Chapter 155: The Combined Attack Formation

Ming He moved alongside the team of ten, swiftly exiting through the city gate that swayed precariously in the midst of the raging storm. As they emerged, they were met with a wave of scorching heat, the air thick with swirling dust and the metallic tang of blood. Stretching endlessly before them were the alien races, drifting like specters across the battlefield.

These aliens, with their ghastly green faces, sharp fangs, towering frames, and dagger-like claws, were led by the Tian Yan Tribe, their vertical pupils gleaming ominously.

Under a sky so dark it seemed to swallow all light, the team of ten cast a brief, silent glance at Ming He. With a slight nod, they pressed forward, their forms cutting through the sea of alien blood like bolts of lightning, unperturbed by her presence.

Though they were a team of ten, not every member of the human race could always rely on the permanence of their group.

When comrades fell in battle and one survived, they became lone warriors, fighting in solitude.

Such individuals would be reassigned by the East City, but the sudden appearance of the golden fireworks had thrown the battlefield into chaos, forcing them to adapt and survive amidst the turmoil.

Thus, they did not refuse Ming He’s company or her joining their ranks.

Once they had left the crumbling walls of Tianwu East City, they were swiftly met with an alien assault.

The Tian Yan Tribe amassed in droves, advancing like a relentless tide, their heavy, mechanical steps encircling the humans. Their eyes were cold and bloodthirsty, their vertical pupils half-open, exuding an eerie, chilling aura—like venomous serpents lurking in the shadows, their tongues flicking as they fixed their gaze upon their prey.

Ming He halted, standing behind the team of ten. Her gaze swept across the blood-soaked dimness, where the righteous aura of the human race struggled to rise above the violent, oppressive atmosphere. All she could see was the dark gleam of heavy armor, reflecting a cold, murderous light.

The humans surrounded by the Tian Yan Tribe were not limited to this team alone.

This path led to the central pavilion, where golden fireworks had recently been launched as a desperate call for aid.

It was like a fleeting meteor, briefly illuminating the dark shroud that hung over the battlefield.

The four cities of the battlefield of the heavens could see this signal, and so too could the Tian Yan Tribe, lurking above the battlefield.

Thus, the appearance of this alien force was meant to hinder their progress.

It was clear that the battle at the central pavilion was hanging by a thread, its outcome critical.

Ming He paused, gathering her thoughts. Her grip on the Xuanyuan Sword tightened as she focused her energy, readying herself for the fight ahead.

Each member of the team of ten stood firm, their postures as straight and unyielding as pine trees. The weapon-wielders gripped their arms tightly, while the body cultivators clenched their fists. Their expressions were calm, their auras radiating a fierce heat that seemed to converge into a single point in the void, embodying the essence of seasoned warriors.

“Dear friends,” began the young woman at the forefront, her black hair tied high and her heavy armor gleaming. She turned slightly, her gaze deep and unwavering. “I am Ye Ke, captain of the third team from Tianwu East City. In this battle, we once again face life and death together.”

She introduced herself, though the other nine already knew her well. Yet, with Ming He present, it was necessary. Even without her, Ye Ke would have done the same, for she was leading them into a battle where life and death hung in the balance.

The other nine remained silent, their eyes downcast. They knew the nature of the battlefield of the heavens, and they knew their captain and comrades well.

They were accustomed to this life, their hearts burning with unyielding passion.

Ming He blinked, surprised.

The third team from Tianwu East City.

It turned out that the group she had casually followed was one of such renown.

“If we head west at full speed, we will reach the central pavilion,” Ye Ke continued. “The golden fireworks are a beacon of urgency; we must rush to their aid. But standing in our way is the endless horde of the Tian Yan Tribe.”

“We have no other path but this one.”

The young captain raised her head, her eyes blazing with determination. “As your captain, my order is clear: we kill!”

Her voice, though low against the howling wind, carried a fierce resolve that even the overwhelming alien forces could not quell. “We will cut down every alien that stands in our way. If there is no path, we will carve one through their ranks!”

“Do you wish to follow me?” Ye Ke’s gaze swept over the others.

“Understood.” The nine cultivators, each clad in heavy armor and bearing diverse inheritances from the five regions of the Tianwu Continent, exchanged glances filled with unwavering trust and loyalty.

Ming He remained silent, her heart stirred as she watched the faint curve of Ye Ke’s lips. She glanced once more at the battlefield, now shrouded in deepening gloom under the weight of the enemy forces, and in that moment, she understood the woman’s intent.

The golden fireworks blazed; the Four Cities of Tianwu’s foremost duty was to provide aid.

Aid meant dispatching cultivators to the scene.

