Chapter 50: Abducted in Broad Daylight
Inside Zhou Garden, Bai Zhi Yan remained utterly unaware of the approaching danger.
She was pushing the swing, beaming with joy.
Zhao Yuan silently channeled his spiritual energy, his steps swift as the wind as he burst forth.
He arrived in the middle of the scene almost in the blink of an eye.
The moment he appeared, Bai Zhi Yan spotted him. Her face paled in fright, her mouth opening to cry out.
But Zhao Yuan was quicker. Bolstered by spiritual energy, he was like a gust of wind, swooping past and landing right before her.
Before Bai Zhi Yan could utter a sound, his hand chopped down with pinpoint accuracy onto her snowy white nape, knocking her unconscious. Then he scooped her up and retreated rapidly.
The little ones stared dumbfounded. Only after the figure vanished did little Chang An suddenly shout, "Mother! Little mama’s been taken!"
Lin Qing Han, who had been recuperating inside the house, heard little Chang An’s cry. In one swift motion, she sat up in bed, leapt down directly from the second floor.
Just in time to see a figure carrying Bai Zhi Yan dash out of Zhou Garden.
Lin Qing Han’s expression turned icy. She drove the spiritual energy within her body and swiftly gave chase.
"What happened? What happened?"
Others rushed immediately to the group of little ones, unaware of the events.
Soon, Lin Qing Han returned to Zhou Garden, her face grim and expression serious. "Zhi Yan was taken," she announced gravely.
Though she possessed cultivation at the fifth layer of Qi Refinement, she couldn’t sustain prolonged external use of spiritual energy. Furthermore, her pursuer possessed Wind spiritual roots and was incredibly fast. She had barely chased for any distance before he shook her off.
"What?" Lin Yi Yi and the others wore expressions of utter disbelief.
This was within the Lin Family estate. Who could be so audacious as to abduct someone in broad daylight?
"I’ll go notify her husband," Lin Zi Er declared bluntly before hurrying away.
"I’ll report this to the family," Lin Lan added, departing as well.
In the courtyard, little Chang An and the others had never witnessed such a scene. Seeing Bai Zhi Yan taken away, they panicked instantly, bursting into loud wails.
Lin Qing Han and the others hurried over, picking them up and beginning to soothe them.
Meanwhile, over at the alchemy room, Zhou Luo found Lin Zhi Shou’s lesson incredibly tedious, silently counting the minutes in his mind.
Just then, a servant knocked on the door.
"What is it?" Lin Zhi Shou frowned, his teaching interrupted.
"Sir, your wife is looking for you," the servant replied.
"My wife?" Zhou Luo startled, shooting to his feet. His expression turned grave.
Could something be wrong?
He clasped his hands towards Lin Zhi Shou. "Master, I must attend to this."
"Go," Lin Zhi Shou nodded, sensing something amiss.
Zhou Luo instantly sprinted out of the alchemy room, arriving at the gate of Shouchun Garden.
There he saw Lin Fei Ying, her face etched with urgency.
"Zi Er, what happened at home?" Zhou Luo blurted out.
"Zhi Yan has been kidnapped," Lin Zi Er said, her voice trembling.
"What?" Zhou Luo was shocked and horrified.
He immediately rushed towards Zhou Garden.
On the way, Zhou Luo’s mind was spinning rapidly.
The first thought that came to him was that Bai Zhi Yan’s identity had been exposed, and then family members had taken her away.
But on second thought, it didn’t seem right.
After all, if it were family members, why would they kidnap her?
Could it be that someone knew her identity and intended to use it as leverage against him?
But Bai Zhi Yan had never left Zhou Garden—who could have known?
Or was this a warning from the main family?
Countless doubts flooded into his mind, and Zhou Luo felt a headache coming on.
When he arrived at Zhou Garden, he saw guards dressed in Lin Family attire already present in the courtyard.
At the head was a middle-aged man wearing a black robe, with a gaze as sharp as an eagle, deep-set wrinkles between his eyebrows, looking highly authoritative.
