This was the first time Yu Shuyan had ever seen Chi Yin lose control like this.
Angry, restless, completely unhinged.
And was that… a hint of murderous intent in her voice?
After hanging up the phone, Chi Yin immediately downed a drink, her expression dark and unreadable.
Yu Shuyan watched her closely. Only when some color returned to her face did she finally ask, albeit hesitantly, “What happened?”
Chi Yin picked up the bottle of red wine, poured herself another glass, and downed it in one gulp. After taking a moment to steady herself, she finally spoke. “She followed me here.”
“Who?” The question had barely left Yu Shuyan’s mouth before a name flashed in her mind.
She remembered a summer break a few years ago when she had traveled abroad and coincidentally ended up in the same country as Chi Yin. She had gone to visit her for a brief get-together.
And that’s when she had met her.
A relentless pursuer, as possessive as a venomous snake, refusing to let go of Chi Yin no matter what.
Yu Shuyan would never forget the way that woman had looked at her from a distance—dark, cold, and carrying an unpredictable sense of danger. It had been terrifying.
Without thinking, Yu Shuyan cursed under her breath. “What the hell? Is she insane?”
“How is she still clinging to you like some damn leech? Doesn’t she have anything better to do?” Rolling up her sleeves, Yu Shuyan stood up with a determined expression. “Let’s go. I’ll deal with her for you.”
Chi Yin cast her a glance and said flatly, “You wouldn’t be able to beat her.”
Yu Shuyan: “… Boss Chi, I was trying to comfort you. Do you have to be this heartless?” Seeing that Chi Yin’s mood had lifted slightly, Yu Shuyan seized the moment to joke.
“But it’s not like you’re alone, right? Two against one—we can’t take her down?”
“Not necessarily.” Chi Yin finished off the rest of the wine, stood up, and started walking toward the door. Her voice had softened. “Don’t worry about it. Thanks, Peacock.”
“…Peacock?”
Yu Shuyan froze in place. A few seconds later, she snapped back to reality and shouted at Chi Yin’s retreating figure, “Boss Chi! Since when did you start picking up bad habits from that damn Ji?! This is outrageous!”
Chi Yin passed by the front desk, gave the server instructions for a discount, and then stepped outside to hail a cab. She got in and went straight to TOC’s entrance.
Meanwhile, Qiao Ziman had just finished work right on time. Exiting the TOC building, she headed toward the subway station.
A car horn honked from the right. Qiao Ziman turned toward the sound—only to see the person who had occupied her thoughts all day, sitting in the backseat of a taxi, gazing at her from a distance.
Her heart leaped.
Without hesitation, she pushed through the crowd and rushed forward, cupping Chi Yin’s face in her hands. Her warm, tender eyes traced every contour of Chi Yin’s features. “Why are you sweating so much?” she murmured.
And the next second—without a care in the world—she kissed her.
Soft lips met, their longing pouring into the kiss. They might have lost themselves in it had the driver not coughed lightly, reminding them of his presence. Only then did Qiao Ziman reluctantly pull away.
Chi Yin’s breathing was slightly unsteady as she looked up at her. “Get in the car first.”
“Okay.” Qiao Ziman opened the door and slid in beside her, pressing close.
The taxi pulled away from the company.
Meanwhile, from the office window, Elvis stood motionless, watching the entire scene unfold. Her expression darkened, eyes fixed coldly on the taxi disappearing into the distance. Suddenly, she clenched her fist—so tightly that the cigarette between her fingers snapped into several pieces, the fragments drifting to the floor.
Inside the taxi, Qiao Ziman studied Chi Yin’s tense jawline, sensing that something was weighing on her. She reached into her bag, pulled out a tissue, and gently wiped the sweat from Chi Yin’s palm and forehead. Then, she carefully tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
“Yin Yin, did you drink?” she asked.
Chi Yin took a moment to process her words. “Hmm?”
Qiao Ziman pinched her cheek lightly. “You’re distracted. What happened at dinner to make you like this?”
Her voice turned teasing. “Did that peacock bully you? Tell your big sister Qiao, and I’ll make sure to get even for you.”
Chi Yin finally cracked a smile. “Do you really think she’d dare?”
If it wasn’t Yu Shuyan, then who else could it be?
Could it be because of Elvis?
Qiao Ziman’s mind was a tangled mess of unanswered questions, the urge to seek clarity growing stronger. But just as she turned her head and caught sight of Chi Yin’s tightly furrowed brows, she swallowed down all the words she wanted to say.
—
After dinner, both of them, preoccupied with their own thoughts, retreated to the bedroom early.
After finishing their nightly routines, they lay in bed. They turned at the same time, locking eyes, and simultaneously spoke.
Qiao Ziman: “I have something to ask you.”
Chi Yin: “I have something to tell you.”
“You first.”
“You first.”
The perfect synchronicity made them both chuckle, the tension between them easing in an instant. Qiao Ziman rolled into Chi Yin’s arms, grabbed her chin, and squinted playfully. “Alright, spill it. What are you hiding from me this time? Be honest!”
Chi Yin lowered her head slightly and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
Qiao Ziman narrowed her eyes at her. “Don’t try that trick on me! I’m interrogating you here.”
Chi Yin deliberately put on a serious face. “Like this? Is this stern enough?”
Qiao Ziman burst into laughter and reached out to pinch Chi Yin’s waist. “You’re so annoying.”
They playfully wrestled for a moment before Chi Yin finally asked, more seriously this time, “Qiao Qiao, did you meet Elvis?”
“I did,” Qiao Ziman admitted. “She took over your position.”
Again, Chi Qilan!
Chi Yin’s hand clenched into a tight fist at her side, rage surging through her once more.
Until a soft, warm hand slipped into hers. Her emotions gradually settled, the tension in her gaze softening as well. She took a breath before saying, “Qiao Qiao, can you stay away from her from now on?”
Qiao Ziman: “Shouldn’t I be the one saying that to you?”
Seriously, this was beyond strange. Elvis was obviously here for Chi Yin. There was no way she had misread the situation.
“Does she like you? Is she here to take you away?”
Chi Yin paused for a moment before responding, “Yes and no.”
Qiao Ziman: “What do you mean?”
“She is here to take me away. But I don’t think she actually likes me. She just considers me something that belongs to her—a possession.”
Qiao Ziman: “What kind of psycho is she?”
“She is sick in the head,” Chi Yin admitted, pressing a hand to her shoulder, silently telling her to hold back her frustration.
Then, she began to recount how she and Elvis had met.