There were two ways to reach the battlefield: one was to navigate through the surging alien hordes, relying on agility to evade the enemy; the other was to cut through all obstacles, leaving no foe standing.

Ye Ke chose the latter.

Ming He closed her eyes briefly.

This method was arduous and perilous, a gamble with life and death. As the captain of Tianwu East City’s third team, Ye Ke’s competence was beyond question—she surely knew the risks.

Yet, she chose this path regardless.

Because she understood the battlefield better than anyone.

The Four Cities of Tianwu were, in fact, the closest to the central pavilion. They had set out the moment the golden fireworks ignited, making them the first wave of reinforcements on the path from East City to the central pavilion.

By carving a bloody path, they would create a gap for those who followed, sparing them countless dangers while uniting the scattered cultivators into a formidable force.

This was the most effective method of rescue.

To make such a decisive choice and act swiftly—Ye Ke undoubtedly possessed the makings of a commander, a truly exceptional warrior and captain.

Yet, such a decision meant that those at the forefront bore the greatest risk.

Though the team of ten was formidable, against the overwhelming tide of alien forces, they were but ants in the face of a storm.

Ming He opened her eyes, catching a glimpse of the fierce battle intention burning in the eyes of her comrades. Her heart stirred once more, and she let out a soft chuckle.

Indeed, even she, a newcomer to the battlefield, could grasp Ye Ke’s purpose.

The other nine were seasoned veterans, having broken through to the Human King stage—none of them were ordinary.

They understood as well.

Yet, their eyes still shone with unwavering trust.

Is this the battlefield of the heavens?

Ming He exhaled deeply, feeling the weight in her chest lighten slightly, a spark of determination igniting in her gaze.

She gave a slight nod, signaling her agreement.

Ye Ke’s lips curved faintly as her silver spear danced, leaving a trail of afterimages in the air. With a twist of her wrist, she unleashed a fierce gale, forcing back the approaching Tian Yan Tribe cultivators.

Her eyes were dark, her silver spear gleaming like snow.

So, she was a spear cultivator!

“Follow my command; form the formation!” Ye Ke’s sharp voice cut through the cacophony of clashing weapons, carrying a commanding presence that resonated across the battlefield.

The air rippled with the force of the cultivators’ movements.

Ming He raised her gaze to see the other nine shift their positions in an instant—some stepping left, others leaping upward or retreating—their seemingly loose formation radiating a fierce aura, accompanied by a faint, resonating roar akin to a tiger’s growl.

Ye Ke stood at the forefront, the tiger’s head, her claws sharp and ready to strike.

This is the Battle Formation of the human race, a strategy that consolidates the scattered powers of practitioners into a single force, unleashing immense combat strength from a seemingly insignificant and quiet place.

It transcends skills or the Daoist path, relying solely on one word: trust.

Entrusting life and death is as straightforward as that.

“Friend, why aren’t you joining the formation?” Ye Ke asked, her brow slightly furrowed as she noticed Ming He standing still. She thought to herself that newcomers were too inexperienced compared to her long-time companions, who had shared life and death with her for years.

Ming He blinked at the approaching Tian Yan Tribe army and said, “I can’t.”

She observed the battle formation taking shape within the heart of the Tian Yan forces, realizing that it was missing one person—a position clearly intended for her.

But she had never learned how to form such a formation.

Ye Ke’s brows furrowed even deeper. “Every human on the battlefield of the heavens must master the Combined Attack Formation. You don’t know it?”

She felt as though she were hearing a ridiculous joke and even wondered if Ming He might be a traitor sent by the Alien Race Hunting Hall.

The first step for practitioners arriving on the battlefield of the heavens was to adapt to the constraints of heavy armor. During this period, the main city would send instructors to teach the Combined Attack Formation.

This formation was devised by the predecessors of the Imperial Palace and later refined by an esteemed figure from the central pavilion, who then taught it to the Four Cities of Tianwu. It wasn’t limited by the number of participants; it simply unified the scattered powers of practitioners. A hundred people could form it, and so could just two.

That was why they had tacitly allowed Ming He to follow them.

Now Ming He claimed she didn’t know it?

Ye Ke naturally found it hard to believe.

Throughout their journey, she had noticed Ming He’s sharp aura, a hidden edge like a blade sheathed but ready to strike.

She saw no sign of the restraint heavy armor should impose; Ming He couldn’t possibly be a newcomer to the battlefield of the heavens.

Ming He rubbed her nose and said, “I only arrived at the battlefield of the heavens today.”

“Today?” Ye Ke was stunned, about to insist that was impossible, but then something occurred to her. Her expression softened, and a faint sigh escaped her lips.

