Chapter 20: Chen Yang Shows His Might
On the battlefield, the fight had reached a boiling point.
All the family soldiers held the last line of defense, using their own bodies to block the beast’s attacks.
They roared as they charged forward, their bodies soaked in blood, consumed by the thrill of battle, fearless of death!
If they had a blade, they used it; if not, they jumped straight at the monsters to engage in hand-to-hand combat.
Despite the brutal situation, no one chose to flee.
Behind them were their beloved family members, and they would not retreat even a single step!
Lives of both humans and beasts continued to be lost, and before the last defensive line, a pile of corpses rose nearly to waist height.
This formed a barrier but also provided a platform for the beasts.
The family soldiers struggled to block the advancing monsters, but the sheer number of beasts was overwhelming, and a few small, agile creatures managed to leap over the wall of corpses and past their defenses.
Once the monsters crossed the line, they charged right into the large courtyard of the Yang Family.
Excited by the scent of humans inside, several beasts climbed over the walls and jumped in.
“Beasts, you seek death!”
“Fight! Hit them hard!”
They thought they were entering a buffet, but they quickly realized that everyone in the courtyard was armed with swords, sticks, and knives.
Though they hadn’t received professional training, the sheer number of people was overwhelming.
The few lucky monsters that got past the line were immediately surrounded and fiercely battered by more than a dozen people as soon as they landed.
Yang Feiyun and Yang Xiaolei directed the action inside the courtyard, protecting the elderly, weak, women, and children in the center while the young fought on the front line, wielding their weapons.
Having practiced martial arts in their youth, they found slaying a few monster cubs was simple.
At this moment, everyone inside and outside the Yang Family, regardless of their background or status, fought united against a common enemy, striving to secure their right to survive in this cruel world.
A massive crash sounded from the front lines, signaling the fall of the exhausted yak monster.
Yang Lingrui seized the moment, launching three powerful winds to deliver the final blows, finally slaying this powerful monster after nearly an hour of fierce struggle.
His clothes were soaked with sweat, and he breathed heavily.
Challenging and slaying the yak monster had taken a significant toll on him, and he was now in a semi-exhausted state.
Yet, in the chaos of battle, there was no time to rest; Yang Lingrui quickly returned to the line to support the severely wounded positions that were close to collapsing.
Finding it hard to gather powerful winds, he resorted to fighting with his fists and feet.
A cultivator’s physical strength was far superior to that of ordinary people; even without using techniques, his combat strength was fierce. He single-handedly blocked several breaches, continuously driving back waves of beast attacks, relieving a great deal of pressure from the family soldiers behind him.
Just as he prepared to move on to provide support elsewhere, he noticed that the previously vulnerable positions had been reinforced.
Several small teams of family soldiers were weaving back and forth behind the lines, filling any gaps as soon as they appeared, ensuring that no breaches were made by the monster tide.
Through everyone’s relentless efforts, by morning, the monster tide finally began to wane, as the beast horde slowly fell apart, and no new monsters appeared.
On the cliff, after the death of the monkey monster, four more beasts emerged.
Yang Lingqing and Yang Linghu worked together to slay two of them from the second level of Gathering Qi, while the remaining one of the third level and one of the fourth level fell to Chen Yang’s spiritual energy impact.
It appears that Yang Guanfeng’s decision to entrust Chen Yang to Yang Lingqing was incredibly wise.
If not for this move, both Linghu and Lingqing would certainly have died tonight; not only would they perish, but the Yang Family at the foot of the mountain would also face the merciless slaughter of the monsters. After the monster tide, the Yang Family would cease to exist.
As they heard the roars of beasts gradually subside, the heavy weight on their hearts finally lifted.
“Lingqing, we held our ground, right…?”
Yang Linghu collapsed completely to the ground, his body covered in wounds.
He was only at the first level of Gathering Qi, and every battle that night had pushed him beyond his limits.
If not for his extraordinary natural talent and his hard work refining the strength of the bull, he wouldn’t have made it to the end.
“Yeah! We held our ground! Great job, Tiger!”
Yang Lingqing leaned against a tree to support herself, barely able to stand.
Her hand held Chen Yang’s, trembling continuously, yet a faint smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.
“Elder, Lingqing did it!” she thought to herself.
After resting for a moment, the two helped each other get back on their feet.
There was no more sound of the monster tide on the cliff, and they planned to head down the mountain to assist.
Buzz!
A sudden tremor in her hand brought a look of shock to Yang Lingqing’s eyes.
More beasts!
The two quickly turned around to see a fire-red fox monster, watching them with a cunning gaze from a distance.
It had been lurking in the shadows, patiently waiting after witnessing the strange stone’s power in Yang Lingqing’s hand.
After the four previous beasts fell, and seeing the two of them exhausted, it decided it was time to make its appearance.
Yang Lingqing’s face turned rigid as despair flooded her heart for the first time in her life.
This was not only because they could not fight back but also because she sensed the fox monster’s level from Chen Yang’s feedback.
Sixth level of Gathering Qi!
Such a vast disparity in power left Yang Lingqing feeling powerless.
Yet, the determination in her heart urged her to endure her fear and raise the mysterious stone.
Using the last of her spiritual power, Yang Lingqing unleashed a spiritual impact.
However, the attack’s power was only equivalent to the fourth level of Gathering Qi, posing no threat to the fox monster, which easily blocked it with a raised paw.
Seeing that the strange stone only had such little power, the fox monster completely let down its guard and confidently approached the two.
Faced with an unbeatable foe, Yang Linghu and Yang Lingqing exchanged glances, each seeing determination in the other’s eyes and finding their answer in their hearts.
At this point, they would use their lives to protect their family one last time!
As they took a desperate stance, the fox monster revealed a look of amusement in its eyes.
Knowing the two had no chance to fight back, the cunning fox decided to toy with them.
With its sixth level of Gathering Qi, it could have easily killed them the moment it appeared, but instead, it chose to approach leisurely.
This foolish thought would ultimately cost the fox monster its life.
As it lowered its large head to get closer, a flash of blinding light suddenly filled the scene.
In the next moment, the fox monster’s body was shot right through from head to tail by the spiritual impact.
Dazed and confused, the monster met its end here.
Equally stunned were Linghu and Lingqing, staring at the fox monster’s corpse, unable to believe what had just happened.
“Lingqing, did… did you do this?” Yang Linghu asked, dazed.
Yang Lingqing shook her head in a daze and then gazed at the mysterious stone in her hand.
She had initially thought the treasure merely served to sense enemies and provide early warnings, but now it seemed she had underestimated its power.
For it was that last spiritual impact that had come from the mysterious stone itself!