This was truly the captain of the Lin Family guard, Lin Zhi Wei.
His primary duty was to protect the family’s internal safety.
Now that such a major incident had occurred, he naturally had to appear in person.
Upon seeing him, Zhou Luo clasped his fists in greeting: "Lord Lin."
Lin Zhi Wei stared at him and said coldly: "Zhou Luo, exactly what is the background of that woman you brought?"
The family hadn’t seen anyone kidnapped in hundreds of years.
There must be something suspicious about this.
After questioning others at Zhou Garden, Lin Zhi Wei pointed all suspicion towards Zhou Luo.
Zhou Luo would never reveal Bai Zhi Yan’s true identity, so he simply said: "Sir, Zhi Yan is just a poor woman who was trafficked; I really don’t know."
The story of how he heroically saved a beauty in Maple Leaf City and later married her had long been known to some important figures.
Therefore, these words of his were naturally fine.
Lin Zhi Wei frowned.
That the other party dared to kidnap someone openly must mean they had something up their sleeve.
He fixed a scrutinizing look on Zhou Luo: "If I find out you’re hiding anything, you know the consequences."
"Sir, I truly don’t know," Zhou Luo said helplessly, spreading his hands.
To this, Lin Zhi Wei said nothing more; he just left two guards behind and led the others to continue tracking in the direction the person had left.
As soon as this guard captain departed, Zhou Luo quickly walked to the main hall.
Upon learning that all his wives and concubines and children were safe, Zhou Luo let out a long sigh of relief.
It seemed the other party had indeed targeted Bai Zhi Yan.
Could it be those who abducted her?
Zhou Luo suddenly recalled the burly man from before.
But judging by that burly man’s behavior, it seemed unknown to him who Bai Zhi Yan really was.
Yet since she had been brought here like that, perhaps someone else was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
After calming down his wives and concubines, Zhou Luo headed straight for the alchemy room on the third floor.
He retrieved a black vial from his backpack.
Inside was Second Level Bone Corruption Powder he had crafted himself, a low-grade poison.
This was an exceptionally vicious toxin that corroded the body upon contact. A Qi Refinement cultivator would instantly find it invaded their system, rapidly dissolving bones, internal organs, and all into a pool of blood.
Even a Foundation Establishment cultivator would suffer significant harm if the poison wasn’t promptly expelled.
Since acquiring his Second Level poison crafting skill, he had scoured for materials for ages before finally concocting this vial of low-grade poison.
He had intended it as a life-saving measure, but now, it seemed he had to put it to use.
Holding the vial, Zhou Luo’s gaze darkened considerably.
Actually, locating Bai Zhi Yan was an easy feat.
Past family conflict had made him fear the main family would target his kin, so he had secretly developed a specialized tracking poison in response.
This poison itself caused no harm or effect until combined with another specially crafted toxin.
He had applied it to his family precisely to protect them.
These days, as Bai Zhi Yan constantly played with the children, she must have inevitably become imbued with this alluring fragrance.
Right now, the kidnappers probably hadn’t left the family grounds; more likely, they were hiding somewhere nearby.
He pocketed the Bone Corruption Powder and fetched a pre-made potion from the nearby storage cabinet. Leaving the alchemy room, he walked towards the exit of Zhou Garden.
The two guards left behind immediately moved to intercept him. "Where are you headed?"
"That’s my Concubine. Of course I’m going to see her," Zhou Luo said gravely.
The two guards exchanged a look but stepped aside without further confrontation.
Exiting Zhou Garden, Zhou Luo followed the direction the guard team had gone.
When he reached the spot where Lin Qing Han had lost track, he surreptitiously retrieved the potion. Using his spiritual energy, he sprayed it into the air.
The colorless, scentless liquid reacted faintly as it dispersed into the atmosphere, releasing a lightly peculiar fragrance as tiny purplish lights glowed.
Clearly, the potion was reacting with the toxin residue on Bai Zhi Yan.
Guided now by this faint fragrance and the glowing lights, Zhou Luo moved stealthily in a specific direction.
