Chapter 35: Zhao Qi and Wu Tong
Chen Yang also watched the two children.
Out of fifty-six kids who participated in the test, it was surprising to see two with potential at first.
However, after some thought, he felt it wasn’t that exaggerated.
The area of the two towns was vast, and there were more than ten thousand people when counting the villages and scattered households.
It was simply due to the monster tide that some from their ranks had gathered at the Yang Family; given such a large base, having two talented children was not unusual.
It could only be regarded as good luck for the Yang Family that these two kids happened to arrive in their territory and survived that calamity.
“Hmm—it’s time to start cultivating.”
Chen Yang refocused his attention on the branch courtyard.
After discussing, the two children decided to start with the Zhou Tian Drawing Qi Technique.
The cultivation method of this technique was similar to yoga from Chen Yang’s past life, using special combinations of movements to draw on the spiritual energy of heaven and earth.
Twelve movements constituted one Zhou Tian, and twelve Zhou Tians formed a complete cycle. They could only draw in the energy after completing a full cycle.
Compared to the Book of Seeking the Spirit in Darkness, this method looked a bit clumsy, but it had a lower threshold. If they put in the effort, they could succeed in gathering Qi with just a little more time.
The two kids awkwardly mimicked the Zhou Tian movements; by the end of the day, their clothes were soaked with sweat after several rounds, and they had barely mastered the first few movements.
“Ha… ha… Wu Tong, let’s take a break. My arms and legs feel wobbly.”
Zhao Qi plopped down on the ground, catching his breath while wiping sweat.
This was far from what he had imagined about cultivating immortality. The Zhou Tian movements looked simple, but doing them continuously consumed a lot of physical strength.
He felt it was more tiring than working a whole day in the fields like Zhao Dapeng.
Wu Tong knelt on the ground, her face flushed, her hair damp, hanging in strands on either side of her cheeks.
She didn’t respond to Zhao Qi but took deep breaths to steady her heartbeat. Soon, she got back up and resumed practicing the Zhou Tian movements.
Seeing this, Zhao Qi opened his mouth, unsure of what to say.
After watching for a while, he felt embarrassed to continue resting and got up to follow Wu Tong and kept practicing.
They trained until nightfall, finally stopping when their limbs could hardly move anymore.
Later, Old Yu appeared, leading them back to their room to rest.
The next day, Chen Yang thought the children would sleep in after their tiring first day, but instead, as soon as it became light out, Wu Tong pulled a still-drowsy Zhao Qi outside to clean the courtyard.
After breakfast and a short rest, they dove back into their training.
Zhao Qi cried out in pain from start to finish, yet he didn’t miss a single movement.
Wu Tong, as quiet as on their first day, diligently ensured she executed each movement perfectly.
By the fifth day, their bodies had adapted to the Zhou Tian movements, and they no longer felt sore.
This greatly improved their efficiency.
That evening, they each completed a full set of Zhou Tian movements, marking a successful first step. Afterward, they repeated the movements until they could perform a complete cycle continuously.
This process was quite monotonous, as there were no shortcuts; all they could do was work hard step by step.
Zhao Qi felt tempted to slack off several times during this process, but seeing Wu Tong still persevering, he felt too embarrassed to stop.
“Hehe, these two little kids are quite interesting. Wu Tong, the little girl, is impressive; she has a strong character, persistence, and certainly a resilient will,” Chen Yang observed for a while and had a good understanding of the two kids’ personalities.
“Zhao Qi, on the other hand, keeps complaining and sometimes thinks about taking shortcuts, but he knows what’s important. When it’s time to put in the effort, he doesn’t cut corners.”
Overall, both children showed great promise.
Old Yu shared a similar view with Chen Yang; having seen countless people in his lifetime, he had already seen through the two children based on their performance in the past two days.
Time passed little by little, and a month flew by.
Today was the day Chen Yang would help Yang Lingqing heal her Qi meridians. Just as he gathered his thoughts, he focused on the branch courtyard.
After a month of training, Wu Tong and Zhao Qi finally completed a full cycle of the Zhou Tian movements.
Today, the two were set to officially start Drawing Qi into the body.
They adjusted their states and began to softly chant, their bodies moving along with the words.
As they performed the Zhou Tian movements, the spiritual energy around the courtyard started to fluctuate.
After the first round, Zhao Qi seemed to have gained some insight, while Wu Tong felt nothing.
