred the aunt’s feelings.
Lian Rong patted her head. "I told her my wife stole money from home and went to find a man. I wanted to look for her, but I didn’t know where to go."
Gu Hengbo’s lips twitched. "And then?"
"Then she told me where that place is, and even shared her home address."
Wow, it turned out the aunt was the one getting flustered. Wait? “Who did you say was looking for a man?”
"My wife."
"You" bastard.
"Are you my wife?" Lian Rong asked with a smile.
"I don’t want to talk. Let’s go," Gu Hengbo huffily turned to leave.
Lian Rong’s smile grew wider; it actually seemed not so bad this way.
Gu Hengbo looked up at the sign upstairs and couldn’t help but murmur, "It really is an empty sign."
Lian Rong hugged her waist from behind and kissed her cheek. "Let’s go. In this world, it’s probably just the two of us wandering around together like this." Just like a wedding night.
Gu Hengbo slapped her hand away. "No taking advantage of me without my permission," she said and then marched into the building.
Lian Rong stood outside for a while, smiled, and walked in too.
As soon as Gu Hengbo entered, a man approached her. "Are you alone, miss?"
Gu Hengbo looked at the man in white and her eyes brightened. She waved her hand. "No, there’s another one behind." Just as she finished speaking, Lian Rong walked in.
The man paused for a moment when he saw Lian Rong, then smiled slightly. "Is it you two?"
Gu Hengbo nodded. "Yes, sir, please lead the way."
The man in white nodded slightly, gestured for them to follow, and led the way upstairs.
As Gu Hengbo followed, she observed the place. Unlike the noisy brothels, this place was quiet and elegant, perfect for people looking to relax after a tiring day at work. Although she and Lian Rong had entered as a man and a woman, the man in white didn’t show any strange expressions; he seemed to be quite experienced.
The man in white stopped at the door of a room, opened it, and walked in. "Do you two need to name a specific gentleman here?"
Gu Hengbo smiled. "It’s our first time here; just let the sir take care of it."
The man in white nodded. "Alright, please have a seat and wait a moment."
"Okay."
As soon as the man in white left, Gu Hengbo turned around and opened the window, taking a breath of fresh air.
Lian Rong sat down, poured herself a cup of water from the teapot, and asked, "Have you become nervous again?"
Gu Hengbo shot her an annoyed glance. "What do you mean, ‘nervous again’? That man spoke politely and had a gentle demeanor, so I felt a bit… you know." She had no immunity to such men. Speaking of which, the Second Prince really did suit her taste; if he didn’t live in the palace, she might have considered him.
Lian Rong took a sip from her cup and replied casually, "You really don’t take this king seriously, fantasizing about other men right in front of me."
Gu Hengbo paused for a moment, realizing that she had gone a bit too far. Still, Lian Rong seemed to be in a good mood today. "Well, let’s go."
Lian Rong set her cup down. "Why leave now that we’re here? But let me say this: if you dare to come to a place like this alone without me, I won’t let you off easy."
Gu Hengbo sat across from her, her face scrunching up. "Maybe we should really go." She didn’t want Lian Rong to get angry and abandon Madam Dou at the Prime Minister’s residence to fend for herself.
Lian Rong looked at her. "Do you think this king is that unworthy in your eyes?"
Gu Hengbo was taken aback and quickly shook her head. "No, you’re great."
Just as Lian Rong was about to speak, they heard the sound of porcelain shattering next door, followed by a voice begging for mercy. The sound wasn’t loud, but this place was unusually quiet, and any noise could be heard very clearly.
Gu Hengbo perked up, looking at Lian Rong. "Are they fighting?"
Lian Rong wore a strange smile. "What do you think?"
Gu Hengbo didn’t respond, and the sounds of moaning continued. After a moment, she realized what they were and felt a blush creep up her neck. What was it like for two men to share intimacy?
"Please, my lord, please spare me. It hurts so much."
Gu Hengbo couldn’t take it anymore. "No way, we have to leave now."
Lian Rong looked at her. "Why? Didn’t you say you wanted to come here?"
Before Gu Hengbo could answer, there was a noise at the door, and a handsome young man wearing a light pink outfit walked in. Upon seeing Gu Hengbo, the young man did not show any surprise; he must have already been told about her by the man in white. However, when he saw Lian Rong, Gu Hengbo clearly noticed his eyes widen.
The noise next door continued, and the young man naturally heard it as well. His bright eyes glanced at Lian Rong, and a blush rose to his cheeks. Gu Hengbo could already picture Lian Rong teasing and embracing this handsome man. Ah, she must not think about it any longer.
The young man bowed slightly. "I’m Liu Yue."
"Hey, no need to be so formal. Just play a couple of tunes you know," Gu Hengbo said, speaking before Lian Rong could. That’s what the book said.
Lian Rong glanced at her. "You seem pretty experienced. Been to places like this before?"
Gu Hengbo looked at the handsome man. "Not at all, it’s my first time. I’ve only seen it on TV." Of course, she meant watching female courtesans.
Lian Rong smiled but remained silent.
The young man stole another glance at Lian Rong and walked to his performance spot. He sat in front of the guzheng, and Gu Hengbo almost drooled at the sight of his hands. Why did all the men here have such beautiful hands? It made her feel embarrassed as a woman.
Gu Hengbo didn’t listen closely to what the young man played but knew it sounded good. She was too busy watching him. As the music ended, Gu Hengbo was about to speak when Lian Rong suddenly stood up and walked toward the young man.
Gu Hengbo’s breath caught in her throat. She couldn’t believe Lian Rong would do something bold; he had just finished one song, and she couldn’t hold herself back? Hadn’t she said she didn’t like men?
Lian Rong bent down to whisper something in the young man’s ear. Moments later, his ears, neck, and face turned completely red. Just when Gu Hengbo thought Lian Rong was about to do something outrageous, she saw the young man’s face pale. He stood up, panic evident on his face, bowed to Lian Rong, and hurriedly exited.
Gu Hengbo snapped back to reality, realizing the young man was already gone. "What did you say to him?"
Lian Rong turned around, smiling. "I asked him if he liked me. He said yes, so I told him I’m actually a woman."
Gu Hengbo was momentarily stunned, then forced a laugh. "That’s not funny."
Lian Rong raised an eyebrow. "This king is not telling a joke; of course, it’s not funny."
If Lian Rong said she was a woman, the boy would not have run away. The key is which woman she referred to, so she cannot be blamed.
Gu Hengbo picked up the cup Lian Rong had used and took a sip of water. "Prince, don’t you think your behavior is strange? If you don’t like it, we can leave right away." How could she casually say something like she was a woman? If she had to say she was a man, she wouldn’t be able to do it unless, "Hey? You aren’t really a woman, are you?"
Lian Rong was in a good mood, her expression more mischievous than usual. "Whether I am a woman or not, the crown princess can find out for herself."
