Chapter 199: Plan Approved, Probably
At this moment, Rin was sitting up straight, and sitting across from him was the captain of the ship, Philip.
In the entire captain’s lounge, there were three people in total. Apart from Rin and the captain, there was only a bat looking dispirited with two dark circles under its eyes.
Well, a certain incompetent hero, after brushing her teeth, just lazily lay on the bed without wanting to move at all. There was no way, they could only call her later.
Another bat, having hung upside down outside the ship all night, was already in such a tragic state. It couldn’t rest and was pulled out by Rin to act as a bodyguard. You can imagine its mood.
Not sleeping directly on the sofa was already considered giving face.
Captain Philip seemed a bit surprised by Rin’s invitation for a private conversation.
At least he was over fifty years old, not showing any emotions on the surface.
"I wonder if Master Fenix has any orders for this old man?"
He used to work in the Royal Navy, but in a system where nobles are prioritized, it’s very challenging for commoners to advance based on their abilities, luck, and social skills.
Unfortunately, this man had a bad temper when he was younger, and he offended many people. After immigrating to Gualarrap Kingdom, as a non-native, he was eventually given the title of an honorary baron in his old age.
An honorary baron doesn’t have land or hereditary rights, it’s just a title given as a reward.
Luckily, the shipping guild valued his over thirty years of experience, so they made him the captain of this huge cruise ship, with a high salary and good treatment.
He quickly figured out Rin’s identity, which surprised Rin a bit.
When they encountered a local administrative officer before, he mentioned that to avoid revealing their identities, he purposely focused on other matters. Rin originally thought that even as a captain, he wouldn’t know about his and Emilia’s identities.
"Master Fenix, don’t be surprised. I oversee all affairs on the Annabel ship, and the esteemed administrative officer has been briefed accordingly."
Captain Philip nodded slightly, stroked his gray beard, and continued, "Of course, I followed orders and didn’t disturb anyone. For you and Miss Hero, I did a lot of work with the executive officer in private."
Rin was quite curious, "Like what?"
"For example, we screened all the passengers on the ship. Luckily, most of the guards were on alert, and most of the passengers boarding were from out of town. Most nobles were asked to stay at their estates or positions temporarily. The rest were some nobles returning home, who didn’t know you two."
"I see, well done."
Rin nodded; although he had a big reputation, few people had actually met him, even at upper-class events.
This time, Queen Majesty asked them to travel quietly, partly for safety reasons and partly to focus on spiritual practice.
They didn’t have to hide their identities completely, as they could easily disguise themselves with fake identities, making things simpler.
Rin could guess the royal family’s intentions in this situation.
Probably, they wanted them to be cared for in emergencies and use their status to handle situations discreetly, without causing a commotion.
Rin picked up the tea cup and looked at the bright and clear red tea. His tense frown relaxed, and after taking a sip, he said, "Here’s the thing, I’ve lost a very important item."
Of course, losing something was a lie – it was just an excuse he came up with for his plan.
Philip, who had been lounging on the sofa, sat up slightly and his expression became much more serious.
Even though he didn’t like those arrogant and misbehaving noble young masters who abused their status, he couldn’t neglect his duties.
Besides, if Hero and Fenix were acting on the king’s orders, he had to be careful and cautious.
"May I ask for more details?"
"Before visiting the floating jellyfish, I was sure I still had it on me, but after the visit, I realized it was gone!"
As Rin spoke, he noticed Philip’s curious gaze at his space ring, and he immediately showed a proud and displeased expression.
"That was a special space magic device given to me by my fiancée… Princess Elise. It can’t be put into storage."
Philip nodded and stroked his beard, then asked, "So, did Master Fenix discover the missing item when he returned indoors last night?"
"Yes, and I am one hundred percent sure it was stolen. I wanted you to investigate last night, but hero said it was too late and we had to wait until morning."
"I see." Philip looked serious, "In that case, I’ll immediately order the sailors to help you retrieve the item."
"How do you plan to find it?"
"Naturally, we will start by investigating…"
"Absurd!"
Rin slammed the cup on the table, unable to hide his true nature any longer, and sneered, "At this rate, we might not find it even when we reach the port. I can’t waste time at the police station."
Philip’s expression turned somewhat grim as he asked, "So what is Master Fenix’s plan? With over two thousand people on this ship, searching them all directly…"
"Don’t worry, the item has a special mark on it, so there’s no need for a body search. Just getting close to it, my companion here can detect it."
My plan is simple. You ask everyone the usual questions, I will check everyone, search the room, and it will be clear. Remember, everyone includes the crew."
Philip hesitated, "Even the crew? Many crew members were working last night and did not go sightseeing."
"What if it was a group theft to move the stolen goods?"
Rin waved his hand, "There’s no need to search them directly, we’ve done our best for them. As for the passengers, even if they are unhappy, what can they do? I must find the items back quickly, now, immediately."
The bad guy’s tone was unpleasant, with a commanding voice that brooked no argument. But unfortunately, Captain Philip couldn’t react poorly, and could only comply.
What if it’s something really important, and if something goes wrong, losing his job is a small matter. At this age, going to jail for negligence is unacceptable.
He took a deep breath, and nodded firmly, "Alright, let’s start with the crew."
"Okay, you go arrange that. I’ll go call Hero. Remember, from the management level down to the crew, don’t miss anyone."
"Yes."
When the captain agreed, Rin rudely pulled the bat off the sofa and left.
Rin didn’t tell Philip directly about the demon race disciples on the ship because he didn’t trust or know him well.
Even though everything seemed fine for now, if word got out, it could ruin everything.
Dealing with the situation in a roundabout way was troublesome, if it was on land, they could have just taken down the net directly.
