Chapter 219
by post_apiChapter 219: Long Time No See, Lin Lin
Lin Lin was placed in a bedroom that was quite far away.
After Lenidien took Lin Lin to the door, he remained silent and serious and turned to leave.
Instead, Lin Lin was a bit stunned, and she reached out to the angel.
The angel’s ability to observe was always sharp; as Lin Lin reached out, Lenidien’s gaze naturally fell on her.
It had nothing to do with warmth; the Battle Angel’s gaze was cold and indifferent, which was a natural trait of this kind of angel.
Lin Lin’s outstretched hand froze there, and she realized that Lenidien might truly be "protecting her," as he said.
Not supervision.
"What should I do?" Lin Lin asked, a bit confused, "What does the divine being want me to do?"
Battle Angel slightly lowered his head, looking at Lin Lin as she tilted her face to see him. The evening sunlight fell gently on her face, and tiny golden particles floating in the air followed the hem of her dress.
Angels do not have ranks; all angels are equal.
But Lenidien also understood that, compared to the angels who listen to humans, Battle Angels are clumsier and cannot grasp the meanings of the divine as quickly as the listening angels.
Perhaps because they were created as consumables, they do not need such delicate thoughts.
"I’m sorry," Lenidien said, "I don’t know either."
Lin Lin blinked her eyes.
Can I go now? Lin Lin really wanted to ask this question, but maybe this was not the right time.
Lin Lin nodded and said goodbye to the other.
Lin Lin watched the angel leave, and Lenidien’s figure completely disappeared around the corner of the corridor.
Lin Lin did not enter the room; she looked around. It was very quiet, and through the windows of the hallway, she could see the priests walking outside.
They looked very busy, and Lin Lin thought again about the temple accountants who worked late at night.
The temple really had to be responsible for the development of the city and even the whole continent. It was frightening, truly frightening. Compared to that, the work at Demon King Castle seemed like just a village, where the officials had to manage themselves.
As if to confirm Lenidien’s words, even when some priests looked up and saw Lin Lin’s head peeking from the window, they calmly turned their gaze to another direction and did not pay much attention to her.
Confirming this information, Lin Lin immediately walked back the way she came. She softened her footsteps, but they were still hurried.
The temple was a very organized building, much easier to remember than the strange winding paths of Demon King Castle.
Lin Lin held onto the railing and quickly walked down the stairs.
After Lin Lin descended the last step, it was just when evening ended, and the sunlight outside faded.
Lin Lin took a few steps forward and then stopped.
She saw a young man bowing his head and wiping the blood off his long sword with a handkerchief.
Lin Lin clenched her fist for no reason; she felt that Norman would be waiting for her here, and now she really saw a person standing here, the Paladin Lord, and she didn’t know what to say.
The young man looked up, his bright blue eyes gazing at her. Norman’s eyes had always been beautiful, a clear color that felt comforting.
He was a noble young man raised by a big family to be kind and caring towards ladies, and now Lin Lin had suddenly appeared in front of him.
Norman paused for a few seconds, then smiled at Lin Lin in her still silence.
"Long time no see, Lin Lin."
–
From Norman, Lin Lin learned that most people in the temple knew her as "the Holy Maiden chosen by the gods but abandoned by them."
"Ah… that really sounds like an ungrateful character," Lin Lin couldn’t help but remark.
The young man raised an eyebrow and did not deny Lin Lin’s statement.
"What about this time?" the Knight Commander poured red tea into Lin Lin’s cup, "I don’t have any way to bring you from the angel’s hands to the Demon King Castle."
"Hehe," Lin Lin showed a dead fish look, "I can’t be that unlucky every time, I guess."
Lin Lin told Norman about her legendary experience of traveling back to the past.
The Holy Knight Commander did not show any surprise; he was as calm as if Lin Lin had just gone for a stroll by the fountain at the sanctuary’s entrance.
This experience was too terrible! Lin Lin wanted Norman to bring Sharon over so she could tell the story to Sharon again!
It’s still fun to tell stories to the little girl.
"Why are you not surprised at all!" Lin Lin finally couldn’t hold back.
"To be honest," Norman replied, "once you made a deal with the demon race as the Holy Maiden, I didn’t think anything ordinary would happen to you."
When Lin Lin made a pouting face, the Holy Knight Commander seemed to relax a little. He sat across the table.
"At least from your expression, it seems a god brought you back to the right time," Norman said.
Lin Lin nodded.
Norman didn’t say anything more. Lin Lin felt he actually wanted to say that the sanctuary was better than the Demon King Castle, but he was too shy to say it.
