Chapter 50: Return to the Ancient Epoch
As Fengyun Wuji caught sight of the Kunpeng’s transformation into a human guise, he sprinted with all his might. The tens of thousands of demon guards, tasked with protecting the teleportation portal, were taken aback and enraged to witness a human’s descent. They leaped into the air, charging towards Fengyun Wuji, only to be met with a fierce punch that unleashed a torrent of demonic energy.
This energy, immense and overwhelming, enveloped an expanse of several hundred meters, reducing the surroundings to an impenetrable shroud of darkness. The demons, halted in their tracks, could only watch as the black fog obscured everything from view.
As the fog began to clear, the demons stood agape, finding only minor injuries among their lower ranks and the mysterious human vanished without a trace.
Amidst their bewilderment, the sky shattered with the dive of the Golden-Winged Roc, a formidable guardian now obstructing the portal to the demon realm. The Roc’s fearsome reputation preceded it, not merely due to its dominion over the Abyssal Sea—a forbidden land within the demon realm—but also for its monthly hunts across the skies, a display of power rather than necessity, for the Abyssal Sea teemed with ancient creatures sufficient to sate its appetite.
The Golden-Winged Roc’s sheer size cast a shadow over vast territories with each emergence, and its appetite was legendary, requiring tens of thousands of demons to satisfy its hunger.
Despite such behavior that would spell doom for any other creature, the Roc’s immense power, honed over eons, commanded respect even from the demon emperors themselves, leaving it unchecked and unrivaled.
The guardian of the portal, a mid-to-high-ranking demon of fearsome stature, berated the surrounding demons for their ignorance in the presence of the Golden-Winged Roc. The demon’s bellow was met with collective gasps, as the realization of the Roc’s presence dawned upon them.
“Listen well, you whelps,” the Roc, now in the form of a dashing youth, declared with a casual arrogance. “I’ve dined well today and have no use for your paltry offerings. Line up, for I seek a despicable human, and for now, I’ll grant you mercy.”
Yet, among the known ferocity of the Roc, there were those who dared to challenge its authority. A lowly demon’s defiant cry sparked the Roc’s rage, igniting its true form and unleashing a powerful suction force that sent thousands of demons spiraling towards its fearsome beak.
Fengyun Wuji’s voice echoed through the chaos, his location elusive, “This Roc is no benevolent creature; its politeness masks a treacherous intent. It seeks to divide and conquer, to devour us with ease. Unite, and let us bring down this feathered beast.”
Enraged by the insult, the Roc’s ferocity knew no bounds. It unleashed an even greater force, intent on consuming all in its path. Yet, in its fury, it revealed its cunning, using its vast form to block the portal.
Fengyun Wuji, seizing the moment, taunted the Roc, provoking it to release its grip on the portal. In that instant, he emerged from his hiding place beneath the earth, launching himself into the portal without a backward glance.
Realizing the ruse, the Roc was too late to pursue. Its roar of fury echoed through the skies, but for some unknown reason, it dared not follow through the portal.
Fengyun Wuji, now sensing the familiar essence of the ancient world, allowed himself a moment of respite. As he inhaled deeply, he couldn’t help but marvel, “I have returned at last!”
The ancient world, however, was not as welcoming. A powerful force repelled the pure demonic energy within him. With a clenched jaw, Fengyun Wuji compressed the energy into his lower Dantian, releasing his sword essence sealed in the upper Dantian, accompanied by a resonant hum.
A gleam of light burst forth from his bosom, circling around him in a melodic lament—the Fifth Sword Gall, a companion of old. With a gentle touch, Fengyun Wuji soothed the vibrating sword, which coiled into a compact form, resting in the palm of his hand.
The distant shouts grew louder, and as Fengyun Wuji’s gaze pierced the towering mountains, he felt the earth beneath him stir. Before he could comprehend the sight, the mountain itself rose, defying gravity, and soared into the heavens.
