Chapter 1854
by 林方方Chapter 1854 Nyx Behind the Door
Lina was about to draw her sword to help when she saw Athena and Artemis’s attitudes suddenly undergo a dramatic change, causing her to look at Lin Qiye in confusion.
“It’s fine.” Seeing the misunderstanding resolved, Lin Qiye immediately sheathed the Kusanagi Sword and looked around as if searching for something.
“Where is Mother?”
Athena and Artemis exchanged glances, both remaining silent.
Sensing something was wrong, Lin Qiye frowned slightly, “She’s not here? Where is she?”
After a moment, Artemis extended her hand, pointing to the apex of the light cone, to that broken Gate of Truth standing in the void.
Lin Qiye followed her finger and was slightly taken aback, “The Gate of Truth? What does that mean?”
“Lady Nyx is behind that door.”
The hunting goddess Artemis approached Lin Qiye, her gaze fixed on the ruins of the Gate of Truth, her eyes filled with reminiscence,
“Years ago, Lady Nyx was ambushed by Zeus and forced to come to Antarctica to recover. Later, we accidentally entered this time labyrinth. At first, we didn’t know what this maze was, and we got separated within it.
Later, Lady Nyx discovered the secret of the labyrinth, followed the direction of the ‘future’ to this place, and found me and Athena among the many time fragments. Just as we were preparing to leave and return to Olympus, Lady Nyx saw that door.”
Artemis walked across the black and white world, passing through numerous time fragments toward the Gate of Truth standing in the void. Lin Qiye and Lina followed closely behind.
Upon getting closer, Lin Qiye realized that the ruins of the Gate of Truth they had seen earlier in the time fragments was only half of it.
The massive broken doorway was like a mirror. The front side of the mirror extended into endless time fragments, where No. 22 and Vishnu were currently located; while the safe passage where Lin Qiye and the others stood led to the back of the mirror.
Faint gray mist rolled around the gate, like a layer of flowing gauze. The gate was like ruins lost for countless ages, silently buried in deathly stillness.
Previously, what An Qingyu had summoned were merely shadows of the Gate of Truth. This was the first time Lin Qiye truly witnessed the actual Gate of Truth… albeit in a broken state.
“Then what happened?” Lin Qiye asked.
“This door seems to have the ability to reflect the past… Lady Nyx just looked at this door once and stopped in her tracks. According to her, she heard the voice of her past self coming from behind the door.”
“The voice of her past self? What did it say?”
“She said this door possesses the power of equivalent exchange.” Artemis paused for a moment before continuing, “We don’t know the specific details, but after Lady Nyx heard it, she wanted to make a deal with this door.”
Hearing this, Lin Qiye’s heart sank.
Make a deal with the Gate of Truth?
Not long ago, Lin Qiye had just witnessed firsthand how exploitative this thing could be. Even with equivalent exchange, it had a hundred ways to exploit those who traded with it. It was an unscrupulous black market dealer—even An Qingyu had nearly fallen victim to it.
“What deal did she make?”
Artemis hesitated before speaking: “She wanted to resurrect her children.”
Lin Qiye stood frozen.
In his mind suddenly appeared the haggard, blank face he had seen when he first opened Ward No. 1.
“I’ve finally found you… my child!”
“…”
“Hypnos! My child, so you’re here too!”
“…”
“Hypnos, don’t worry, your brother will be back soon, he’s just playing around for a while…”
“…”
Nyx was the first patient to recover from the hospital. Lin Qiye had indeed cured her illness, but the regret and pain in her heart still remained… and the appearance of the Gate of Truth undoubtedly gave her an opportunity to make amends.
Even if she destroyed all of Olympus, her children couldn’t return, but the Gate of Truth before her could make it happen.
Lin Qiye could even imagine how determined and resolute Nyx must have looked when standing here, gazing at the Gate of Truth. That was the greatest sacrifice a mother could make for her children.
“Mother…” Lin Qiye murmured.
“After Lady Nyx made this request, the mist inside the door suddenly began to churn violently, and then the door opened slightly. Lady Nyx turned to give us a few instructions and then walked straight through the door.”
“Walked through the door?”
What was behind the Gate of Truth? Lin Qiye wasn’t sure.
But the request Nyx had made, even if the Gate of Truth wanted to fulfill it, would require a terrifyingly high price… How many children did Nyx have? More than a dozen or twenty, and all of them were deities. To resurrect them all? Even if Nyx sacrificed herself entirely, it wouldn’t be enough!
Moreover, a long time had passed since Nyx entered the Gate of Truth, yet Lin Qiye hadn’t heard any news about her offspring being resurrected in the mist. This suggested that she had probably been deceived by the Gate of Truth, just like An Qingyu.
“How long has she been in there?”
“Almost four years.”
“In these four years, haven’t you tried to bring her back?”
“We tried,” Athena said gravely. “But no matter how we tried, we couldn’t move this door at all, let alone open it…”
Lin Qiye stared at the ruins of the gate before him, his brows furrowed and his fists unconsciously clenched.
He took a deep breath and slowly extended his hand toward the tightly closed gate.
“What are you trying to do?” Lina asked, puzzled.
“I want to try if I can open it.”
Seeing Lin Qiye’s action, Athena frowned,
“It’s useless. Not even a major deity, or even a supreme being, could force this door open with brute strength. Even if you are Lady Nyx’s chosen successor, it’s impossible.”
Over these four years, they had tried countless times to open this door, using every method possible. That’s why they knew how difficult it was to open this door.
As the goddess of war, Athena’s combat power was among the highest of all major deities, so naturally she was proud and arrogant. Having repeatedly heard Nyx speak of her godson’s potential, she was somewhat dismissive, believing that since they were all major deities, Lin Qiye couldn’t be that special.
As Lin Qiye’s palm pressed against the surface of the Gate of Truth, a strange chill surged through him. The pure white wings on his back slowly spread open, and his golden domain rapidly extended in all directions!
[Mortal Divine Domain]!
Lin Qiye knew very well that as a major deity, opening the door with brute force was almost impossible… but the more impossible it seemed, the better Lin Qiye’s chances became.
Miracles were Lin Qiye’s reliance for opening the door!
As Lin Qiye’s hand pressed harder, veins bulged beneath his skin, terrifying divine power swept through the black and white world, golden furnaces burned in his eyes, and his entire body’s power was pushed to the extreme!