Lin Lin confirmed once again that the light-type people indeed had a higher moral standard; they even felt shy about throwing dirt on their old rival.
If it were Safir or Felix, they would have started talking nonsense long ago, and those guys were very good at mixing truth and lies, leaving people stunned.
Lin Lin said, "I still want to go back to the Demon King Castle."
The young man sitting across from her clasped his left hand around his right wrist. He seemed unaware of this small gesture, but Lin Lin noticed it.
Norman’s hands were big, and his skin was pale. He pressed on the joint of his wrist and rubbed it, leaving a faint red mark on his smooth skin.
Following the red mark, Lin Lin saw a small strip of red on his wrist, hidden in the cuff. It was not just a bruise but a real wound.
"Are you hurt?" Lin Lin raised her voice.
In her mind, Norman was so reliable that even though she saw blood on his armor and sword, she never thought he might be injured.
The Knight Commander’s first reaction was to cover up; he seemed embarrassed to let Lin Lin know he was hurt, and he immediately pressed down his cuff.
"Healing spell," Lin Lin didn’t call for her magic wand; she spoke these three words, and a white light naturally appeared in her palm.
"You should turn your cuff up," Lin Lin said.
The Holy Knight Commander looked at Lin Lin with his deep blue eyes; he saw a command in her expression and had to pull up his cuff to reveal the wound.
It was a new wound that had not fully healed yet.
Lin Lin’s palm touched the tender flesh that had just grown.
The Knight Commander let out a small grunt, and then he made no further sounds.
Lin Lin couldn’t help but look up at Norman, who smiled brightly at her.
Compared to other light-type mages, Lin Lin’s healing spell caused more pain, but it was also more effective; some people joked that Lin Lin’s healing spell was like spicy pepper that had been enhanced.
Moreover, Lin Lin realized that she and Norman’s "match" was multi-faceted, not only in terms of magical energy waves, but also at that moment, the healing spell worked better on him than on others, which meant the pain would be more intense.
Norman was very good at handling pain. Lin Lin confirmed.
"Alright," Lin Lin pulled back her hand.
Her palm felt hotter from the light power and the warmth of the man’s forearm.
He really had a low body fat percentage; Lin Lin couldn’t resist pinching Norman’s forearm and tugging at his skin.
The Holy Knight Commander widened his eyes but did not dare to refuse a "lady’s" actions, only looking at her in confusion.
"Your bones are really wide, and there is not much meat." Lin Lin’s expression was serious as she tugged at the soft part of her arm, easily shaping it into a smooth curve that stood in sharp contrast to the tightness of Norman’s skin when she pinched him. "I remember you have a big appetite, right?"
Norman’s attention was drawn to the soft curve on her arm.
Then he quickly looked away and focused on Lin Lin’s face.
He thought of something else, "Have you been busy lately?"
Huh? Lin Lin tilted her head.
"The complete opposite of busy," Lin Lin said with her hands open. "I don’t know what I should do."
"If it’s not too much trouble," Norman said, "you could help out with some school matters."
–
Though there was no reason, Lin Lin felt that Lenidien might not like Norman very much.
Even though Norman explained to the angel why they were taking Lin Lin away, the angel still looked unhappy. However, he did not stop them, and Lin Lin left the sanctuary without any trouble.
Ever since the last time they took the Red Dragon from the school, Lin Lin felt a bit guilty. Sure enough, when she saw the mermaid Vivian again, the teacher, who had a lovely lazy charm, was hiding his lips behind a folding fan, "Oh dear, the bad guy who took my precious student is back."
No, you don’t really have any teacher-student feelings for that Red Dragon, do you? Lin Lin bet that the Red Dragon didn’t even know when it became this mermaid’s "precious student."
Maybe at the moment it disappeared, it became precious.
The mermaid carefully looked at Lin Lin.
Lin Lin just remembered that Vivian hadn’t seen her as an adult very often; he mostly knew her as a teenager.
Vivian slowly blinked, his misty purple eyes turning towards Norman, and said without context, "She would be quite suitable as the Holy Maiden."
He didn’t really need to say that to Norman, especially with Lin Lin present.
But Lin Lin didn’t notice who the remark was aimed at; she just felt that Vivian was teasing her again.
"No," Lin Lin said, "I can’t accept that."
Lin Lin spoke with such certainty that Vivian narrowed his eyes. His eyes always sparkled with laughter as his cheerful gaze fell upon Norman.
The Holy Knight Commander chuckled softly at him and then gently shook his head.
Vivian’s folding fan slowly closed. He always seemed a bit limp, unable to sit straight or stand tall.
The mermaid showed a puzzled expression.