The Tian Yan Tribe army was drawing closer.

She lowered her gaze and said softly, “When the battle begins, stand in the center with us.”

No matter the circumstances, the human race would never abandon their comrades.

At this moment, Ming He stood on the battlefield of the heavens beside them, making her one of their allies.

They defended the formation seal of the central pavilion and the battlefield of the heavens, ultimately protecting the Tianwu Continent and the human race.

There was no reason to abandon a comrade now.

Even if it meant death.

“Change the formation!”

The woman’s clear voice rang out once more.

The spear tip quivered slightly, and a fierce wind surged. She stepped forward, and the practitioners around her let out a low cry. A giant tiger, hidden like a predator in the mountains, roared and charged down with unstoppable ferocity, its claws sharp enough to tear through anything.

The air grew thick with the stench of blood as the limbs of the Tian Yan Tribe scattered across the ground. Amid the blood rain, the black giant tiger advanced with the crushing force of a mountain, taking its first step.

The dense black fog enveloped the Tian Yan Tribe, and from the depths of the mist, more alien figures emerged.

“Swish!”

It sounded like the mist being pierced, or perhaps the struggle of a storm being torn apart.

The black shadows shot out like lasers as the Tian Yan Tribe stepped forward, extending their sharp claws. Their faces were twisted, showing only numbness and a thirst for blood. With a light step, they crossed several miles of void, gradually pressing down on the air.

Other Tian Yan members followed closely, using their strength to overwhelm.

The black giant tiger swayed unsteadily, a cold white hand gripping the Silver Spear, pointing it into the air, sending rippling waves that surged up layer upon layer. With a force that could move mountains, it targeted the wide-open eyes of the enemy, aiming to shatter them.

At that moment, the shadows disappeared.

It turned out to be the Tian Yan Tribe’s Supernatural Abilities.

The formation seals on the Tianwu Continent were intact, rendering the Tian Yan’s abilities ineffective.

But it was different on the battlefield of the heavens.

“Trap Formation!”

Ye Ke’s clear voice rang out again, though perhaps due to the battles, it carried a slight hoarseness, yet still reached all corners for miles.

The practitioners shifted again, transforming from tigers into wolves, forming a circular formation, trapping part of the Tian Yan Tribe within it while keeping the others outside.

This was the tactic of divide and conquer.

Ming He quietly praised the strategy, watching as the practitioners took up positions in groups, half of them eliminating the trapped aliens while the other half followed Ye Ke, piercing through the attacking claws with the spear’s tip.

They did not linger in battle or act greedily.

After one strike, they withdrew and turned, the formation intentionally or unintentionally shifting westward, avoiding the Tian Yan Tribe’s direct assault while occasionally striking from the side before retreating to fight again.

It was very much like a cunning wolf pack, slippery and elusive, leaving the aliens unable to strike back.

Other teams of ten saw this and gained confidence, their eyes ablaze with battle intention as they advanced closer to Ye Ke, subtly forming a combined assault.

The Combined Attack Formations could be layered upon one another.

Once the Tian Yan Tribe members within the circle turned into black mist, Ye Ke led her companions to repeat their previous tactics, eliminating dozens of alien groups before advancing as a giant tiger, leaving a trail of blood behind them.

After death, the Tian Yan would turn into mist without spilling blood.

The blood staining the ground belonged to the human race practitioners.

Ye Ke’s youthful and charming face remained bright, but she could no longer hide the fatigue that showed deep within her soul.

The blood seeped through her heavy armor, flowing into her clothes and soaking into her feet, leaving crimson footprints with every step.

Ming He followed closely behind the giant tiger, her sword sheathed, attentively watching Ye Ke fight the Tian Yan, her heavy armor weighing her down yet not hindering her movement.

In fact, it could even be seen as a source of strength.

In the shadows, two figures held their breath, silent, with deep-set eyes.

“Roar!”

The giant tiger let out a loud roar, but its form swayed precariously, showing signs of falling.

Ye Ke stood at the very front of the group, facing the surge of a million aliens. At this moment, she was covered in blood, her spiritual ocean nearly exhausted. The silver war spear was bound with torn cloth to prevent it from flying out of her grasp due to her fatigue.

The crimson footprints became blurred in the darkness, the thick scent of blood becoming almost tangible, engulfing their breaths and spiritual oceans.

As the next wave of aliens surged forward, Ye Ke swayed, the giant tiger lowered its body, ready to break the forest, its momentum about to wane.

At that moment!

Ming He’s gaze sharpened, her right wrist twisting as the Xuanyuan Sword suddenly drew.

The sword light blazed and the sword shadows gleamed, almost igniting the entire sky.
