On the open ground in front of the Enlightenment Tower.
Master Du’e placed the body of Monk Kongjian on the firewood and then lit the firewood with a torch.
Subsequently, Master Du’e sat on the ground, put his hands together in front of his chest, and recited the “Sutra of the Past Vows of Earth Store Bodhisattva” to pray for Monk Kongjian.
“Monk, go well all the way.”
Ye Qiu stood aside, watching Monk Kongjian who was wrapped in the raging fire, and bent down to bow.
The fire lasted for half an hour.
A surprising scene appeared.
The body of Monk Kongjian was actually intact.
Ye Qiu said in shock, “He truly lives up to being a highly accomplished monk.”
Master Du’e added some more firewood.
The fire burned for more than an hour, and the body of Monk Kongjian gradually turned into ashes.
Strangely enough, during the cremation of Monk Kongjian’s body, there was no smell of a charred human body, but instead a strange fragrance like sandalwood.
After the flames went out,
Master Du’e took out a clay pot from the first floor of the Enlightenment Tower and collected the ashes of Monk Kongjian.
Suddenly——
Master Du’e knelt down in front of the ashes of Monk Kongjian and shouted loudly: “Congratulations to the master for ascending to the blissful land.”
Ye Qiu noticed that at this moment, there was no sadness on Master Du’e’s face, but rather some excitement.
Strange, what is the master excited about?
Just then, Master Du’e said: “Benefactor Ye, come quickly, I will show you a miraculous thing.”
Ye Qiu walked to the side of Master Du’e.
Master Du’e gently lifts the ashes of Monk Kongjian, and instantly, a white round bead appeared in Ye Qiu’s sight.
This round bead was crystal clear, like crystal, shining with a Yingying light.
Ye Qiu asked puzzled ly: “What is this?”
”Benefactor Ye, have you ever heard of a relic?” Master Du’e asked.
”I have heard of it…” Ye Qiu said, and then his eyes widened: “Master, is this a relic?”
Master Du’e nodded with a smile: “That’s right, this is the relic.”
Ye Qiu was shocked.
Relic is a transliteration of Sanskrit. It usually refers to the remains of the Buddha, and is called the Buddha’s bone and the Buddha’s relic. It is said that it has only existed since Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism.
After Sakyamuni passed away, his disciples found many colorful and crystal-clear relics as hard as jade from his ashes and respected them as relics.
Later, these relics were distributed to famous monasteries all over the world as the treasures of the monasteries.
According to the Buddhist scriptures, the relic is obtained by a person through the practice of precepts, concentration, and wisdom, plus his own great vow power. It is very rare and precious.
From ancient times to the present, although many relics have appeared, only highly accomplished and meritorious monks will have them.
For example, Master Xuyun.
Master Xuyun became a monk at the age of eighteen and practiced meditation in Yongquan Temple for nine years. Starting from the age of twenty-seven, he traveled to famous Buddhist mountains all over the country for more than twenty years, visiting places such as Mount Emei and the three major monasteries in the Tibetan area, and even going abroad to pay homage to Buddhist relics.
As his reputation grew, Master Xuyun was valued by the court. He was bestowed with a copy of the “Dragon Collection”, as well as a purple robe, a jade seal, and the title of “Buddha’s Mercy and Dharma Master.”
This was a rare honor at that time, showing that Master Xuyun was highly respected and virtuous.
In 1959, on the 13th day of the ninth lunar month, the 120-year-old Master Xuyun passed away. After cremation, hundreds of colorful relics were obtained, causing a sensation for a while.
This is not an isolated case.
Like the Venerable Monk Mengcan on Wutai Mountain. After passing away at the age of 103, he left behind hundreds of relics.
There is also the Venerable Changjing, an old Dharma master. Before passing away, he knew that his end was approaching and refused to eat or drink. When the doctor wanted to give him an intravenous drip, the Venerable pulled out the needle by himself, closed his eyes and chanted the Buddha’s name, and fasted for nine days without water and finally passed away peacefully.
