Chapter 37: Allies Betray
“Fighting God is dead too!”
Su Wen stopped, turned to face the spot where Fighting God had been, and sighed softly.
With so few fate bearers with the character "God" in China, his own death and now Fighting God’s death made the fall of the Imperial Capital seem almost inevitable.
Of course, he hadn’t yet figured out how he would die in the future; he couldn’t be sure if he’d still be alive in ten years.
But judging by the way things were going, it seemed likely that he had died.
Otherwise, the tone in the Resistor’s Diary when it mentioned the Creator of martial arts wouldn’t have been so somber.
“Is there a problem?”
Fighting God stepped forward, instantly appearing in front of Su Wen.
The God of Wealth had been demonstrating his movement technique but suddenly stopped and gave him a… strange look.
Honestly, the God of Wealth’s gaze made him feel uneasy.
It was unsettling, as if it hinted that his time might be running out.
“Nothing serious, just feeling a bit reflective all of a sudden.”
Su Wen shook his head and said, “Just thinking about how quickly time passes and how unpredictable life can be.”
Fighting God’s eyelids twitched at this. After a moment of silence, he asked, “Hey, man! I’m not trying to pry into your innate abilities, but I’ve got to ask—you don’t have some kind of future-predicting power, do you?”
“Me? A God of Wealth? How would I have the ability to predict the future?”
“Whew… That’s what I thought. It’s not like everyone can see the future, right?”
Fighting God let out a relieved sigh and said, “But your tone just now really freaked me out. The God of Theater used to talk to me like that.”
“And then, a week later, when I was exploring the Arrow Realm, I almost didn’t make it back.”
“Damn, those Arrow Realm races are seriously messed up!”
At this point, Fighting God paused, then added, “Do you know anything about the theory of Cruel Drama?”
“…”
Su Wen was caught off guard and shook his head.
He wasn’t an expert in that field and didn’t know much about such theoretical stuff.
“I don’t understand it deeply either, so I can’t explain it well.”
“But basically, it’s about using exaggerated, shocking methods in a performance to create something horrifying, even making the audience deeply uncomfortable, but also strangely compelling.”
“It’s a theory I heard from others; for us non-professionals, it’s just something interesting or a bit of a joke.”
“But if the old God of Theater brings it up while talking to you, you’d better watch out.”
“Last time, I was discussing national affairs with the old God of Theater, and out of nowhere, he hit me with a dose of Cruel Drama.”
“I was completely stunned at the time.”
“And after I looked into it, I was just… horrified.”
“Just thinking about that kind of scene makes me… ugh!”
Fighting God turned around and immediately started to vomit.
Beside him, Su Wen, being perceptive, patted Fighting God on the back.
The Star God had previously mentioned to him that the words of the God of Theater, especially those concerning drama theory, should be taken seriously.
However, he wasn’t entirely clear on how to take them seriously or what the theories mentioned by the God of Theater actually implied.
But now, with Fighting God right there, demonstrating and even getting so emotional that he felt sick, it seemed… the theory of Cruel Drama discussed by the God of Theater was indeed powerful.
In the future, if the God of Theater ever brought this up with him, he would need to be careful.
“Though it’s really disgusting, I actually took some photos with my phone when I went in,” Fighting God said. “Do you want to see them?”
Su Wen didn’t hesitate and replied, “No!”
“…”
Fighting God looked a bit disappointed, then asked again, “Actually, if you think about it, it’s quite interesting. Aren’t you even a little curious?”
He had endured his discomfort to take those photos and capture the buildings that pushed human limits, all so he could show everyone later.
Well… he couldn’t be the only one feeling nauseous, right?
When everyone felt nauseous together, it wouldn’t be so bad for him.
Most importantly, from another perspective, he wasn’t doing anything wrong; showing everyone could broaden their horizons and strengthen their minds.
In case they encountered something like that in the future, they wouldn’t be too shocked, right?
“Not curious.”
Su Wen said firmly. Fighting God was so powerful and clearly not a novice fate bearer.
So the killings and possibly even mass slaughters he had experienced were likely more than Su Wen could imagine.
A fate bearer of such a level had a heart that was already hardened to an unimaginable degree.
Even so, just thinking about it still caused this kind of discomfort.
So why would he want to look at it?
Did he think he was sleeping too well at night?
Or did he want to try the feeling of having his worldview shattered?
The most rational thing to do was to not look.
“Alright then!”
Fighting God sighed and said, “But if you ever want to see them, or if you’re looking for some excitement, you can come find me.”
“Or send me a message, and I’ll just send you those photos and videos.”
“I tell you, they’ll definitely bring back the delicious flavors of the meals you had a few days ago… enough to make your stomach rumble again and want to feast.”
Su Wen: “…”
I believe that when pigs fly!
With how Fighting God seemed, seeing those would definitely make him unable to eat for days!
At the same time, in the future timeline, the subtitles began to flicker again.
[You walk toward the Tomb of the Fighting God, looking at the somewhat dilapidated grave and can’t help but let out a sigh.]
[The God of Wealth from the past timeline! Just a moment ago, the Fighting God, who was happily chatting with you, has now turned to a pile of bones, buried right before your eyes.]
[You see some words engraved at the bottom of the tombstone, wiping off the dust that covered it, the words begin to appear before you.]
[Martyr: Fighting God.]
[Cause of Death: Died on June 10, 2025, during the Eastern Sea Defense War.]
[Merit: Recipient of the national second-class medal, Blue Sky Medal, Guardian Medal, first-class Exploration Medal…]
[Evaluation: As a pillar of combat power among the fate bearers with the character "God," the fall of Fighting God is a significant loss for the nation and even the world.]
[Yet, the unexpected can happen; no one could foresee the Allied Velier and Huahuaz clans betraying at a crucial moment, causing the Eastern Sea Defense Line to collapse, leaving Fighting God severely injured and near death.]
[A team from the Mount Sea Battlefield was sent for rescue, but Fighting God’s injuries were too severe to heal. In the end, Fighting God burned himself during the Eastern Sea defense, buying three precious days for the retreat of the Eastern Sea soldiers.]
[Many fate bearers believe that if Fighting God hadn’t died, humanity’s future would surely be bright!]
[……]
Su Wen stared at the information recorded on the tombstone of Fighting God, falling into silence.
Meanwhile, the chattering Fighting God noticed something was off with Su Wen and slowly stopped talking.
“Brother God of Fighting, can I ask you something?”
“Go ahead.”
“If a large-scale war happens in the future, would you trust allied foreign races on the battlefield?”
“……”
Fighting God looked at Su Wen, feeling a twitch at the corner of his mouth.
He was all too familiar with such strongly suggestive statements.
