Qiao Ziman froze for a moment before offering an awkward smile and replying perfunctorily, “Hello.”
Professor Fang glanced between the two of them, a smile tugging at her lips. “Even now, you two look like a perfect match.”
The comment made Qiao Ziman uncomfortable. Is Professor Fang trying to play matchmaker? Her suspicions deepened when Professor Fang stood up and moved to chat with people at the next table. What’s there to talk about? she thought irritably. There’s a little troublemaker waiting for me at home.
Deciding she had enough, Qiao Ziman grabbed the delivery box she had brought and told Professor Fang she had something to take care of. After agreeing to meet privately another time, she made her way out of the restaurant. However, just as she stepped outside, Wu Jianqiang hurried after her.
“Qiao Ziman, wait a moment,” he called out.
She turned, keeping her tone polite but distant. “Hm? Do you need something, classmate?” Remembering her self-imposed “dating guide,” particularly the rule about maintaining boundaries with strangers, she made sure to keep a two-meter distance between them.
Wu Jianqiang seemed taken aback by her formality but quickly pulled out his phone. “Could I… maybe add you on—”
“Sorry, no,” Qiao Ziman interrupted, her tone firm. I’m committed to the sisterhood now, and I need to uphold my sisterly virtues.
Caught off guard, Wu Jianqiang awkwardly slipped his phone back into his pocket. “So, are you currently—” He hesitated, clearly trying to phrase his next question carefully, but Qiao Ziman’s expression already made it clear she wasn’t interested.
Qiao Ziman interrupted him again, not giving him a chance to finish. “You’re trying to ask if I have a boyfriend, aren’t you?”
Wu Jianqiang hesitated before nodding.
She smiled, a mischievous glint in her eye. “Well, what about you? Don’t you have a girlfriend?”
His face lit up. “No, I don’t.”
Qiao Ziman’s smile widened. “Well, I do.”
Wu Jianqiang blinked, utterly confused. “???”
Without giving him a chance to respond, she turned on her heel. At that moment, a familiar Maybach unexpectedly came into view across the street. Behind the wheel was none other than Chi Yin, her cold, beautiful eyes locked firmly on Qiao Ziman.
A sudden wave of panic washed over her, but she forced herself to stay calm. With feigned nonchalance, she tilted her chin toward Wu Jianqiang and said, “My girlfriend’s here to pick me up. Isn’t she gorgeous?”
Before he could react, Qiao Ziman clutched her delivery box and bolted for the car, hopping in and slamming the door behind her.
Inside, she immediately started explaining. “That was just a college classmate. We’re not close.”
Chi Yin’s expression remained unreadable as she responded with a simple, “Hmm.” After a pause, her tone grew colder. “What’s his name?”
“Wu Jianqiang,” Qiao Ziman answered instinctively.
Chi Yin raised an eyebrow. “Not close, but you know his name?”
Qiao Ziman froze. Oh no, Chi Yin misunderstood!
As if to underscore her displeasure, Chi Yin’s eyes flicked to the delivery box that Qiao Ziman was clutching tightly. Her voice dropped another degree. “Seatbelt.”
Qiao Ziman quickly fastened her seatbelt. The next second, Chi Yin stepped hard on the accelerator, and the car shot forward like a bullet.
Oh no, Qiao Ziman thought to herself. She’s definitely mad. What should I do to calm her down?
The entire ride home, her mind raced, trying to come up with a solution. By the time they arrived, she still hadn’t settled on an answer.
As Chi Yin made her way toward the bedroom, Qiao Ziman called out, stopping her in her tracks. Before Chi Yin could protest, Qiao Ziman tugged her over to the sofa and made her sit down.
“What are you doing?” Chi Yin asked, her tone still cold.
Instead of replying, Qiao Ziman took the initiative, straddling Chi Yin’s lap and wrapping her arms around her neck. Her voice softened as she teased, “Didn’t your teacher show you last time how to ‘punish’ someone properly?”
“So, this time, why don’t you punish me?” she added, leaning in and pressing her lips to Chi Yin’s.
“Don’t be mad, okay?” she murmured against her lips, her eyes sparkling with mischief and sincerity.
Qiao Ziman clumsily pried open Chi Yin’s teeth, eagerly seeking the soft tongue inside, teasing and tangling with it in a passionate exchange. Their kisses deepened, lingering, neither wanting to let go.
The dim, amber lighting in the room grew warm and sultry, casting a glow over Chi Yin’s flushed cheeks and slightly parted lips, which moved in rhythm with her gently heaving chest. The sight was utterly captivating, utterly irresistible.
Chi Yin’s gaze darkened, and the last threads of her restraint began to unravel. In one swift move, she flipped Qiao Ziman over, pinning her beneath her on the sofa.
Before Qiao Ziman could even gasp, soft, electric kisses rained down on her neck, sending a shiver through her body. She bit her lip, struggling to suppress the strange sounds threatening to escape her throat, but Chi Yin’s persistent kisses trailed lower, leaving her utterly breathless.
Suddenly, a familiar warmth spread through Qiao Ziman’s nose.
Oh no.
In a panic, she pushed Chi Yin away, her hands flying up to her nose as she bolted toward the bedroom. Halfway there, she stopped, turned back, grabbed the delivery box from the table, and clutched it tightly to her chest before locking herself in the bedroom.
Inside, she scrambled into the bathroom to deal with the sudden nosebleed. As she tried to stem the flow, the heavy sound of a door slamming shut echoed from Chi Yin’s room.
Qiao Ziman closed her eyes, utterly defeated. Embarrassing isn’t even the word. Worse still, she was pretty sure Chi Yin was even angrier now.
What do I do… she thought, leaning heavily against the sink. How do I make it right this time?
Qiao Ziman stepped out of the bathroom and went straight to her drawer, pulling out her trusty dating guide. Flipping to the second page, she read the third rule aloud: “Maintain boundaries when dating. Keep your distance from strangers. Don’t make Yin Yin angry, don’t let her down, and absolutely don’t make her cry.” She repeated it ten more times for good measure.
Even though they weren’t officially dating yet… and this was all a misunderstanding… she still had to make it right!
What if Yin Yin is in her room crying right now? The mere thought made her heart ache.
Her gaze shifted to the same-day delivery box she had been clutching earlier. Inside was the lingerie she had carefully picked out for Chi Yin earlier that day—something intimate and playful, chosen with great thought.
She gritted her teeth, her mind made up. Yesterday, Chi Yin wore something like this to cheer me up. So…
Rummaging through the box, she pulled out a lace-trimmed piece that was relatively modest compared to the others. After hesitating and second-guessing herself for a while, she reluctantly put it on.
Standing in front of the mirror, she tried to gather her courage before snapping a photo from what she hoped was a flattering angle. After much internal debate, she sent the photo to Chi Yin.
The moment she hit send, she dove under the covers, curling up like an ostrich burying its head in the sand. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment as she muttered to herself, So shy…