The relics left by the Venerable Changjing are round in texture, various in color and different in size. The small ones are like the prayer beads worn by monks, and the large ones are like the nails of adults.
Among them, the relic that caused a sensation worldwide came from Master Kuanneng.
After passing away at the age of 94, Master Kuanneng also left behind many relics. Among them, there is a relic about five centimeters high, which closely resembles a Guanyin Bodhisattva sitting on a lotus throne. The facial features and attire are naturally perfect. vivid and lifelike. Especially, there are prayer beads surrounding the head of the Guanyin Bodhisattva, which is amazing.
This relic is enshrined in the Thousand-Buddha Pagoda of Haining Temple on Huaguo Mountain. If everyone has the opportunity, they may be able to see it.
These are all real ones that appeared in modern history.
Ye Qiu didn’t expect that one day he could see the relics with his own eyes.
What made him feel the most incredible was that after Master Du’e pulled out the ashes, there were also quite a number of relics in various colors such as red, green, yellow, black, and white, and the quantity was quite large.
Master Du’e quickly ran into the Enlightenment Tower, took out a very large glass jar from it, and began to collect the relics left by Monk Kongjian.
“One, two, three…”
“One hundred!”
“Three hundred!”
“Five hundred!”
“Seven hundred… seven hundred and seventy-five, seven hundred and seventy-six, seven hundred and seventy-seven!”
A full seven hundred and seventy-seven relics!
Ye Qiu was shocked.
Master Du’e also said in shock: “In Buddhism, seven is a special existence. It does not represent a number, but represents perfection.”
“The master left seven hundred and seventy-seven relics, which represents great perfection.”
“Congratulations to the master!”
After saying that, Master Du’e kowtowed nine times to the glass jar containing the relics.
“Huh?”
Suddenly, Ye Qiu let out a cry of surprise and said, “Master, look quickly.”
Master Du’e turned his head and saw that Ye Qiu was pointing at the skull of Monk Kongjian.
After the body of Monk Kongjian was cremated, the skull was preserved intact.
Master Du’e held up the skull of Monk Kongjian with both hands. After a closer look, he found that there were actually stripes on the skull of Monk Kongjian, which resembled Sanskrit. In the middle position, there was also a very clear “” character.
“Master was merciful all his life. He preached the Dharma when he was young and meditated on Zen when he was old. He was a true generation of eminent monks.
After Master Du’e finished speaking, he carefully put this skull into the glass jar as well.
Subsequently, he used his hands to scoop up the ashes of Monk Kongjian one by one and put them into the earthenware pot. Then he came to the seventh floor of the Enlightenment Tower and scattered the ashes into the air one by one, letting them drift away with the wind.
I come from the void and return to the void.
Ye Qiu knew that Master Du’e was fulfilling the last words of Monk Kongjian.
Taking advantage of this time, Ye Qiu personally engraved a spiritual tablet for Monk Kongjian and placed it on the altar table on the first floor of the Enlightenment Tower.
After Master Du’e scattered the ashes and returned to the first floor of the Enlightenment Tower, seeing that Ye Qiu had already engraved the spiritual tablet, he said gratefully, “Thank you, Benefactor Ye.”
Ye Qiu said, “This is what I should do. Master doesn’t have to be polite.”
Master Du’e asked, “Long Wu’s body is still outside. How does Benefactor Ye plan to deal with it?”
Ye Qiu said, “I will arrange for someone to send Long Wu’s body back to the Forbidden City so that Long Qi and the others can take a good look at the tragic situation of Long Wu.”
Master Du’e said worriedly, “Benefactor Ye, if you do this, I’m afraid the Forbidden City will be furious.”
Ye Qiu smiled and said, “That’s exactly what I want.”
Master Du’e was shocked.
What did Ye Qiu want to do?
Was he trying to provoke the Forbidden City? Or declare war on the Forbidden City?
