Chapter 226: I Will Never Allow Anyone to Be More Arrogant Than Me
Rin and Waste Hero found a spacious and bright restaurant, and went straight to a private room where they ordered their food with the help of a waiter.
“Two portions of pork chop rice, a large vegetable salad, and three grilled chicken legs, with two bottles of sparkling water.”
After ordering, Rin closed the menu and took the opportunity to ask, “By the way, do you know about Xingzhi Islands?”
The waitress, a friendly and young-looking girl, seemed a bit puzzled upon hearing the name, pausing for a moment while taking notes with her pen.
After some thought, she replied, “I’ve heard of Xingzhi Islands, it seems to be in a very remote place in the kingdom.”
“Do you know how to get there from Coral City?”
“I’m not sure about that. I’ve only heard a traveling merchant mention it before. I’m just a waitress, but you can find a detailed map of the kingdom at a general store.”
“Thank you very much.”
After the waiter left, Rin nudged Waste Hero.
“Hey, silly cat, you are a local after all, how come you don’t even know the way back home?”
Emilia’s head was nudged back and forth by him, like a seesaw, still maintaining a blank expression on her face.
“Sure, take the boat, tell me where to go, I’ll go, then back to the village, actually not interested.”
Strings of words put together, probably ordinary people wouldn’t quite understand the meaning behind her words.
Due to spending a lot of time together, Rin could quickly understand.
Essentially, after becoming a hero, one will be sent to see the emperor in the empire, or sent for training. Upon returning to the hometown, the task is to help villagers solve problems.
Various routes on this journey were arranged by others, Waste Hero actually had no interest in such itinerary, and with her personality, things she’s not interested in would not even cross her mind.
Hence, she had no recollection of a map, maybe even the places she had been to, she had no clue about.
“Aren’t you interested in adventures? I saw you were very happy during the practical class before, quite positive.”
Waste Hero turned to look at Rin, and then said, “Well, it’s because of, a tundere.”
“…”
Despite being very close, this silly cat always manages to tease Rin from different angles, leaving him feeling flustered.
“Don’t… don’t talk nonsense, there’s still a silly elk in the team… tsk.”
Rin turned his head away, glanced out of the window at the bustling crowds, scratched his face, and soon regained his confidence.
“So you better listen to me in the future, or else I won’t bring you along, and you’ll just have to go back to your own village as a village girl.”
“Meow~”
Emilia obediently nodded, then kept her gaze on Rin’s face, not looking away for a while.
However, her eyes always seemed empty, as if she was looking through you instead of at you. Rin felt okay though, the discomfort wasn’t too obvious yet.
Before long, the waiter brought over the sparkling water.
The sparkling water here is made from a local fruit called bubble fruit, it has a slight sour taste but very refreshing.
Rin had a glass and it suited his taste. He thought about buying a few boxes to slowly drink later when he goes to the grocery store to buy a map.
As for the dishes that came, they were just average.
After all, this place is actually better at seafood, like the eel rice written on the sign at the entrance.
When entering the restaurant, he saw many customers ordering this dish. It must taste good, but Waste Hero doesn’t like eating anything that looks like fish.
Rin thought about getting a few servings of eel rice to go, to eat alone when Waste Hero is asleep or away.
After finishing everything on his plate, Rin put down his knife and fork and wiped his mouth.
“Foodie, had enough?”
“The taste is okay, for now, it’s enough.”
Rin immediately rolled his eyes and disdainfully said, “You’ve eaten all three chicken legs, and it’s just ‘enough for now’? Without me, you’d have to go to the guild every day to earn money from missions to feed yourself.”
Then, Rin chuckled as he stroked his chin, “But hey, at least you’re better off than that poor Sword Saint, she can’t even sustain herself by doing missions.”
Waste Hero tilted their head and went back to focusing on the pork chop.
Anyway, life was good as it was, no need for any changes.
After the meal, Rin helped Waste Hero put on the hood of their cape and went to the front desk to pay.
Coincidentally, the cashier was the same server as before.
“That will be XX copper coins in total.”
Rin handed a silver coin to the other person, “The rest is a tip, no need for change.”
“Thank you very much, lovely guest.”
The waiter immediately smiled happily and accepted the silver coin.
As Rin was about to leave, he suddenly heard a commotion outside.
Looking through the window, he saw pedestrians on the street fleeing in all directions, as if they had seen a ghost.
Strangely, it seemed like only men were running away, while women remained calm, with only a few looking anxious and picking up their pace.
At that moment, a man rushed in, panting heavily, shouting, “The Grand Marshal is back! Quickly, run for your lives!”
After a moment of silence, the men in the restaurant jumped up like springs and hurried to pay their bills.
Some only had time to shout, “Keep the tab open!” before sprinting away, while others sought refuge in the restroom or private booths.
Rin puzzledly touched his head, “What’s going on? And who is this Grand Marshal?”
The waiter could tell he was not from around here, so he quickly said, “Sir, you better run… or better yet, hide behind the counter.”
“Could it be that this Grand Marshal is really arrogant and overbearing?”
“It’s even worse than that. But we can’t say this out loud. Sir, please hurry and hide inside.”
Rin thought, “Wow, there’s actually someone more arrogant than the local troublemaker?”
Just a small country’s general, don’t mess with me, or I’ll find someone to pluck every hair off his body one by one.
Hide? Why should I hide? No matter what evil forces, they are amateurs in front of me, the villain.
“I might not be afraid of him.” Rin bravely said, “So, who is this Grand Marshal?”
At this moment, the other waiters were also going around the tables helping with the bills, but the cash register was still crowded.
The waiter worked calmly with a formal smile on his face as he explained, “Coral City and its surroundings belong to the Poke Viscount. The Grand Marshal is actually the daughter of the Poke Viscount.”
The male customer, who was anxiously waiting to pay, hesitated and said, “She calls herself the mighty and invincible General, but actually she’s just a… um?”
After thinking for a while, he finally came up with an adjective, “Have you ever seen a sea crocodile dragon?”
Rin imagined a huge, fat, and fierce crocodile dragon, similar to a whale, with its mouth twitching.
“She’s now looking for a suitable male of the right age, and as long as she finds one pleasing to her eyes, she will snatch him away…”
“…”