In the second round, Zhao Qi could vaguely sense the flow of spiritual energy, but Wu Tong was still oblivious to it.
The third round, fourth round…
From the sunrise to the sunset, the two kids completed a full eight rounds of Zhou Tian.
“I did it! I did it!”
At the end of the eighth round, Zhao Qi cheered in delight.
He successfully drew the first wisp of spiritual energy into his body and felt its lightness flow through his Qi meridians.
“Wu Tong, I successfully drew Qi into my body!”
“That’s wonderful! Congratulations!”
Wu Tong genuinely felt happy for Zhao Qi, but thinking about her own lack of progress that day, her expression dimmed a little.
Zhao Qi noticed this and quickly offered some comforting words.
Hearing his innocent encouragement, Wu Tong sighed and shook her head.
Of course, she understood those principles.
But after a month of hard work, to end up with no results was truly disheartening.
“Alas… my talent really is quite poor. Not to mention compared to the three children of the Yang Family, even against Zhao Qi, I’m still lacking a lot.”
Watching the entire process, Chen Yang thought to himself.
Though Wu Tong had the ability to cultivate, her physical talent was exaggeratedly poor.
Chen Yang observed the spiritual energy being drawn in by her Zhou Tian movements, collecting around her, but after circling her body for a while, it couldn’t find any openings and ultimately dissipated.
Wu Tong’s twelve Qi meridian openings were very narrow, which meant she had to exert many times more effort than others to reach the same level as normal cultivators.
Time in cultivation always seemed to fly by. Before they knew it, another month had passed.
After Old Yu used spiritual power to nourish Chen Yang, he proceeded to the branch courtyard to check on the two children.
Zhao Qi had already broken through the first Qi meridian, and his Zhou Tian movements had become increasingly skilled; he could sense the flow of spiritual energy in both motion and stillness.
Observing quietly from the side, Old Yu nodded silently and then looked at Wu Tong, a sigh escaping his heart.
For a whole month, Wu Tong still hadn’t succeeded in Drawing Qi into her body, and every time she reached a crucial moment, she experienced lost effort.
Even though her Zhou Tian movements were more standard and smooth than Zhao Qi’s, she hadn’t made any progress at all.
Even the thoughtful Old Yu couldn’t help but sigh at this scene.
“Wu Tong, it’s getting late. Let’s rest for today,” Zhao Qi said, calming himself as he looked at Wu Tong with concern.
They had already completed ten cycles of Zhou Tian today, and their bodies were nearly at their limits.
“You go back first; I’ll try again,” Wu Tong said while adjusting her breathing.
Zhao Qi saw her hesitate to speak and could only agree as he returned to his room.
After he left, Wu Tong rested for a moment and then stood up again to begin her Zhou Tian movements.
Old Yu watched as she completed her eleventh cycle, once again collapsing to the ground without any progress.
She clenched her fists tightly, pressed her lips together, and sobbed silently, tears streaming down her cheeks and dropping to the ground.
In that moment, the shadows of her brothers leaving and her mother’s pained expression continuously flashed in her mind.
After a brief cry, this strong girl shook and stood up again.
She raised her hand, wanting to attempt the Zhou Tian movements once more.
“Alas…”
Old Yu shook his head sadly; he had been watching Wu Tong’s efforts all along.
Feeling unable to bear it any longer, he contemplated intervening to prevent her from hurting herself.
Just then, a thought came to him.
Old Yu paused for a moment and turned to look at the main courtyard. “Immortal Master!”
Chen Yang called out to Old Yu and then extended his consciousness, gently reaching out to Wu Tong.
As the surrounding spiritual energy was stirred by the Zhou Tian movements, Chen Yang began to guide it towards the Qi meridian in Wu Tong’s abdomen.
Then, just like compressing his own spiritual power, he twisted the spiritual energy of heaven and earth around Wu Tong and sent it into that Qi meridian.
The entrance of the Qi meridian began to expand naturally as the spiritual energy surged in, quickly reaching a normal size, allowing further spiritual energy to enter Wu Tong’s body without Chen Yang needing to guide it.
Old Yu watched this scene in astonishment, his eyes filled with disbelief.
He stared at Wu Tong for a long moment before coming back to his senses and hurriedly bowed deeply towards the main courtyard.
“Immortal Master, your powers are limitless. I thank you on behalf of Wu Tong!”
