During the day, whenever visitors came by, Qiao Qiao would act affectionate enough. But once they were alone, her demeanor turned distinctly cold, even distant. A few times, Chi Yin had even woken up late at night to find Qiao Ziman standing quietly at her bedside, eyes gleaming faintly in the dark, as if plotting to devour her whole.
And worse, Qiao Qiao was constantly chatting on her phone with someone, even smiling—actually smiling!
In truth, Chi Yin knew exactly why Qiao Qiao was angry. After all, she’d promised to face everything together, yet she’d broken that promise, recklessly putting herself in danger instead. It was natural for Qiao Qiao to be upset.
Still, couldn’t they just talk it out?
Just as Chi Yin was pondering this, Qiao Ziman approached her bedside carrying a basin of water.
Chi Yin hurriedly typed out a message on her phone:
[Qiao Qiao, I want to talk things through with you properly.]
Qiao Ziman scoffed coldly. “What’s there to talk about, Little Mute? I thought you lost your voice.”
Chi Yin’s fingers flew across her phone’s keyboard:
[You’ve been acting cold lately. Did you get another dog?]
She paused, reconsidering. Maybe that’s too harsh toward Qiao Qiao. She quickly deleted it, hesitating before typing again.
Qiao Ziman stared at the unfinished message, feeling her irritation spike. Finally unable to hold back, she flung the towel into the basin with a loud splash. She actually dares to accuse me of being cold? Does she have no idea what she did wrong?!
Chi Yin hurriedly typed another message:
[Don’t be mad, it’s my fault. 😢]
Qiao Ziman sighed deeply, irritated but softening slightly at the emoji. She picked up the towel and resumed carefully wiping Chi Yin’s body. Yet she couldn’t let it go completely.
“I talked with the police earlier. Elvis will face charges and won’t get off easy. Did you know she had previous offenses? Apparently, she even ran someone over once.”
Seeing Chi Yin remain calm, Qiao Ziman’s irritation flared again. Angrily, she reached out and roughly tugged Chi Yin’s pants down.
“Chi Yin!” she snapped. “You’d better think carefully about how many secrets you’ve kept from me!”
Panicking, Chi Yin grabbed her pants with one hand, rapidly texting with the other:
[What are you doing? We’re in a hospital!]
Qiao Ziman narrowed her eyes. “What am I doing? Isn’t it obvious? Cleaning you up!”
Chi Yin hastily typed a reply:
[I can’t speak, but I can still take care of myself! You don’t need to—]
This is way too embarrassing!
“If you don’t want it, fine!” Huffing, Qiao Ziman spun around and stormed off.
In a panic, Chi Yin immediately tapped the bedside call bell and frantically typed:
[That’s not what I meant! Come back!]
Qiao Ziman stopped, looking back at Chi Yin’s pleading face. With a satisfied smirk, she slowly walked back and placed a gentle hand on Chi Yin’s thigh. “Oh? Then stay still.”
After meticulously cleaning her again for a few more minutes, Qiao Ziman mischievously remarked, “Hmm, why does it seem like it’s only getting wetter here? Maybe I should wipe harder?”
Chi Yin bit down on her lip, her face flushing red like a ripe tomato. Her fingers trembled slightly as she desperately tried to suppress her embarrassment.
After another five torturous minutes, Qiao Ziman finally stood up to refill the basin with fresh water.
Just then, Jiang Shu burst into the room, looking around frantically. She spotted Chi Yin on the bed and froze briefly, eyes widening in surprise. “Oh—you’re here too, sis? Wait, that’s not important. Where’s sister-in-law?”
Chi Yin stared at her blankly. What does she mean, ‘you’re here too?’
Jiang Shu glanced around the room, and upon confirming that Qiao Ziman wasn’t there, she immediately started chattering nonstop.
“Listen, sis! Sister-in-law was totally awesome! She…” (Here, she launched into an exaggerated five-hundred-word description of heroism and bravery.) “…carried you and Mom right out of the fire! She was literally glowing—sparkling all over, you know, like, bling bling! And you should’ve seen the way she fought that green-eyed monster—she went like this—”
Jiang Shu imitated Qiao Ziman’s fierce karate chop, swinging her arm down dramatically. “It was epic! That green-eyed woman cried out like a baby. Honestly, compared to sister-in-law, you looked super weak. Tsk tsk.”
Chi Yin: “…”
This was the tenth time Jiang Shu had recounted this story. The tenth.
Just then, Qiao Ziman came out from the bathroom. “Oh, Jiang Shu, you’re here?”
Jiang Shu instantly straightened up, eyes sparkling as she shouted enthusiastically, “Hello, sister-in-law!”
Qiao Ziman nodded with a smile. “Good girl.” She then instructed her carefully, “I’m heading out in a bit. Stay here and watch your sister until she finishes her IV.”
Jiang Shu snapped to attention. “Mission received!”
Chi Yin panicked. Going out again? She hurriedly pressed the call bell and rapidly typed a message:
[Where are you going? What are you going to do?]
Qiao Ziman glanced at the message, raising an eyebrow dismissively. “What, do I need your permission now?”
Jiang Shu chimed in eagerly from the side, repeating, “Yeah, sis, why so nosy?”
Chi Yin: “…”
Without another word, Qiao Ziman turned her back, walked over to the small table, pulled out her notebook, and flipped open a crisp, new page. Taking her pen, she began meticulously jotting down notes.
Title: [Little Mute’s List of Crimes]
- Hid the truth from me about being “Little Mute.”
- Lied about “facing everything together,” deliberately put herself in danger, and almost gave me a heart attack.
Qiao Ziman tapped her chin thoughtfully with her pen, then furiously scribbled down another point.
3. Concealed how dangerous Elvis really was. Unforgivable!
She paused again, tapping the pen thoughtfully against her chin before adding with even greater emphasis:
4. Not only failed to recognize her mistakes, but even suspected that I had another “dog.” Absolutely unforgivable!
Don’t think deleting that message means I didn’t see it!
As she glared at the list with deep resentment, her phone buzzed. A new message appeared on the screen from Friendly Netizen “Duan Di.”
[Coach says you’re improving quickly, especially in endurance and explosive strength! See, I told you fitness training would help! Anyway, I booked another personal training session for you—it’s an hour from now, so hurry up. Also, don’t forget to review the theory materials from the group chat!]
Qiao Ziman smiled happily while reading the message. The sweetness of that smile immediately triggered Chi Yin’s alarm bells.
Grabbing her bag, Qiao Ziman dashed toward the door.
Anxiously, Chi Yin waved Jiang Shu over.
Jiang Shu approached casually. “What’s up, sis?”
Chi Yin quickly typed:
[Where is your sister-in-law going? Is she meeting someone else?]
Jiang Shu proudly lifted her chin. “Sorry, sis—I’ve switched sides. Sister-in-law is my idol now.”
“I’ll never betray her!”
Chi Yin: “…”
