Chapter 20: The Four Barriers to Cultivation
(Can the innate Spiritual Law truly perceive the past and future? Is that real?)
Yun Ye suddenly felt a chill.
If there were a way to see the past and future, wouldn’t his situation be terrible?
Although each of his lives had no connection to the last, his words and actions could still be linked together!
"What’s wrong?"
Qi Lian gave him a curious look, wondering why he was so shocked by the four major barriers.
(…Oh no, my reaction was too intense.)
Yun Ye quickly thought of a remedy; feeling anxious, he wrote, "(Can someone really perceive the past and future? Wouldn’t that mean no secret can be hidden?)"
"Don’t worry. That is the legendary innate Spiritual Law. It’s unlikely anyone in the entire Luo Dynasty possesses it, let alone us in this small place. Moreover, those with such talents are destined to shine and achieve greatness, far beyond our ordinary lives," Qi Lian explained knowingly.
Everyone has their privacy and secrets; it is hard to accept being known. She understood that.
But others existed in a completely different world, and worrying about this was meaningless, like not caring whether a few ants gathered to chat about love or argue.
The secrets of ordinary people are insignificant to such extraordinary beings, and there is simply no reason for them to cast their gaze that way.
"(What is innate Spiritual Law? Is it hard to come by?)"
Yun Ye continued to ask.
Qi Lian smiled slightly, and Yun Ye felt her meaning—he was truly foolishly cute.
"Spirit Sense Law, abbreviated as Spirit Law, belongs to the soul and allows the soul to innately comprehend and foresee the future—this kind of extraordinary ability has an incredibly small chance of occurring and usually does not manifest."
"This is a legendary prodigy found only in myths, just a possibility. No one knows if it exists in this era. Even the most talented genius in Baishi Town has only the most basic level of innate Spiritual Law…"
"What you need to understand now is yourself, not those myths."
"Physical Law—Body Law."
"Spirit Sense Law—Spirit Law."
"Spiritual Roots Law—Spiritual Law."
"Understanding Law—Dao Law."
"The path of cultivation blooms into four flowers. Each path is completely different yet reflects one another."
"Spiritual Roots Law is the easiest, Body Law comes next, Spirit Law follows, and Understanding Law is the last."
"In turn, to develop the corresponding innate powers, Spiritual Roots is the easiest, Body comes next, Spirit Law follows, and Understanding is the last."
"In this Academy, even those with strong Spiritual Roots are rare, let alone those with powerful Spirit Sense!"
As Qi Lian spoke, the whole world became clear to Yun Ye.
It turned out that each talent represented a different path.
Spiritual Law is simply the most basic, the most essential, but also the easiest to attain.
“At the beginning of cultivation, you need to understand your own talents; this is how you can achieve great results with less effort.”
“(How can I know my talents?)”
“Spiritual tools made from Spiritual Law can reflect your Physical and Spiritual Roots. Usually, when you enter the Academy, you are selected based on these two major talents, and you will at least have one.”
“As for Understanding and Spirit Sense, they require stricter testing conditions and cannot be widely promoted. To know, you can only rely on daily performance, such as learning speed and control over fine movements; these can all reflect your abilities, even if not precisely, it will be enough.”
Yun Ye understood.
Yang Shu had a C-level talent in physique!
Physique talent represents the speed of awakening Spiritual Roots. Having an advantage there makes up for a weaker Spiritual Root, which is why Yang Shu had a D-level Spiritual Root yet still managed to enroll.
As long as he awakened his Spiritual Roots, he would gain some fighting power, which was much better than having none.
But unfortunately, due to resource limitations, even with a C-level physique, Yang Shu had not awakened his Spiritual Roots.
Therefore, he had never experienced the difference of having weak Spiritual Roots after awakening.
This meant he had no future…
Would the so-called Physical Law change this situation?
“Before teaching the awakening technique, I will test your Physical and Spiritual Root talents. This test will be clearer than the one at enrollment, and you will be able to determine your path. Do you have any questions?”
A silver seal appeared in Qi Lian’s hand.
“(What are the four paths, and how do I walk them?)”
Yun Ye asked.
“I will tell you after testing your talents,” Qi Lian replied.
This knowledge was available in books, and most other teachers would likely just tell him to read.
But Qi Lian was different; she always answered questions, as it was her way to nurture her heart and spirit.
So, the testing began.
She quickly wiped the paper and handed over the results.
Yun Ye took it and was surprised to see a recommendation note.
“Spiritual Root Talent: Ordinary, Fire Attribute, 10% completeness. You can attempt explosive-type Fire Spiritual Law.”
“Physical Talent: Extremely poor, grows very slowly, very low spirit light, unable to practice and adapt to Physical Law.”
Although Yun Ye did not understand the distinctions between these indicators, it seemed he was more suited for the Spiritual Law path.
In terms of physique, he had made no enhancements and was utterly unfit.
“Some extreme talents only possess aptitude in Spiritual Law, which is not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes having a strong physique allows for smooth fighting, but…”
Qi Lian shook her head and did not continue, instead directly explaining the four major barriers and their corresponding paths.
“Physical Law is a method to strengthen the body with spirit energy, using the body’s speed and strength to defeat enemies. The characteristic is that it requires a large amount of resources to progress.”
“Spiritual Law uses spirit energy to stimulate Spiritual Roots and unleash the power of the attributes; in its depths, it can even burn mountains and boil seas.”
“Spirit Law involves mastery of divine awareness, understanding the mysteries of the universe. From initially perceiving subtle signs and reading people’s hearts to controlling thousands of people as puppets with a single thought or seeing the past and future, all are possible.”
“As for the last Dao Law… I know very little. It is a path that requires great will and enlightenment. It is said that if one comprehends it to the limit, they can achieve immortality and rewrite the laws of heaven and earth. This truly goes beyond common sense; no one in Baishi Town has ever stepped onto this path.”
“If the other three paths have clear roads, the fourth path can only be described as Dao Law natural; there are no written guidelines on how to walk this path, nor is there any foundational method for body refinement, attribute Spiritual Law, or even Spirit Sense Law available.”
Qi Lian expressed her regret when discussing the fourth path because she sought to discover this very path.
But without a doubt, even today, at the age of one hundred seventy-one, she had yet to grasp a hint of it.
This path, even for her exceptional talent, was inaccessible. If it weren’t for the treasure of the Ji family lying there, she might even doubt the existence of Dao Law…
“Become… immortal?”
Yun Ye’s eyes lit up.
He had read many books, and whenever there was a story about practitioners, it always mentioned “immortals”!
In this world, immortals represented the ultimate goal, the final stage of cultivation!
Every practitioner wished to become part of that myth—
True Immortals!
It was said that immortals could live forever.
It was said that immortals could change the rules of heaven and earth.
It was said that immortals were the representatives of the heavenly path.
It was said that as long as one became an immortal, they could sweep the world aside!
Immortals never speak of defeat; they are the strongest beings capable of enduring life, belonging to a completely different dimension from other practitioners!
The Dao Law path even dared to claim it could lead to true immortality, which was clearly different from the other three paths!
“Indeed, true immortality. Although the Luo Dynasty has existed for twelve hundred years and has not produced a true immortal, the idea that Dao Law contains the secrets to becoming an immortal is widespread. In various myths and legends, true immortals are typically depicted as having achieved enlightenment, causing the world to transform and the order of the universe to change.”
Qi Lian said a lot, but this was all hearsay; in essence, it held little meaning.
However, Yun Ye still felt elated because even if it was mere rumor, it was something he couldn’t find in any of his books. Perhaps immortals really do exist!
