    Chapter 247: The Imposter

“Sigh… I understand what you’re saying, but the higher-ups had already announced the return of Shrimp Tail Island in October… Ah, this is just…”

“Just keep it vague. Control the media flow and people will soon move on to new headlines. I’ll treat you to drinks later. What’s trending now?”

“A famous idol is rumored to be dating a gas stove, suspected of a secret romance.”

The air fell silent for several seconds.

“Do me this favor. As long as we reclaim Shrimp Tail Island eventually, no one will care how long it was delayed—it doesn’t really affect them anyway. I’ll owe you one for future needs.”

This bastard was manipulating the Uncrowned King while pretending to be helpless.

“I know, but an organization that’s lain dormant for a century isn’t so easy to destroy. Misha’s health should be recovered by now, right?”

“Should be fully healed in a month. Why?”

“Last time there was a Supreme Heaven, before that a Night Demon. Easter definitely has more than just those two methods to target you. You can’t protect her forever—are you going to tag along on her dates and baby-making too?”

    “…She’s only thirteen.”

“I’m not saying she needs to become a cop, but at least basic combat awareness should be cultivated. If she grows accustomed to you handling everything, and one day you miscalculate—if we all miscalculate—and she’s left alone… Lose and it’s hell, win and it’s regret. I know she’s thirteen, but her power isn’t something a thirteen-year-old should wield.”

“We’ll consider it after Misha fully recovers.”

“She’s not weaker than you, you doting father. Might as well check online—the ‘Silent One’ fanbase has over two million fake accounts now.”

    “Silent One?” Okulet frowned.

Realizing his slip, Officer Chen immediately hung up.

    Okulet searched online.

    Official Level 5? Ranked sixth?

Someone had speculated about the black-clad Silent One’s identity online. Though the figure had a shady past, this “redeemed hero who never truly committed evil” had gained unusual popularity.

Had the higher-ups forcibly registered Misha as an official Level 5 to flex authority? That sounded like their style.

Okulet even found a livestream where someone was gaming as the Silent One.

Some supernatural police did occasionally stream under aliases for leisure—as long as it didn’t interfere with missions, the higher-ups turned a blind eye. It supposedly helped bridge ordinary people and ability-users.

There were pros and cons. Fame meant your abilities became public knowledge, but that wasn’t necessarily bad. For instance, everyone knew the Little Demon King could erase matter, yet he could simply change combat gear to catch opponents off-guard.

Streams were usually brief—both because of time constraints and to avoid getting ambushed by someone tracking their location.

Only a Level 5 would have the audacity to leisurely stream games.

Few would dare impersonate a Level 5 either. Okulet suspected this might be an Easter trap.

As long as the streamer didn’t tarnish the title, authorities might pretend not to notice.

    Ultra Father entered the livestream.

“Sometimes… I do go crime-fighting, but not just in Fanzui City. My patrol range is pretty flexible… A hundred kilometers? It takes about three or four minutes.”

This guy boasted harder than Old Chen.

The voice sounded young and male, revealing nothing—possibly voice-modulated. When teammates trolled, he didn’t retaliate, frustrating viewers but maintaining his persona.

Okulet didn’t bother debunking the act. If this impostor could draw fire away from Misha, all the better—though besides that preemptive-attack girl, Easter likely had no other fools to spare.

But seeing fangirl comments still made Okulet involuntarily type a “??”.

Coincidentally, the streamer messed up a flash-Q minion kill, then awkwardly noticed the question mark.

“Why the ‘??’? Did it work or not? This… Ultra Father viewer, why that name? No sarcasm, genuine talk—people with such IDs usually aren’t very old…”

    Okulet typed: “I’m your dad.”

    Then got banned.

Hopefully this impostor would survive his charade unscathed. Misha had taken down gangs back in her Night Hawk days.

    More pressing matters awaited.

Okulet elegantly wrote his name in his daughter’s homework book.

“Misha, watch closely. This is how you write Dad’s name. Read it.”

    “Okulet,” said Mi Xiaoliu.

“Good. If strangers ask your father’s name and you don’t know, they’ll laugh at you. Now this is Mom’s name—”

Mi Xiaoliu ignored him, running to hug Heli’s arm instead.

    “…”

Okulet set down the book, speechless.

Even when trying to help his wife, he was powerless.

The return voyage was faster—no need for latitude / longitude calculations or depth measurements to find landing points.

Sadly, someone no longer had time for roleplaying games.

Losing Shrimp Tail Island cost the Chairwoman her electoral advantage, and the Black Element cure remained un-mass-producible…

How about renovating Fanzui City’s surveillance cameras? No—that might backfire, as some locals actively opposed surveillance.

When Heli’s group returned, Ji Yueqiu nearly wept with relief. Even the aloof young miss who’d scratched her pre-departure seemed adorable now, worthy of headpats.

She’d been hiding in Mi Xiaoliu’s room for days, terrified the fake blind man would return for revenge—surviving on snacks Yiwen bought for Mi Xiaoliu after finishing the groceries.

Had Heli delayed further, she’d have had to fight Circle (Quanquan) for food.

The two fugitives had vanished since Ji Yueqiu reported them, as if erased from existence.

Perhaps they’d left Fanzui City entirely. Escaped convicts rarely made high-profile moves or lingered locally.

After hearing Ji Yueqiu’s complaints, Heli fell into thought.

However pathetic that disabled duo appeared, nobody would believe they’d actually beg door-to-door. Did they want something—or someone—in this household?

She booted up her computer and pulled up Fanzui City’s legendary-grade surveillance footage.

Even for a student apartment’s cameras, she’d needed hidden pinhole lenses to evade the “Tian Xing Dao” saboteurs—and several had still been destroyed.

Her first-floor corner room appeared on screen, showing a decently dressed blind man with obviously dyed hair.

Since when could beggars afford dye jobs and salon styling? His hair even had gel-defined spikes.

The man passed several doors without knocking, heading straight for hers—clearly targeted.

Heli frowned, seeing Ji Yueqiu’s bag-switching maneuver. She hadn’t checked that homework yet.

Later footage showed Ji Yueqiu collapsing in terror upon opening the bag. Simultaneously, the blind man reached the street where Heli’s camera caught a fleeting glimpse of someone assisting him—a man in a summer-defying knit mask and baseball cap.

Helping the blind cross streets? Normal, if not for the attire.

She paused and enhanced the image with AI.

The sideburns suggested male. A subtle lean hinted at whispering to the blind man—likely acquaintances.

    Nothing more could be deduced.

After sending the footage to Okulet for identification, Heli turned to Mi Xiaoliu.

The girl sat cross-legged before the TV, mesmerized by bouncing screen saver letters, her head tilting in sync. She seemed pleased whenever letters hit corners.

The Black Element crisis was resolved, but another remained.

    “Xiao Mi, come here.”

Mi Xiaoliu obeyed, carefully stepping on alternate floor tiles until reaching Heli.

“Take out the second machine I had you store earlier… Is something bothering you?”

    Her gaze felt off.

    “Medicine,” Mi Xiaoliu reached out.

    “You already had today’s dose.”

Besides, she hated the taste and never asked voluntarily.

    “Want more.” Still reaching.

“Lying?” Heli raised a flicking finger.

Mi Xiaoliu retreated, then offered her forehead for punishment.

    “…”

But that Star only contained enough for Xiao Mi’s treatment alone.
