Chapter 32: A Fury That Could Split the Heavens
Fengyun Wuji sped towards the Blade Domain, a faint tang of blood wafting through the air as he neared, signaling his approach. Three thousand miles from his destination, he alighted, his senses alert. Surrounded by the embrace of mountains, a brook meandered forth, its waters not clear but a deep, ominous red, carrying the scent of bloodshed. As he traced the stream upstream, the sight that awaited him was one of increasing despair—a trail of bodies, and ancient trees snapped like matchsticks, victims of some ferocious storm.
“Monsters! Beasts! You feign kinship yet consort with tyranny. Have you no humanity?” The voice of a woman, melodious yet filled with utter desolation and rage, carried through the air. Her words, underscored by the tremolo of tears, struck a chord within Fengyun Wuji, propelling him forward with haste.
At a bend in the path, a scene of such brutality unfurled before him that it threatened to split his very gaze with its horror. A woman of striking beauty was pinned to the ground by four burly, swarthy men. Her garments were torn asunder, exposing her pale flesh, and her green dress was hiked up, revealing her vulnerability. A lecherous grin adorned the face of a youth before her, his trousers cast aside, his intentions vile and clear.
Among the onlookers, Fengyun Wuji recognized several faces, including the Blade Domain’s patrol he had encountered in a cavern, and the Great Free and Easy Wanderer, known for his righteousness. Yet, in the face of such depravation, the Wanderer turned away, indifferent.
As the youth prepared to defile the woman, Fengyun Wuji’s voice cut through the air like a blade, commanding, “Cease!”
All eyes turned to the source of the outburst. The youth sneered, “Ah, humans and their penchant for heroics. Let’s see how you intend to play the hero and rescue the damsel in distress.”
“Begone! Interference is not permitted here!” The Great Free and Easy Wanderer’s voice was urgent, though Fengyun Wuji, in his altered guise, was unrecognizable to him.
“How can you, who claim the mantle of virtue, stand by idly?” Fengyun Wuji’s gaze was icy as he approached the Wanderer.
“Alas… you do not understand… flee while you can!” The Wanderer’s face was etched with shame, yet he persisted in his plea for Fengyun Wuji to retreat.
“Who dares! The Blade Domain is conducting its affairs. Desist at once!” The patrol’s countenance darkened, and with a subtle gesture, the Blade Domain’s disciples drew their blades, training them on Fengyun Wuji.
“Pathetic wretch!” Fengyun Wuji wasted no breath on further words. With a swift motion, the sword gall in his palm transformed into a long blade that twirled into his grasp.
“Left Path!” A blade aura, unmatched in its might, was unleashed, slicing towards the youth. The twelve warriors of the Blade Domain stepped forward in unison, their collective blade auras converging towards Fengyun Wuji.
A thunderous crash echoed as Fengyun Wuji’s single strike shattered the onslaught, sending the warriors flying, his blade’s momentum undiminished as it continued towards the youth.
“Impossible!” The Great Free and Easy Wanderer’s exclamation was a mix of shock and desperation as he leaped into the path of the blade aura, his Fundamental Seal of Immovability at the ready. The collision sent ripples of energy coursing through the air, nearly shattering his seal.
“Flee, I implore you. Even I cannot afford to provoke such a force. This matter is of grave consequence. Should you intervene, you will be cursed for eternity!” A trace of blood trickled from the corner of the Wanderer’s mouth as he spoke, his voice barely a whisper.
“Blade Decision!” The youth’s displeasure was palpable as he barked an order at the Blade Domain patrol.
In a flash, Blade Decision reappeared, his blade aura overwhelming as it cleaved towards Fengyun Wuji’s chest. Caught off guard by the patrol’s sudden and vicious attack, Fengyun Wuji was sent flying with a pained cry, a gaping wound stretching from his left arm to his right abdomen.
Fengyun Wuji knelt, his chest heaving with the weight of his injuries, blood seeping through his fingers as his long hair veiled his face.
“Great Free and Easy Wanderer, you urged me to leave, but is it because this man is the Blade Domain’s heir? Hmph! Be it the heir or the master of the Blade Domain, should they engage in such vile acts, I would not hesitate to draw my blade against them.”
“Sigh… You came here, oblivious to the peril, seeing the corpses lining the path, victims of their own recklessness.” The Wanderer’s sigh was heavy with regret.
“Ha! You all keep secrets, so let me reveal the truth.” The youth rose, his gaze fixed on Fengyun Wuji with a cold, malevolent glare. “I am the second prince of the Demon Realm. For the sake of a mere woman, dare you provoke me? He… he, they all know my identity. The Blade Domain’s strongest are well aware of my presence here, yet they dare not interfere. You, a lowly human, dare to disrupt my pleasures? My four guards, slay him. I wish to taste his heart.”
Fengyun Wuji’s face contorted with disbelief and rage as he looked upon the Wanderer and the others, his fury threatening to erupt. “You condone a demon’s defilement of our kin?!!”
All around, heads turned away in shame. Then, the woman’s voice, lifeless and faint, reached their ears: “Flee, while you still can. I have accepted my fate.”
“Great Free and Easy Wanderer, Blade Decision, I command you to slay this man, or upon my return to the Demon Realm, I shall urge my father to marshal an army to wipe out your human race.” The handsome youth’s face was a mask of cruelty.
Four demonic energies soared into the sky, the four men with dark complexions growing taller, their arms transforming, revealing metallic scales beneath their skin.
These four had grown to over three meters in height, no longer resembling humans, their eyes now a deep purple. They roared and charged towards Fengyun Wuji, while the twelve warriors of the Blade Domain drew their blades, ready for battle.
The demon prince, grinning maliciously, grabbed the woman’s neck, tearing away her remaining clothes, leaving her exposed to the world. As he prepared to indulge in his vile act, a thunderous shout pierced his ears.
“Release her!…” Fengyun Wuji’s roar was filled with bloodshot eyes, but the four demons and the Blade Domain warriors were already upon him.
The woman suddenly lifted her head, her teeth clenched, her face a picture of determination: “Demon, even in death, I will not yield to you.” With those words, she bit down hard, blood gushing from her mouth as her head slumped to the side, her arms falling limp.
A demon inspected her, then reported back to the prince: “Your Highness, she has taken her own life by biting her tongue.”
The prince struck the woman’s face in anger, his expression darkening as he turned to the young swordsman who had dared to intervene, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
Boom!
Fengyun Wuji was struck by a barrage of fierce blade auras and punches, sending him flying through the air, blood spraying from his mouth. His lungs felt as if they had been crushed. In his dimming vision, he saw tears streaming from the corners of the woman’s eyes, her face etched with despair, pain, helplessness, defiance, and loathing. Her once lively eyes now held a lifeless gaze, still as death…
Ah! I am filled with such hatred! Why? Why? I need strength!
